Grand Junction, Colorado, United States

We have a 1988 Suzuki Samurai freshly restored and modified up for auction. We started with a clean rust free Colorado truck, then stripped the body and frame down. Starting with the chassis it was modified to accept a fuel injected GM 4.3 Votec engine and 200R4 transmission. The engine was pulled from a low mileage (under 60,000) 2002 Chevy Blazer. We cleaned and inspected the engine before replacing the camshaft to a mild upgrade from Comp Cams. We replaced the water pump and thermostat and replaced the pulleys with polished aluminum ones. The headers are custom built to fit the small chassis and clear the steering linkage. We built a custom cold air intake that pulls from the vents on the side of the hood, it is baffled to keep out hot engine bay air. The radiator is an aluminium unit from Griffin Radiators and runs an electric fan that runs off a thermostat. The transmission is a GM 200R4 that was completely rebuilt including a new torque converter. We used the factory Samurai transfer case after having it cleaned and inspected. The axles were reconditioned with all new bearings, seals, brakes and hardware. We lifted the truck using custom Alcan leaf springs and Rocky Road Outfitter heavy duty shackles. Bringing the total lift over 9 inches. The exhaust is custom built with bungs for O2 sensors and uses a high quality muffler to keep things quiet. We replaced the fuel tank with an extra capacity heavy duty unit from Low Range Off Road. It includes a high volume fuel injection pump and heavy skid plate for protection. We are running BFG Mud Terrain A/T 33/10.5R15 with Mickey Thompson Wheels. The Exterior of this Samurai has been completely restored as well with new white paint inside and out. The floor of the body was bed lined top and bottom for extra protection. The front bumper was replaced with a Warn winch bumper, including a Warn M8000 winch. The rear bumper is a custom unit from Rocky Road Outfitters ready for a spare tire and High Lift jack. The Top is a new from best top. The seats are custom order from Corbeau Seats and ready for your choice of restraints. Shifting is done through a Lokar shifter with led indicator. The transfer case shifter is original but modified and relocated in the body. All gauges are original clean and work accurately. The glass has all been replaced including the windshield and door glass. The door and quarter panel trim is custom from Low Range Off Road as well as window cranks and hardware. A new Kenwood Stereo and Speakers were installed that is blue tooth, I pod and satellite ready. Overall this is one of the cleanest updated Suzuki Samurai's you'll find.  This is a vehicle you can jump in, start right up and enjoy driving without worries. Its like driving a new vehicle. Pentagram aims to cut through the noise of EV sound design

Sat, Jun 5 2021

What does an electric vehicle sound like when it goes from 0 to 60, when it signals a turn, when it’s powered down for the night? EV motors have fewer parts and are therefore incredibly silent, which presents safety concerns for drivers who recognize speed by sound and pedestrians who canÂ’t hear an approaching vehicle.  In 2019, regulators in Europe and the U.S. began requiring EVs to have warning sounds, but they left it up to the car manufacturers to choose those sounds. Many have taken the new legislation as an opportunity to not only create a branded sound, but also to stir up some marketing hype by enlisting famous musicians to compose the noise of an electric engine. Hans Zimmer created the Blade Runner-esque sound concept for BMWÂ’s i4 electric sedan, and, strangely, Linkin Park is creating EV sounds for BMW.  Sound designer Yuri Suzuki, a partner at design consultancy firm Pentagram, recently conducted a research project into the crucial role electric car sound has on a userÂ’s safety, enjoyability, communication and brand recognition, out of which he developed a range of car sounds. Suzuki says that while some automakers have chosen beautiful and interesting car sound designs, chasing celebrity clout is not the way to go when designing the sound behind serious machines.  “We really have to design carefully based on the psychological effects on a human,” Suzuki told TechCrunch. “ItÂ’s all about the relation between the human being and the machine itself.” Suzuki says smart sound design can help ease the difference between human and car by providing a shared language. Based on surveys he conducted, Suzuki came up with two new skeuomorphic electric engine sounds as well as adaptive sounds that reflect the time of day and the location of the drive.  His engine sounds are reminiscent of internal combustion engine revs, providing both drivers and pedestrians with a recognizable indication of speed increasing and decreasing. The sounds are placed at different pitches: one quite low, like a spaceship taking off; the other a bit higher, like a hovercraft vertically ascending. Audi, Ford and Jaguar Land Rover have also chosen to make futuristic copies of gasoline engines for some of their new electric vehicles.  SuzukiÂ’s sound design also includes in-car sounds, like powering on, turn signals or horn honking, that use AI to adapt to the time of day.

Suzuki posts 46% drop in first-quarter profit on slowing India demand

Mon, Aug 5 2019

TOKYO — Suzuki on Monday reported a 46.2% fall in first-quarter operating profit, hurt by lower output at home as it improves its inspection systems, and falling demand in India, its biggest market. Japan's fourth-largest automaker posted an operating profit of 62.7 billion yen (GBP487 million) for the April-June quarter, down from 116.5 billion yen a year earlier and below a mean forecast of 69.09 billion from eight analysts, according to Refinitiv. Suzuki reaffirmed its forecast for full-year operating profit to come in at 330 billion yen, up 1.7% from the year ended March 2019. Suzuki, known for its Swift and Baleno compact models, is bracing for subdued growth this year in India, where roughly one in two cars sold carries its brand. The company stuck to a forecast for vehicle sales to increase slightly on the year, but conceded that it may need to trim its forecasts in the coming months as slowing economic growth and stricter emissions standards could dent sales. Slowing profit growth could hamper its ability to invest in and develop lower-emissions vehicles and on-demand transportation services necessary to survive the technological upheaval currently underway in the global auto industry. The automaker has long acknowledged that it cannot shoulder the costs of developing electric vehicles and self-driving cars on its own, and has turned to Toyota to supply Suzuki vehicles with its gasoline hybrid systems.

Suzuki Jimny Lite is a blank canvas for off-road enthusiasts

Tue, Jun 22 2021

One of the most desirable new vehicles for sale right now is the Suzuki Jimny. The compact 4x4 was developed with a "less is more" philosophy, giving off-roaders everything they need to traverse harsh terrain, but with an affordable price and none of the luxo-fluff that many modern trucks come with. Now, Suzuki has announced an even more bare-bones Jimny Lite that delivers exactly what four-wheelers want in a no-nonsense, affordable package. First and foremost, the Jimny Lite will still offer the same 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine producing 101 horsepower and 96 pound-feet of torque, along with the same low-range four-wheel-drive and ladder frame construction that make the original such a great little off-roading machine. However, while regular Jimnys have a four-speed automatic option, the Jimny Lite will be offered with only one transmission choice, a five-speed manual.  Rather than alloys, the rig — called the "Diet Jimny" in an image filename on Suzuki Australia's website — will come with 15-inch steel wheels, tougher and cheaper than aluminum. Other exterior changes include halogen headlights rather than LED projectors, deleted fog lamps, and the subtle substitute of plastic textured side mirrors instead of the current gloss black units. Cabin wise, the infotainment touchscreen that includes satellite navigation as standard will be replaced with a old-school in-dash radio and CD player. Bluetooth is still included, though, so you can still stream navigation and digital music from your phone. Additionally, the digital climate controls will be chucked for a manually operated system. This sounds like a dream come true for enthusiasts, who tend to enjoy using their own aftermarket wheels, auxiliary lighting, and stereo options. Though pricing hasn't been announced, the Suzuki Jimny Lite will presumably be even more affordable, giving wrenchers a blank canvas to build their own rigs without paying up front for stuff they don't need. It's like when Toyota offered the 86 RC, a steel-wheeled, unpainted-bumper version of the 86 for race car builds. Unfortunately, like the 86 RC, the Jimny's sale area does not include the United States. The Jimny is available in its native Japan, south of our border, in Europe, Australia, as well as several other markets around the world. We don't see it coming stateside anytime soon, but that hasn't stopped us from longing for a Jimny from afar. With the Jimny Lite, our desire grows even stronger.
