This Samurai has been my personal daily driver for the past six months and is well tested. Rod's Auto Sales, also known as SamuraiSalvage, located in Marshalltown, IA is selling this reconditioned Samurai at auction. (Google SamuraiSalvage to find our website). (We offer the nation's largest collection of new and used Samurai, Sidekick and Tracker parts---call Rod at 641-751-2468 with questions). The 1988.5 Samurai was the best and last tin top imported to the U.S. Updates included: lower usable 5th gear ratio, larger radiator, outboard sway bar (making it more stable), improved leaf springs with teflon inserts (for a much better ride), improved interior, improved seats with 2" more leg room. This Samurai has many new parts replaced by our shop, which include: our 100 horse engine with newer Weber and Pacesetter header (approx. 30,000 on engine), new brakes, new wheel bearings, new exhaust system, new heavy duty clutch, rebuilt transmission and transfer case. Very good interior. Excellent dash with AM/FM radio. Digital clock. Two after market super-bright interior lights. Everything works, including all lights, wipers, washer, etc... Heater works great and has new 195 degree thermostat. Samurai has the maximum sized 235x75R15 A/T tires that will fit without having a lift kit. New 2" wheel spacers have been installed making a 4" wider stance, making it much more stable. It has a heavy duty Stow Master folding tow bar included (See in photos). This set-up is very easy to use and always there when you need it. It has a rear tow bar with a new 2" receiver. The Samurai can be flat towed with transmission in second gear and transfer case in neutral and the hubs in free position. (see photo of it being towed). The new heavy duty, powder coated roof rack/basket will be sold as a $1200 option. You will add this price to the selling price if you want the roof rack. This roof rack is heavy duty and ready to carry your trophy beast! (See our SamuraiSalvage Facebook page to see past customers with their custom built Samurais). This Samurai has our 1.3 Hi-Po engine, Weber carburetor, HD clutch kit and Pacesetter header with new exhaust. Price for this package alone is $3,000 plus $1,000 installation. Rebuilt transmission is $799. Rebuilt transfer case is $799, plus installation.New brakes, New wheel bearings. Transmission shift lever update. Transfer case shift lever update. Heavy duty steering stabilizer. All this is included in your winning bid. Please consider all of this when bidding or making offers. Reserve is very reasonable. We can install optional equipment such as: reduction transfer case gears, winch bumper/winch, lift kit, lockers, larger tires, etc. for extra $$. This Samurai is also for sale on our lot and we reserve the right to end the auction early for a buy now sale. Once the reserve is met, it will no longer be for sale outside of this auction, making it fair for all bidders. We can provide reasonable transport quotes for delivery right to your driveway! Suzuki Alto goes back to basics in Japan
Wed, Dec 24 2014Believe it or not, you're looking at a brand new car. Not an old model from the '80s that's still being manufactured in some far-flung corner of the world, not a rehash of old technologies, but an all-new model introduced in Japan for the Japanese domestic market. Looking like a cross between a Jimny and a VW Up!, the new Suzuki Alto is a different machine entirely from the somewhat ungainly but comparatively modern model of the same name manufactured in India by Maruti Suzuki for markets around the world. This is the JDM version, built to Kei car specifications, and shares little more than its badges with the Indian model. Based on a supposedly all-new platform, the new Alto boasts what Suzuki claims is the best fuel economy of any non-hybrid in Japan. That's partially because of its spritely curb weight, down by 132 pounds over the model it replaces to tip the scales at just 1,345 pounds. That's over 600 pounds lighter than a Smart Fortwo. The whole thing rides on a tiny 97-inch wheelbase, of which 80 inches are taken up by the passenger compartment. Power comes from a 660cc three-cylinder engine mated to either a five-speed automated manual or CVT in a number of configurations that ought to help Suzuki sell even more of these than the 4.8 million Altos it's sold in Japan alone since its introduction 35 years ago. Watch Indian cars fail Global NCAP crash tests miserably
Tue, May 17 2016It's taken for granted that cars currently for sale in Western countries pass crash tests, and often merit four- or five-star safety ratings in NCAP or NHTSA tests. This is why these scores attained by Indian market cars are so galling: seven vehicles currently sold in India got zero stars in any category – a horrifying clean sweep. It is understandable that cars sold in a developing market are cheap and equipment levels are low, but acceptable crash safety is something that should be considered essential in all markets. The cars tested in the Global New Car Assessment Programme were Hyundai's Eon, Maruti Suzuki's Eeco and Celerio models, Mahindra's Scorpio SUV and several Renault Kwid models. All of the cars were manufactured in India for the Indian market, and the Mahindra Scorpio was the sole larger car. It was first introduced in 2002, with updates made in 2006 and 2014. Mahindra has long planned to export its vehicles to the United States, with the likeliest version a pickup variant of the Scorpio. Renault's Kwid crossover was tested in three versions. Initially, the Kwid was tested with and without airbags, and on both accounts it scored zero stars in adult occupant protection and two stars in child occupant protection. Renault strengthened the bodyshell and the crash tests showed the updated Kwid's structure did not collapse; still, it was rated unstable and that it couldn't withstand further stress. On closer inspection, the structural reinforcements were found to be done only on the driver's side of the passenger cell. Renault has confirmed more safety updates are on their way. "We welcome Renault's efforts to correct this and we look forward to testing another improved version with airbags. Renault has a strong record of achievement in safety in Europe and it should offer the same commitment to its customers in India", says Global NCAP's David Ward. "Global NCAP strongly believes that no manufacturer anywhere in the world should be developing new models that are so clearly sub-standard. Car makers must ensure that their new models pass the United Nations' minimum crash test regulations, and support use of an airbag." The airbag-equipped Kwid was the only model of the seven cars tested that was fitted with one. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Court approves Suzuki bankruptcy plan
Fri, 05 Apr 2013Suzuki has won approval for its Chapter 11 plan to stop selling cars in the US and concentrate instead on the company's powersports products. Judge Scott C. Clarkson of the US Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California approved the plan after the company's creditors agreed to the conditions.
Suzuki will now sell its motorcycle, ATV and marine divisions to the newly minted Suzuki Motor of America subsidiary under the Suzuki name. The new company will be wholly owned by Suzuki Motor Company. This is the final piece of the company's restructuring puzzle.
The company says it will now be able to grow its powersports businesses here in the US and also provide auto parts and service to current Suzuki owners through what's left of the company's dealer network. You can check out the brief press release on the bankruptcy plan below.
