Chile is beautiful, and we drove there in a Subaru

For me, the most beautiful part of our recent Patagonia road trip was the two days spent inside the Torres del Paine national park in Chile. In terms of breathtaking vistas, this place has a ton. Everywhere you look, there's something beautiful to behold. And our merry band of Subarus had no trouble traversing the gravel, mountain roads that wind endlessly through the park. Because our trip to Patagonia was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, we played hookey for a day and went finishing in one of Torres del Paine's many rivers. Sure, the Subarus got us there without issue, but the main focus of this day was trying to catch one of the huge salmon swimming upstream. We failed, but still, if you're into fishing, Torres del Paine offers bucket-list quality stuff. Above, you'll see more of our sights from Chile's most beautiful park. Subaru recalls 48.5k Legacy, Outback models for steering defect

The Basics: Subaru is recalling 48,500 Legacy sedans and Outback CUVs from model years 2016 and 2017. The Problem: According to the NHTSA bulletin, the steering column in affected vehicles may not have been machined properly. This could cause the angle of the steering wheel to have no impact on the direction of travel – the wheel will turn and the car won't. Injuries/Deaths: Neither Subaru nor NHTSA have indicated whether there were any injuries or deaths associated with this recall. The fix: Subaru will inspect steering columns on the affected vehicles and replace them as necessary. Naturally, repairs will be done free of charge. If you own one: Subaru and NHTSA advise that owners do not drive their vehicles until they've been inspected. While Subaru is sending letters to owners, dealers will also reach out directly to schedule an on-sight inspection or arrange to have the vehicle towed to the dealership. Subaru confirms performance concept, XV Crosstrek Hybrid for New York

Subaru has made quite a name for itself as automaker that caters to the outdoorsy, green-leaning set. Now it's stepping up to the plate for those customers - some might say "finally" stepping up - with its first-ever hybrid vehicle.
The Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid will make its official debut next week at the New York Auto Show. And although there are no details about it just yet, we do have one, typically muddy, picture of the literally and figuratively green car to show.
The XV Crosstrek Hybrid will use a Subaru-developed hybrid system paired to the automaker's Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system. On the opposite end of the green scale, Subaru will also be showing off an "all-new performance concept car," which we can only hope is our first look at the next-generation WRX, or better still the WRX STI.
