Hello All,

Up for sale is my baby.. my pride and joy in this world.. my 2005 Subaru Impreza WRX STi. I'll start with a little history here; I traded my Infiniti G37S back in May or June of last year at Porsche of Arlington for the Subie. From what I was told, the previous owner did all of the modifications to the car, and was in the Army, and he came into the dealership and traded it for a Porsche 911. Since I bought the car at ~82k miles, I've put 5k on it and here's why. In July of last year, I was casually driving to New York when a cooling line blew, and the engine overheated on the spot. Coolant poured out of the exhaust and tears came from my eyes. It took 2 tow trucks to get me home, and a good 4 months for me to save up money while I was in school to pay for the rebuild. I'd like to genuinely note that the car was not pushed to destruction, and that Porsche of Arlington's "reassurance" that the car was thoroughly inspected and maintained to a standard of Porsche was a lie. I had the engine pulled at Mach V Motorsports in Sterling, and they confirmed that the engine was kaput, and that the cooling lines were worn and prone to destruction. After their diagnosis the car sat for months while I accumulated the funds for a proper rebuild, as I was not going to give anything but the best to my baby. As December approached, I contacted a fine gentleman at PMP Motorsports (Subaru part specialists) who supplied me with an EJ257 long block with 33k miles on it, and referred me to his personal engine builder at Flat Four Specialists who did an absolutely AMAZING job at putting this bad boy back together to say the least. Here is a quick list of parts used for the build; (I have all receipts of the build, source of the block, etc)...
-EJ257 long block out of an 05 Forester XT (33k miles)
-APS SR55 Turbo (rebuilt components)
-Turbo XT BOV
-FMIC with chrome piping (Turbo XT?)
-Manual BC
-Gates Water Pump/Timing Belt Kit
-All new hoses
-New 02 Sensors

There is probably so much more that I'm missing, but off the top of my head that's what it's got. When I got her she was running 18psi, and I was told by the specialists at both Mach V and PMP that she was running on a low boost setting. Upon completion of the build, I requested that the car be detuned to 15psi to break it in. I've now driven her about 2-3k miles since the build, and already did my first oil change at 87k as requested by Flat Four, and it came out clean. After driving it for a few thousand miles, I got her up on a lift with another Subaru specialist and thoroughly inspected the motor, and apart from tightening one oil line, there was not a drip of oil anywhere around the engine. To reiterate, there are NO oil leaks ANYWHERE as inspected! The drivetrain has never given me a problem, and its probably because I've never launched the car (IF YOU LAUNCH AN STI, YOU WILL KILL THE TRANSMISSION AND/OR DIFFERENTIAL, PLEASE DON'T). For what it's worth, I've babied the car; truthfully out of fear of law enforcement. I live in the suburbs of Washington, DC in Arlington, VA, and there's a cop on every corner. There is no doubt that this is the best car I've ever had, and I've had plenty of cars in my life from classic V8 sport coupes to twin turbo Z's. I wouldn't say the best asset of the car is the engine, but the flawless symmetrical all wheel drive system; you truly feel attached to the road at all times. I'll now talk about the pros and cons of this vehicle as if I were buying it myself. The car is CarFax certified no accidents and it's quite apparent as well, and the title is clear and in hand.

Body:
The car is absolutely clean, there isn't a single dent or ding on it anywhere. The car has the original factory wing, and gold BBS rims from the factory. There is some scratching on the bottom of the front bumper, as the car was lowered about an inch. The clips have also come off and are currently held on zip ties. I was quoted $100 to use compound and clips to redo the bumper, but in previous I've experienced that you should always leave body work to the buyer, as some are much more meticulous than others. There is also a very small scratch on the rear drivers side passenger door which is very minor. I attached photos of both for reference.

Interior:
The seats, dash, and everything else is stunning. There is an aftermarket pop out unit with Navi, DVD, Bluetooth, & USB capability, with a camera built in. The unit pops out on command, and retracts. The stereo is also wired to the trunk for subwoofers. There is one nit picky little thing; the previous owner did not include the key to the DEI alarm, so once in a while the turn signal doesn't work, it just clicks, but the hazards will work... I don't understand, so I don't touch it. It seems pretty simple because it works one minute, and not the next; or all day one day, and for a few minutes it won't. The horn was disconnected so that it's not honking all the time, but it should be pretty easy to follow the wire and disable it. Other than that, the only thing I could suggest is a shampooing of the mats, not even the carpets.

Engine:
The engine is mint. I have not experienced a single issue, CEL, not a thing. The car is detuned, and you can obviously feel the car want to keep boosting but it's limited by the computer, so I would probably suggest a tune after you've gotten used to the power. If this engine could be described in one word, it would be "potential". The car has a down pipe, but the cat is still on the car, and it has a nameless 3-3.5" muffler which has a beautiful rumble.

Suspension:
The car was lowered on star springs, which provide an incredibly soft ride for such performance it gives. All suspension components par inspection were good and in working order, and I have not experienced anything issues at all. The gold Brembo's are in great shape, but I think the front's are starting to screech a bit. I would also suggest a replacement of the front tires, as the snow has eaten away a bit of their life. She's sitting on BF Goodrinch's.

I've noted absolutely everything that I've experienced with the car, and I've put forth my best and most truthful effort to give the buyer an experience as I would have wanted myself. Anybody that claims their STi doesn't have problems is a liar, as problems come with these cars when not properly maintained. I've put a lot of money into this car, and I know what she's worth in such a condition. I'm only selling her to repay my debts; I love this car with all of my heart, and I've prolonged this day that I'd put her on sale for a very long time.

Upon completion of the sale, I'd need a $2000 deposit within 24 hours, and completed purchase within a week. I have the clear title in hand. If you're not serious, please don't bid- it's quite simple. I will answer everyone's questions promptly and do my best to make this a pleasant and easy experience to acquire your next rally super-car.

I will not ship the car unless I'm paid first; and will only accept cash or certified check, in which I will complete the transaction at a bank. I will work with you however, just please be considerate and inform me before bidding. Or, you could fly into DC and drive the car home. If the car sells for over 17, I'll include brand new black and blue Rally Armor mud flaps, and a brand new AEM UEGO wideband; both in box!

Thank you for your consideration, and best of luck in auction!

California adapts ZEV mandate with PHEVs for smaller automakers

Fri, Jun 5 2015

California is the nation's largest market for zero-emissions vehicles with over 100,000 of them estimated to be on the roads there. The state's goal is to keep that number growing every year. To that end, the California Air Resources Board is now tweaking its rules in a way that might not boost ZEVs but could mean more plug-in hybrids for the Golden State. Jaguar Land Rover, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Subaru, and Volvo asked for an exemption to the state's zero-emissions vehicle mandate last year due to their relatively small development budgets compared to larger automakers. CARB denied their request but did craft a compromise, according to Automotive News. Rather than being required to offer a ZEV in the state, companies with an annual global revenue of less than $40 billion, like those in this group, may instead sell plug-in hybrids to earn ZEV credits. The companies aren't completely off the hook, though. If these plug-in hybrids don't earn enough credits, the corporations must buy them on the market to make up the difference. Automakers with popular electric models like Nissan and Tesla have made a big business through this trading system by selling their surplus to rivals. Tesla alone pocketed $51 million in the first quarter from this part of its business, according to Automotive News. The changes to the regulations also aren't set in stone, yet. CARB is meeting in 2016 and could adjust things further at that time. Subaru testing a BRZ with STI badging and a big wing

Tue, May 23 2017

Pretty much since the introduction of the Subaru BRZ and its identical Toyota- (or Scion-) badged twin, enthusiasts have been pining for a more powerful version, preferably with an STI badge and all the performance tweaks that come with it. So far though, Subaru has only shown a turbocharged concept that's now a couple of years old, as well as a Japan-only BRZ tS by STI, which only had suspension and handling upgrades. But now, spy photos show Subaru is working on another STI-badged BRZ, and it's testing in the US. Our spy photographer caught this prototype near Subaru's office in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and it's wearing Michigan manufacturer plates. And, although Subaru taped over it, we can still clearly make out the STI badges on front and back. Despite the STI badges, we don't see any evidence that this BRZ has any kind of power adder like a turbocharger or supercharger. The front vents appear to be the same size as the current model, and there's no hood scoop to feed a possible top-mounted intercooler. The exhaust also looks roughly the same as the naturally aspirated BRZ. There are some other upgrades, though. Most noticeable is the huge rear wing, which has similar stanchions to the BRZ tS. In addition to the wing, the body is accented with the STI lip spoiler, side skirts, and rear bumper extensions available on the current BRZ. Behind the multi-spoke wheels are Brembo brakes at each corner. Based on these photos, we'd say this STI-badged BRZ is probably a track package/trim that improves the car's already excellent handling. We of course hope that there may be some horsepower upgrades under the hood. But a lack of visual changes for forced induction, and Subaru's history of reluctance regarding more powerful BRZs, has us erring on the slow side. Poor sales prompt Subaru to kill the Crosstrek Hybrid

Mon, Oct 3 2016

The Subaru XV Crosstrek is a major hit. It's high off the ground, offers enough seating for five, and has Subaru's iconic all-wheel-drive system, which is exactly what modern consumers want. As we pointed out last year, Subaru posted impressive sales figures thanks to its crossover lineup, which includes the Forester, Outback, and XV Crosstrek. It turns out, though, that Subaru owners aren't interested in the hybrid variant of the crossover, as Subaru plans to axe the XV Crosstrek Hybrid, reports Cars Direct. The discontinuation of the XV Crosstrek Hybrid is due to the crossover's poor sales figures, claims Cars Direct. Subaru introduced its first-ever production hybrid, the XV Crosstrek Hybrid, in 2013 and after just three years the vehicle is being killed. As we pointed out in our review of the vehicle, the hybrid's larger price tag and marginally better fuel economy made it a tough choice over the non-hybrid models. The XV Crosstrek Hybrid starts – sorry, started – at $27,245, while the base 2.0i model has - had - a price tag of $22,445. That's $4,800 more for a vehicle that gets seven mpg better in the city and only three mpg more on the highway at 30 mpg city and 34 mpg highway. We reached out to Subaru for a comment, but haven't heard back yet. We'll update the story when we hear back from the automaker.
