I purchased this 1992 Subaru SVX for myself as a secondary driver/project car and shortly after taking it home, found out I am moving to California. Unfortunately, this meant that I couldn't take multiple cars with me so now I'm offering this SVX for bidding. I've included a significant amount of pictures to try and document the vehicle to the best of my ability, but please understand that this is a 21-year old car with high mileage and that it will require some work in the near future. Chances are that you may be familiar with the SVX if you are looking at this auction, so I'll save you the long drawn out explanation of why these cars are so special, and instead provide you with this link:

In the past, when listing my personal cars on eBay, I've gone into logn diatribes about how much I'm going to miss this car and 'blah blah blah', but this time, I'm really regretful that I'll have to sell this SVX. This Liquid Silver 1992 model is my thirteenth SVX, and since riding in a SVX for the first time ten years ago, my interest in these cars has grown tremendously. It pains me to give up a car because I could not dedicate the time and resources to ship, care for and restore this car, much like I did with my last SVX over a period of six years. Enough sappy stuff though, and onto the important info!

Running Condition:

This SVX just passed NJ inspection last week. Now, don't go getting all exciting thinking that this car is fit for your grueling reverse commute of 50 miles, or a cross country fall colors tour! A sub-$1000 car will need its fair share of attention. NJ inspects for emissions along, because things like sketchy tires and an Airbag warning light just don't seem to be all that important to folks here in the Garden State. NJ passed this SVX for emissions despite the loudness of the exhaust that can best be described as 'mild drone'. I imagine that the exhaust should be one of the items addressed by the new owner, as a quick visual inspection pointed me to some areas of rust and concern around the front and mid pipe junctions. Don't be deterred, though. This SVX does start right up, and still gets up and goes on the highway like it should. I registered the car and put a couple hundred miles on it to diagnose and get an idea of what I'd have to put into it.

The H-6 sounds good; no knocks or taps that I've experienced. The car does idle a bit high once in awhile, and the Check Engine light is intermittently on and off, which is likely related. The airbag warning light is on, and I have not checked into this further. The car shifts properly, and there are no signs of binding or other common SVX transmission issues, which leads me to suspect that the unit has been rebuilt or replaced at some point. The suspension doesn't have any major knocks or clunks, but the struts are worn so the ride is a bit mushy. The brakes work well, and the ABS is functioning. No warping or squeaks that I noticed. The previous owner mentioned replacing the radiator, timing belt, battery, and alternator recently. Its evident that at least three of those have been addressed, so I assume that the timing belt has been done at some point in the past year. The car had been sitting for at least a few months prior to my ownership, so expect to go over it before putting it in regular service. Drive it away if you want, but expect the car to need some issues addressed before counting on its reliability.

Exterior Condition:

The paint on this SVX would benefit from a good compounding and wax, but I'd say the exterior is in Average to Good condition, especially considering the age and mileage of this car. The Liquid Silver/Black paint scheme looks good overall. There are two rust spots forming on the car, behind each of the rear wheels. The alloy wheels are chipping, but there are spare wheels included if you'd like to swap them out. The General Altimax Winter/Snow tires are in fair condition and should be replaced soon. All of the glass on this car is in good shape and free of cracks or damage.

Interior Condition:

There are no signs that this SVX was smoked in as the interior smells ok, and the carpets, seats and headliner are in good shape. There are two sets of mats in the car and the carpet looks good. Dash instruments are working and the factory AM FM tape player functions properly. Power options are all working correctly including, lights washers, defrosters, windows, cruise, etc. The driver seat is a bit worn and torn on the bolster from a previous owner getting in and out of the car. The driver sun visor is broken off and not present, but the passenger one looks fine and isn't really sagging.

Please take the time to look at all of the photos of the car.

Toyota GT86 engineer Tada recounts how sports car came to be

Wed, 13 Feb 2013

Because the Toyota GT86, Scion FR-S and Subaru BRZ coupes are now a reality, it's almost hard to imagine the struggle that had to happen within the large, conservative corporate structures at both automakers for the joint project to even get off of the ground.
Speaking to those struggles on Toyota UK's Toyota Blog, GT86 Chief Engineer Tetsuya Tada enlightens us with a recap of the sports car's earliest origins. For Tada, the first stages of the project must have seemed almost as dreamlike as the final product is to drive.
Said the Chief, "I had been working in the minivan department engineering new product, but a month after the meeting I was summoned. 'Forget about minivans,' they said, 'you are now working on the sports-car project.'"

Subaru Ascent crossover's roofline revealed

Tue, Nov 21 2017

Just recently, Subaru announced that the new Ascent three-row crossover would be revealed at the L.A. Auto Show. Along with the announcement came a teaser that didn't reveal much of anything. Now Subaru has released a second teaser, shown above, that is significantly more generous. The teaser gives us a solid look at the roofline and greenhouse of the Ascent. In general, it looks very much like a taller, more squared-off Outback roof, particularly at the back. But it doesn't quite look as upright as the Forester. The top of the front fender has a more pronounced shoulder over the wheel arches than either of those Subarus, too. Based on past spy shots, we're expecting the rest of the Ascent to continue the "big Outback" look. Expect a similar hexagonal grille and chiseled sheet metal as the Outback and the rest of the Subaru line. We'll get our complete look at the new crossover on November 28 at the L.A. Auto Show. Just add power | 2017 Subaru Impreza First Drive

Fri, Dec 9 2016

The phrase "all new" gets bandied about way more than it should in the automotive world. Depending on how lenient an automaker's marketing department is feeling at the time, refreshed fascias and a reshuffling of trim levels might earn a tired vehicle the all-new appellation. That's not what Subaru has done with its reborn Impreza compact. Everything from its wheels to its windows has been completely redesigned for 2017. With one glaring exception, the 2017 Subaru Impreza has benefited immensely from its rebirth. The chassis is stiffer, the steering is better, and the interior is larger than before. Like on most Subarus, standard all-wheel drive remains a key selling point. The only thing that's missing is more power. Subaru has gotten guff over the years for its exterior design, with vehicles being called everything from ugly (Baja) to odd (B9 Tribeca). The 2017 Impreza doesn't fit those descriptions. There's just enough surfacing pressed into its bodysides to attract the eye, and the burly flared-shoulder fenders add a muscular stance. Dead-on, the Impreza's face is a bit too nondescript – if it didn't wear a Subaru badge, you'd be forgiven for mistaking it for a Honda or Toyota – but it's not unattractive. The bug eyes of Imprezas past are now nothing more than a historical footnote. The Impreza is again available as either a sedan or, for $500 more, a hatchback. The trunk of the sedan measures 12.3 cubic feet. Obviously, the hatch offers more utility than the sedan, with 20.8 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and a maximum of 55.3 cubes with the seats folded. That's more than the VW Golf's 52.7 and way more than the new Honda Civic hatchback's maximum of 46.2. The first thing we noticed from the driver's seat is how easy it is to see out of the 2017 Impreza. Visibility is excellent in every direction, and all that glass means the cabin feels light and airy. Large, easy-to-read speedometer and tachometer gauges sit front and center, but the rest of the information needed for the task of driving is spread across three different LCD screens. The first sits between the two gauges, and the second is atop the center stack. The third screen is the largest, measuring 6.5 inches on base 2.0i models and 8.0 inches in Sport and Limited trims.
