Next-gen Subaru WRX STI spotted at the N"urburgring

Subaru has been busy testing the next-generation WRX STI. Well, it may be the STI. The big wing out back lends some credence to that theory, but it could be that the basic WRX is getting new action in the back section. Time will tell.
In either case, spy photographers nabbed a few shots of the heavily camouflaged sedan running around the Nürburgring. Unfortunately, it looks as if Subaru has taken some of the sexy out of the WRX Concept we saw at the New York Auto Show, leaving this car looking more derivative of the current model than a revolution in design. The bold power bulge has disappeared from the vehicle's hood and the lower fascia looks far more demure than the the wild concept. Likewise, the muscular rear fenders have been toned down substantially.
The result is a car that looks more like a mildly warmed over version of the current model than a production version of the WRX Concept. Still, engineers and designers may have a long way to go before the finished product hits the market, so we'll reserve final judgement for now. After all, the early BRZ mules were nothing short of a travesty to look at, and we know how that turned out. Hope springs eternal.

2020 Subaru Legacy spied with significantly revised styling

The current Subaru Legacy has been roughly the same car since it was introduced for the 2015 model year, with just a very light restyle for 2018. As such, it makes sense that Subaru is preparing a much more comprehensive redesign. One of our spy photographers caught the next Subaru Legacy midsize family sedan with that very update hidden by a thin vinyl wrap. From the looks of it, the new car will still be built off the existing platform. The entire greenhouse and glass area is practically identical to that of the current model. Aside from that, it every other panel has been massaged in some way. Up front, the grille looks a little shorter in height, but also stretched wider. The sides have more slant to them, too. The headlights have more of an upward sweep to them, as well. Overall, these changes give the Legacy more of a friendly smile as opposed to the blunt, chunky look of the current model. The lower grille and fascia have also been updated. Along the sides, the deep creases of the current model have been softened. The shoulder line that rises up over the rear wheel also gets a little bit of a dip at the leading edge near the front wheel. While the glass area is pretty much the same, the fake window trim on the C-pillar has been elongated to match a slightly more drawn out roof line. Finally at the back, the trunk lid looks more upright than that on the current model. The taillights have more molded shaping to them. Also noteworthy is the fact that this version has no exposed exhaust tips. The rear bumper is smooth all the way across. Subaru has already revealed the 2019 Legacy and Outback, both of which are basically unchanged except some new feature content. As such, the soonest this car will be out will be for the 2020 model year. That seems fairly probable, too, considering how close this car looks to being production ready and the age of the current Legacy. Subaru brought back its best rally racing look

Every car has a color combination that suits it best, one that just fits and flatters. For the Subaru WRX STI, it's blue and gold. At the 2019 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Subaru revealed it is bringing back its iconic motorsports livery for the 2019 season with a modern interpretation of the blue and yellow star cluster graphic, complemented by gold wheels. It also announced it is reorganizing its motorsport division's structuring. The WRX STI has been seen in numerous colorways throughout the years. One of the main patterns last year was a graphic-heavy assortment of gray and white, accented by either yellow, red or blue. But for 2019, Subaru is following its heart and returning to one of the brand's most classic looks. According to Subaru, the colorway is inspired by the World Rally teams of the '90s and '00s. It features WR Blue Pearl and 13-spoke gold wheels. A massive yellow star cluster logo stretches across the front and rear doors and bleeds onto the rear arches. The sweeping comet design starts at the front quarter and across the B-pillar and roof. Furthermore, the red STI logo is seen all over the car, in places such as the front air intake, the roof scoop, and on the rear wing panel. Small dark blue star clusters on the front and rear sides of the car add more texture to the design, as well as bright yellow Subaru and Subaru Motorsports banners. After Subaru's performance division Subaru Technica International celebrated its 30th anniversary last year, Subaru is renaming its motorsports arm. Now aptly called Subaru Motorsports, Subaru plans to expand into more racing divisions, beyond its typical participation. Fans will have to wait a couple of months to see the gorgeous blue, yellow, and gold scheme. Subaru will debut the new car March 15 at Missouri's Rally at the 100 Acre Wood as part of the American Rally Association's 2019 National Championship Series. Related Video:
