2017 Subaru Impreza sedan spied for the first time

Subaru gave us a look at the attractive concept for the next-gen Impreza hatchback at the recent Tokyo Motor Show, but new spy shots present the opportunity to check out the production version as a four-door sedan. While camouflage makes the details harder to suss out, there are a few notable similarities. At the front, the concept's thicker grille and more angular headlights both appear present through the cladding. The shape of the A-pillar also looks alike. However, the visually interesting creases along the sides either aren't coming to production or are just very well hidden on this example. At the back, the taillight coverings suggest the C-shaped units from Tokyo might see production. In addition to the angular styling, the next-gen Impreza should see a mechanical overhaul by moving to Subaru's new modular platform featuring the company's more fuel efficient, direct-injected engine. Don't expect the brand's famous all-wheel drive to go anywhere. With production slated to move to the company's factory in Lafayette, Indiana, the latest Impreza should launch in the latter part of 2016 as a 2017 model. Subaru punches out 15 millionth Boxer engine

It's a small milestone for our favorite manufacturer of gold-wheeled, all-wheel-drive sedans and crossovers, as Subaru announced that it has built its 15 millionth Boxer engine – a mere 49 years after it installed a tiny, horizontally opposed, four-cylinder mill in the 1966 1000 sedan. The milestone engine powers something a good bit larger than the 1000, which was (ironically considering Subaru today) the brand's first front-drive vehicle. Today's boxer, the so-called FB25 2.5-liter four, was built for the current Legacy and Outback. The 15 millionth Boxer hasn't been the brand's only accomplishment in 2015. The company built its 14 millionth Symmetrical all-wheel-drive system just last month. Subaru has only been at its trademark AWD system for 43 years, and with sales going the way they are, it seems only a matter of time before the Boxer engine is surpassed. Related Video:

Subaru facing class-action suit over excess oil use

A recently filed lawsuit in federal court against Subaru of America and its parent Fuji Heavy Industries claims that several recent models burn an excessive amount of oil. The case, which is seeking class-action status, covers examples of the 2011-2014 Forester, 2013 Legacy and 2013 Outback with the 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine and the 2012-2013 Impreza and 2013 XV Crosstrek with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder.
The suit alleges that Subaru knew about the excessive oil consumption but didn't fix the problem, according to USA Today. It contends that owners have to spend an unreasonable amount of money to keep these models topped up with Texas tea, and that the people represented wouldn't have bought the vehicle if they had known that this could happen.
As proof of Subaru's knowledge of excessive oil use, the lawsuit cites four technical service bulletins from the company telling dealers about the issue, although, that would seem to partially invalidate the claim that the automaker hasn't attempted to fix things. The case was filed on behalf of two men, one with a 2014 Forester and the other with a 2013 Outback. "Following an extensive investigation, we now look forward to litigating the case," said Matthew Schelkopf, an attorney for the plaintiffs, to USA Today.
