You can buy the last Subaru rally car driven by Colin McRae

Colin McRae continued entertaining the fans for years after retiring from competing full-time in the World Rally Championship – though sadly not for enough of them. His last public appearance was at the 2007 Goodwood Festival of Speed, driving the car you see here to the crowd's delight. And now it could be yours. Though it may look mostly like any ordinary Subaru Impreza WRX STI, this is a full-on S12B rally machine. Petter Solberg drove it for the factory Subaru World Rally Team throughout most of the 2007 World Rally Championship, scoring two podium finishes. That would make it desirable enough as it is, but then McRae drove it up Lord March's front lawn (see the video below) to cement its place in history. It was the last time McRae drove in public before he died in a helicopter crash near his home in Scotland just months later. The vehicle has since been stripped down to its shell and completely rebuilt to showroom condition. It has only put on a little over 200 miles since the engine was rebuilt, and the clutch was replaced just 50 miles ago. It has new seats and harnesses, fire extinguishers, brake discs and pads, the suspension has been fully rebuilt, the wheels powder-coated afresh.... top-notch, in other words. C&M Motors out of Omagh, Northern Ireland, has it listed on RallySales.com with an asking price of GBP159,500 – equivalent to just over $230k at current exchange rates. That would put it in contention as one of the most expensive Subarus we've ever seen, rivaling the $238k which Sports Car Market records as having been paid for another ex-McRae Impreza just this past October. Scion testing updated FR-S

It looks like Toyota is preparing a mid-cycle update for its critically acclaimed GT86, known here in the US as the Scion FR-S or Subaru BRZ. As far as updates go, this one looks to be rather average. Hidden behind the camouflaged front and rear ends, we have new headlights and taillights, which according to our spies looked to be of the LED variety. We wouldn't be shocked to see the GT86 get LED taillights, although fitting the top-of-the-line headlights seems less likely. Supporting that position are the images we have of the actual headlights in action, which don't look quite bright enough to be full LED units. Instead, we'd expect some new form of running light, perhaps with bi-xenon low beams. Aside from the lamps, the front bumper gets a larger, more prominent lower intake, while the rear end sports a redefined bumper that houses larger dual exhaust tips. The size of the spoiler has been increased, too. According to our spies, we should also expect powertrain enhancements – which we can only hope means more power – as well as upgrades to the interior of the GT86. While it's possible that the updates being tested in Germany could be exclusive to the European market, that seems unlikely. 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid [w/video]

The butler announcing arriving guests to the hybrid party has just called Subaru's name, at long last. The XV Crosstrek wasn't even supposed to come to the US, but the 2014 XV Crosstrek Hybrid endows it with a suit tailored for our regulatory dress code, adding all that weighty battery goodness to the Impreza-turned-compact-crossover.
Subaru didn't want to say why it sent the XV Crosstrek to the hybrid party first, but the original car itself was an opportunistic play for the European market that has worked out surprisingly well over there and over here. In areas represented by the American flag it's doing about 4,000 sales per month and on pace to hit 50,000 units for all of 2013; that's just another happy chapter in Subaru's generally awesome year that sees it outpacing Volkswagen through the end of October, 347,890 units to 342,962.
The XV Crosstrek Hybrid is the opportunistic play for the 25 percent of Subaru buyers that will be looking for a hybrid as their next vehicle, so sayeth Subaru, and for those outside the fold who are determined to include the word "hybrid" in their purchase but also want some extra ride height, space and all-wheel drive.
