Scion FR-S SCCA World Challenge racecar, ready for the track
Thu, 01 Nov 2012Of all the many Scion FR-S models here on the SEMA floor in Las Vegas - and there are a great many of them, have no doubt - the very purpose-built car from Stout Racing is one that we may hear about again in the future.
The Stout Racing team will be campaigning the racy FR-S in the SCCA World Challenge series in the upcoming season, and is currently building some buzz on the Scion SEMA show stand. The car makes use of a supercharger that was jointly developed by Stout and TRD, as well as a front splitter, doors and rear wing - all by Vertex.
Driver Robert Stout will run the FR-S in the GTS class next year, with a debut slated for the Streets of St. Petersburg event, scheduled to go off in March of 2013.
Santa swaps his sleigh for a Ferrari-powered Toyota
Fri, Dec 23 2016A Ferrari-powered Toyota 86 is sure to garner a bit of attention, as well it should. We've been paying attention throughout this build, so it should be no surprise then that Santa did as well. He's ditched his red sleigh for the Gumout GT4586 in this video. If you've been following along, you know that Ryan Tuerck and Gumout built this completely bonkers machine that's far more exciting than some previous Japanese/Italian mash-up automobiles. Donut Media has been doing their part to document and promote every stage of the process. This new video is filled with the gratuitous amounts of lights, noise, and tire smoke that Donut is known for. We don't know the conversion from horsepower to reindeerpower, but the GT4586 should provide plenty of oomph for Santa's Christmas trek. Lightweight Toyota GT86 spotted on Nordschleife with carbon panels, upgraded aero
Tue, 24 Jun 2014We've seen (and frankly reported on) so many rumors of more powerful and performance-focused versions of the Subaru BRZ, Toyota GT86 and Scion FR-S at this point that haven't materialized that, at this point, we're almost tired of them. Almost. But what we have here was enough to pique our jaded interests as only a carbon-bodied sports car on the Nürburgring could do.
What we're looking at is, well, we don't quite know, to tell you the truth. What we can tell is that it's a Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S for us) wearing new wheels and a carbon-fiber hood, roof, racing-spec rear wing and subtle lip spoiler. The vents in the hood indicate that the prototype in question could be packing an upgraded engine to go with the lighter body panels and upgraded aero, and the interior (at least as far as we can see) looks pretty well stripped out.
The right-hand drive configuration tells us this is either destined for former territories of the British Empire or for the racetrack. Considering the ride height, full glass and apparent lack of roll cage, our money's on this prototype is being developed for the Japanese Domestic Market, where Toyota badges the sports car simply as the 86. We can always hope, though, that some version makes it into Scion showrooms in North America... we just won't get our hopes up too high.
