2004 Scion Xb Base Wagon 5-door 1.5l on 2040-cars
I bought this car new in Dec ’03 at Toyota of Glendora Ca. In addition to regular 4-5k mile oil changes, it was serviced 5/07 by Toyota at 65k for scheduled maintenance, again 10/09 at 96k with a water pump and the routine 100k service. In 9/13, the 120k service was performed at Toyota in Palm Springs and included brakes. I have all keys, docs and everything else since new. The car runs great and I think it has a long life ahead. The car shows some use because I have transported lumber, cement, hardware, bricks and everything else anybody would need to work on and fix up a personal residence over a period of years. As a result, the dash, on the passenger side is a bit scuffed from lumber rubbing on it. Also the interior plastic molding around the hatch is scuffed for the same reason. The exterior is marked here and there with paint transfer and scuffs in a few areas. The front bumper has some paint transfer from rubbing against a carport post. The right side has some white paint transfer from the white car next to mine opening its door because the spaces are narrow and the guy is fat. There seems to be a bit of transfer on the left rear bumper which I have only just noticed while taking these pictures. There is a small dent shown on the right front fender in the picture. The Michelin tires were new in May ’09 at 88K, but show good remaining tread per the pics. The windshield had rock impacts and was replaced 2/14. Everything works fine. The only reason I’m selling the car is that after ten years, I just want a change. (Probably a mistake.) It’s been the best and most practical car I’ve ever owned and I’d like it to go to someone who’ll give it a good home. Included is a Magellan Roadmate 9250T-LMB 7" GPS with lifetime updates. Vehicle has 125,010 miles right now. |

Toyota GT86 convertible on 'indefinite hold'
Sat, 05 Oct 2013Bad news, sportscar fans. According to a new report from What Car?, Toyota has cancelled plans to produce a GT86 convertible, a model based on the FT-86 Open Concept that debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. In truth, Toyota never actually confirmed it would produce the budget-friendly droptop in the first place, but rumors have been flying since last year and Toyota reportedly showed its embattled Scion dealers a FR-S version of the convertible in August. Presumably, this means that a lidless variant of the Subaru BRZ is not in the cards, either.
The reason for the move is unknown, though What Car? reports "one possible cause is weight; Toyota did say that further work would be required on rigidity before the convertible could be launched, and that could have added extra bulk that conflict with the regular GT86's ethos of light weight and agile handling." It doesn't look like that work will happen anytime soon, as "sources now say that the car has now been delayed indefinitely, with no place in Toyota's product plan in either 2014 or 2015." Still holding out hope? What Car? says the project could be "fast-tracked" if management decides it wants to reboot the program down the road.

Scion sketches SEMA spread starring Slayer, skateboarder
Sat, 20 Sep 2014I was in Nashville last weekend for a friend's bachelor party. It's all rather fuzzy, but I do recall that my friends and I found it hilarious to request Slayer every time one of the country groups on the Broadway strip asked for a specific song to be played. While there were a few good sports, most didn't find it too funny, largely because country music and Slayer don't mix all that well. Actually, Slayer and a lot of things don't mix too well. Like Slayer and Scion, Toyota's slowly withering youth brand.
This mish-mash hasn't prevented the Japanese budget brand from teaming with the metal group for a concept vehicle based on the tC coupe (shown above). If the Slayer link is a bit too extreme, Scion has a more mainstream xB, styled by skateboarder Riley Hawk on the way. Both new vehicles will be shown at the upcoming SEMA show, but Scion has opted to release a pair of sketches of both aftermarket creations ahead of the Las Vegas expo.
It's hard to tell what kind of exterior changes have been made to the tC, although Scion says the cabin now boasts a 32-inch monitor, as well as a heavily revamped stereo. As you can see, it will say "Slayer" on the door, in the band's stylized script.
2014 Scion tC with updated styling priced from $19,210*
Wed, 08 May 2013Scion has released pricing information for a number of models, the most important of which being the updated 2014 tC that debuted at the New York Auto Show in March. The cost of entry for the tweaked coupe is now $19,210 with the standard manual transmission, or $20,210 if you'd rather the car did the shift-work for you (*both prices exclude the $755 destination charge). These numbers represent an increase of $485 versus the 2013 model with either transmission.
We have yet to drive the refreshed tC, but Scion says it ought to provide a much more engaging experience from behind the wheel. Automatic-equipped models now enjoy faster shift times with dynamic rev matching, and regardless of transmission, the tC is said to have improved handling dynamics thanks to reworked shock absorbers, stabilizer bar hardware modifications and retuned electric power steering.
In addition to the obvious re-schnozzing of the tC, other updates for the 2014 model year include a new standard auto display, featuring a 6.1-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, HD radio and steering wheel-mounted controls.
