1997 SAAB 9000 AERO HATCHBACK, 5 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. THIS HAS BEEN MY DAILY DRIVER AND i REALLY HATE TO SELL IT BUT I HAVE ONE TOO MANY CARS NOW AND ONE OF THEM HAS TO GO....SO HERE IT IS. I HAVE OWNED ALL KINDS OF HIGH PERFORMANCE CARS IN MY LIFE AND THE SAAB AERO IS STILL ONE OF MY FAVORITE TOP 3 CARS. I THINK ITS BECAUSE EVERY CAR IS A COMPROMISE....YOU GET THIS BUT GIVE UP THAT. BUT THE AERO DOES EVERYTHING SO WELL AND IT GIVES UP NOTHING IS PROBABLY WHY I LIKE IT SO MUCH. WHERE ELSE CAN YOU GET SUPERB POWER AND GET OVER 30 MPG AT THE SAME TIME? GREAT LOOKS AND THE ABILITY TO CRAM A TON OF STUFF IN THE HATCH? ALL THE LUXURY YOU COULD WANT AND WITH GREAT RELIABILITY? ALL WITH THE AERO...THAT'S JUST MY TAKE ON IT. THIS AERO RUNS GREAT......CLUTCH, ENGINE, AND GEARBOX WORK EXCELLENT, TURBO BOOSTS GREAT RIGHT TO THE END OF THE GAUGE LIKE IT SHOULD AS IT PUSHES YOU BACK IN THE FINE AERO LEATHER SPORTS SEATS. MECHANICALLY, I WOULD DRIVE IT ACROSS COUNTRY TOMORROW WITH NO WORRIES. NEW PLUGS, AIR FILTER, AND FRONT BRAKES LAST MONTH. AIR CONDITIONING IS NOT BLOWING COLD NOW AND ABS LIGHT IS ON, PROBABLY WILL NEED A BRAKE SENSOR FOR THAT AS THE BRAKES WORK GREAT. STEREO AND CD WORK FINE, BUT ANTENNA END IS GONE AND YOU WILL NEED IT TO GET RECEPTION SO I HAVE BEEN JUST PLAYING CD'S WHICH SOUND GREAT. TIRES ARE GOOD ALL AROUND AND PAINT IS STILL GOOD, EXCEPT FOR THE FRONT LEFT FENDER WHICH HAD DEVELOPED SOME RUST AROUND THE OUTER LIP AREA AND HAD TREATED IT AND COVERED IT TO KEEP IT FROM GETTING WORSE. SUPRISINGLY, THE REST OF THE CAR IS COMPLETELY RUST FREE, INCLUDING THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR WHICH LOOKS LIKE A CAR ONLY A COUPLE YEARS OLD. THE RIGHT FENDER OUTSIDE MOLDING WAS MISSING WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR, AND I AM GUESSING BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM ON THE LEFT FENDER MOLDING THE PREVIOUS OWNER REMOVED IT AS TO NOT HAVE THE SAME THING HAPPEN THERE. ALSO THE TRIM PIECE BEHIND THE RIGHT FENDER IS NOT THERE, HARD TO NOTICE IT ACTUALLY. INTERIOR IS IN NICE SHAPE, LEATHER SEATS STILL LOOKS GOOD WITH ALL FUNCTIONS WORKING PROPERLY. SUNROOF WORKS GREAT AND DOESNT LEAK. EXHAUST IS IN GOOD SHAPE. ALL GAUGES WORK AS THEY SHOULD, AS WELL AS LIGHTS, BLINKERS AND TURN SIGNALS. RIGHT FENDER HAS A SMALL DING IN IT, OTHERWISE ITS A PRETTY STRAIGHT CAR. REAR BUMPER COVER HAS SOME CLEAR LIFTING, REST OF THE CAR HAS THE USUAL MINOR SCRATCHES ASSOCIATED WITH A 1997 MODEL AND LOOKS GOOD. ALL IN ALL A GOOD RUNNING, HARD TO FIND LOW MILEAGE 5 SPEED AERO THAT NEEDS SOME MINOR TLC. IF YOU HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR A GOOD LOW MILEAGE AERO 5 SPEED, THIS MIGHT JUST BE YOUR CAR AS I DON'T SEE THEM WITH UNDER 100K MUCH ANYMORE. I WILL REQUIRE A$200.00 DEPOSIT WITHIN 48 HOURS TO SECURE YOUR WINNING BID OR THE CAR WILL BE OFFERED TO THE NEXT HIGHEST BIDDER OR RELISTED AND NEGATIVE FEEDBACK WILL BE LEFT, SO SERIOUS BIDDERS ONLY PLEASE. BALANCE DUE WITH 7 DAYS FROM AUCTION'S END TO BE IN CASH ONLY AT PICKUP. LOW RESERVE SO DON'T ASK! FLY IN AND DRIVE HOME IF YOU CHOOSE. ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, JUST ASK. HAPPY BIDDING!

1999 Saab 9-3 Viggen is a Swede worth remembering on MotorWeek
Sun, Aug 30 2015Today, Saab survives in name only after a protracted series of bankruptcies and attempted comebacks with new owners. At the turn of the millennium, however, the brand was still able to make some great cars, though. MotorWeek is showing off one of its very best in this vintage review for the 1999 9-3 Viggen. The jet-inspired Viggen was the pinnacle of everything Saab's engineers could do at the time. Starting with the standard 9-3, the suspension was hunkered down to improve handling and lower bodywork was added for better aerodynamics. Now that the exterior looked the part, the 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder was tweaked to make 225 horsepower and 252 pound-feet of torque. While that output may not sound hugely impressive by modern standards, those were strong numbers in the day, and the following model year made even more power. After some time behind the wheel of the VIggen, MotorWeek came away quite impressed with this Swede. While the Viggen might not have offered the full capability of high-performance, European contemporaries like the BMW M3, Saab really showed its strengths with this model.
What would you drive in 1985?
Wed, May 6 2020Bereft of live baseball games to watch, I've turned to the good ship YouTube to watch classic games. While watching the 1985 American League Championship Series last night, several of the broadcast's commercials made its way into the original VHS recording, including those for cars. "Only 8.8% financing on a 1985 Ford Tempo!" What a deal! That got me thinking: what would I drive in 1985? It sure wouldn't be a Tempo. Or an IROC-Z, for that matter, despite what my Photoshopped 1980s self would indicate in the picture above. I posed this question to my fellow Autobloggists. Only one could actually drive back then, I was only 2 and a few editors weren't even close to being born. Here are our choices, which were simply made with the edict of "Come on, man, be realistic." West Coast Editor James Riswick: OK, I started this, I'll go first. I like coupes today, so I'm pretty sure I'd drive one back then. I definitely don't see myself driving some badge-engineered GM thing from 1985, and although a Honda Prelude has a certain appeal, I must admit that something European would likely be in order. A BMW maybe? No, I'm too much a contrarian for that. The answer is therefore a 1985 Saab 900 Turbo 3-Door, which is not only a coupe but a hatchback, too. If I could scrounge up enough Reagan-era bucks for the ultra-cool SPG model, that would be rad. The 900 Turbo pictured, which was for auction on Bring a Trailer a few years ago, came with plum-colored Bokhara Red, and you're damn sure I would've had me one of those. Nevermind 1985, I'd probably drive this thing today. Associate Editor Byron Hurd: I'm going to go with the 1985.5 Ford Mustang SVO, AKA the turbocharged Fox Body that everybody remembers but nobody drives. The mid-year update to the SVO bumped the power up from 175 ponies (yeah, yeah) to 205, making it almost as powerful (on paper, anyway) as the V8-powered GT models offered in the same time frame. I chose this particular car because it's a bit of a time capsule and, simultaneously, a reminder that all things are cyclical. Here we are, 35 years later, and 2.3-liter turbocharged Mustangs are a thing again. Who would have guessed?
Chunk of ice smashes man's windshield
Tue, Jan 5 2016Driving a car piled with snow isn't just lazy, it's dangerous. A driver on Interstate 495 South in Massachusetts learned that the hard way last week after a huge chunk of ice flew off the top of an SUV and onto his windshield. Jeffrey Cote's dashboard camera was running as he drove his Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon down the freeway in Haverhill, MA, Wednesday morning. He was following an SUV in the left hand lane. The SUV doesn't appear to have too much accumulation on it, but the owners clearly didn't remove the snow and ice from the very top of the vehicle. A large chunk of ice flew off the top of the SUV, spun through the air and shattered Cotes windshield. Cote's must be one of the cooler heads on Massachusetts' roads. He didn't swerve, or swear or even gasp. Despite being unable to see the road and covered in glass Cotes safely moved over to the right lanes and safely pulled off on to the shoulder after the accident. The ice not only totally destroyed Cote's windshield but damaged a wiper arm and his side mirror as well. "If I had braked harder, I could have avoided impact," Cotes wrote in the video description. "But it initially appeared the piece was going to fall in front of me." Cotes couldn't read the driver's license plate on the footage and told CBS Boston that he doesn't think the other driver even realizes what occurred. He told the news station he hopes the video reminds people to do the right thing and clear the snow off their cars. "Just a few seconds, just try to slam as much ice as possible off your roof," Cotes told CBS Boston. "Because, it could have gone a lot worse, and it could save someone's life if you do a better job cleaning," Cote said. News Source: CBS Boston Saab Driving Safety Videos snow winter driving cold
