1991 SAAB 900 CONVERTIBLE COUPE

I bought the car about 6 years ago.  The car was last registered in 2009.  I have kept the car covered with a car cover, in a covered carport, until about two months ago, when I moved it to its current location.  I was going to restore the car and give it to my wife, but both she and I have been sick, so I never got around to working on it.

The car runs well but it is not perfect.  Please see, “PROBLEMS,”  below.

I do not see colors well, but I believe that the color in the pictures is less gold/champagne than the car actually is.

The car has an automatic transmission.

This car is not a turbo.

When I bought the SAAB, (about 6 years ago), the previous owner told me that the top was new, and that it had not been involved in any accidents.  I believe that the previous owner replaced the original radio with an upgraded radio, but I am not certain of this.

After buying the car, I had the car professionally painted. The remaining repairs seemed to me to be cosmetic and/or minor, with the exception of the transmission, which is slightly slipping.  I do not know how to repair that or what is needed to repair it.

I have not been involved in any accidents in the car.  Other than the prior owner telling me that the car had not been in any accidents prior to my purchase, I do not know if the car was in any accidents prior to my purchasing it.

The engine seems fine.  It is not leaking or burning oil.  The car runs well and seems to have a lot of power.  The engine seems fairly quiet.  I guarantee that the engine will pass a smog test.

I am not aware of any electrical problems.

The suspension seems good to me.

The wheels are real, (not hub-caps).

I have not seen any rust or dry-rot.

I am providing clear title to the vehicle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROBLEMS:

INTERIOR:  There are cosmetic issues on the interior, and I have shown some, but not all, of those issues in the pictures.  The issue includes rips, tears, curling, and missing pieces(s).  There are several narrow cracks in the top of the dashboard.  Pieces of the burl wood type cover on the dash are torn or missing.

CONVERTIBLE TOP:  When I bought the car, the previous owner told me that the top had just been replaced.  I later noticed that there was a piece of tape at the bottom of the rear window.  I do not know why and I have left it there.  I also noticed that one seam has opened a bit.  You can see the tape and the seam in the pictures.

TRANSMISSION:  The transmission is slightly slipping.

TIRES and WHEELS:  A wheel alignment is needed.  The front passenger side tire should be replaced immediately

OTHER PROBLEMS:  There may be other problems that I do not know about, and there are likely other rips, chips, and tears on the interior, but I have put the problems that I know about in this auction information.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The car is located in the Valley Glen area, (formerly a part of Van Nuys), of the San Fernando Valley, in Los Angeles, California:

If you are in the Southern California area:  You are welcome to come and see the car.  Please e-mail me to set-up a date and time.

If you are out of the area and want to transport the car:  If you purchase the car and want to arrange for the transportation, I will cooperate with the transport company to get the car to you, but you will have to pay for the transportation and you will be responsible for the car while it is in the process of being transported.  The car does not have current tags, so I cannot drive it on the street.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other than guaranteeing that the car will pass a smog test, the car is Sold AS-IS WHERE-IS.  No warranty and/or guarantees of any kind, (other than passing a smog test).  Car is running.  The car is not smoking or leaking.  Clear CA title on-hand.

I will accept a bank checks, personal checks, cash, and/or Pay-Pal.

Title and possession will not pass until after full payment has cleared.  Title and possesion will pass at the time the car is picked-up.

A $500 deposit must be paid within 24 hours of winning this auction.

The car must be picked-up within 10 days of full payment clearing.

If the car is not picked-up within 10 days of full payment clearing, commencing on the 11th day after full payment has cleared, I will charge $10 a day storage for each of the next 30 days.  Storage charges must be paid prior to title and possession passing to buyer.

If the car is not picked-up within 40 days of full payment clearing, then I will return any monies that I have received over the $500 deposit and the $300 for storage, and I will sell the car to someone else.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

PLEASE CONACT ME WITH ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU MIGHT HAVE BEFORE YOU BUY THIS CAR.

IF YOU WANT A PICTURE OF A PARTICULAR AREA, PLEASE LET ME KNOW, AND I WILL TAKE THE PICTURE AND POST IT TO THIS E-BAY AUCTION.

Thank you.

Junkyard Gem: 1987 Saab 900 4-Door Sedan

Sat, Jul 29 2023

Saab sold the original 900 in the United States from the 1979 through 1993 model years (followed by another few years of Opel Vectra-based 900s), and most of the 900s you'll find today are the higher-end models with 16-valve engines and/or turbochargers. Last year in this series, we saw a 900 Turbo and a 900 Turbo Convertible in Colorado car graveyards, and now it's time to take a look at a used-up Colorado 900 with the base 8-valve engine and few extras. The cheapest new 1987 Saab available here was the base three-door hatchback with 5-speed manual transmission, which had an MSRP of $14,395 (about $39,497 in 2023 dollars). If you wanted a new 900 with four doors that year, the price of admission started at $14,805 ($40,622 after inflation). That's the car we've got here. The engine is a 2.0-liter SOHC slant-four, the direct descendant of the engine originally developed in partnership with Triumph for use in the Saab 99 and Triumph Dolomite. The Triumph TR7 used members of this engine family as well. This engine was rated at 110 horsepower and 118 pound-feet. The naturally-aspirated 16-valve version in the '87 900S made 125 horses, while the 900 Turbo had 160 horsepower. The automatic transmission cost an extra $430 (about $1,180 now); most 900 buyers chose the five-on-the-floor manual. In fact, I have never documented a junked 1979-1993 Saab 900 with an automatic. This one came close to the 175,000-mile mark during its life. The paint is somewhat faded, but the interior looks good for a car this age. Its owner or owners took good care of it. The body has a few dents but no rust worth mentioning. If it had been a 900S or a 900 Turbo, it would have had a better chance of avoiding this fate. Saab's innovative technology for 1987 starts at around $15,000 and goes up to the $20,000,000 Viggen (the fighter plane, not the later hot-rod 9-3 that borrowed the Viggen name).

Want one of the last Saab 9-3s ever built? Here's your chance

Fri, Jun 7 2019

National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) purchased the assets of bankrupt Swedish automaker Saab in 2012. The next year, NEVS restarted production of the 9-3 sedan that lasted until 2014. In December 2013, the company pulled a silver 9-3 Aero Turbo from its pool of customer cars, intended for crash testing. The crash test never happened, and that silver sedan hung out at the factory for six years. Autocar writes that NEVS wants to find that Saab a good home, and will put it up for auction later this year. The model has a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 217 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque, shifted through a six-speed manual transmission. Other than the fact it's spent six years holed up in a Swedish factory, the condition is brand new - there are only 3.1 miles on the odometer. It's hard to predict what such a time capsule might go for. NEVS only built 420 units before ceasing production, so the 2013 9-3 Aero Turbo has rarity on its side. This isn't the only such Saab to roll out of the crypt recently, though. In 2017, a 2014 9-3 Aero popped up in the Netherlands with only 211 miles on the odo. In 2018, a 2011 diesel 9-3 SportCombi wagon with 56 miles on the odo broke through the space-time continuum in Italy. NEVS will put its 9-3 on display in Trollhattan this weekend during the annual Saab Car Museum Festival.

Greetings from Trollhattan. I'm Emily, but I'm not a Saab.

What’s Swedish for “never give up”? Saab, apparently. The fondly-remembered car company formerly called just that — and now named NEVS — is only a shell, employing just a limited crew in the land of trolls. But itÂ’s got something to sell, and that something seems like it's really something. ItÂ’s called Emily. The Emily GT exists as six prototype electric cars, according to NEVS, with a combined horsepower rating (per car) of 484 powered by an enormous 175-kilowatt lithium-ion battery thatÂ’s good for 600 miles of range. In development almost since Saab's demise — the company, once owned by General Motors, was closed down in 2010 — the Emily is a very real product and needs a real sponsor, according to NEVS CEO Nina Selander, speaking to Carup. “It is for sale, it is also a joy to be able to show it. It should be allowed to live on, itÂ’s too nice, too good and too modern a car for nothing to come of it. Interested parties are welcome,” she said. Photos of the car show a modern, forward-thrust profile with handsome lines, a look similar to the last Saab 9-5 and VolvoÂ’s S60 (must be a Swedish thing) and a fashionable, sci-fi-ish interior. A hopeful engineer on the project estimates that the car is less than two years away from some kind of series production, but according to the modest NEVS website, the company is currently in “hibernation” even as it continues to solicit buyers for the Emilys. Said Peter Dahl, the Emily project manager, “Many have asked us what we have been doing for 10 years. We have developed 13 different car projects, this is one of them.” Related video: Volvo Saab Automotive History Electric Future Vehicles Classics
