Selling my project SPG. I have been building this thing over the past few years and spared no expense in the process. I am selling her because I want to complete my vintage truck and boat combo. This project has 1,233 miles on rebuilt everything!  Pretty much every nut and bolt has been touched on this project- check the engine compartment photos!

I think the 1987 SPG is the most desirable year.  It has the facelift,  isn't compromised by the early style ABS/airbag system and features the more attractive steering wheel.  The AC has been updated to current standards (but not charged)  I did an axle swap so you'll have the rear E brake, bigger front calipers, and bolt pattern for the more attractive Saab wheels!

This is going to be one of the finest Saab specimens around when finished. It has a flashed ECU that boosts 18-20 psi and was very very (i.e. scary)  fast!!  (this is with the stock fuel settings). With a 3.0bar FPR, red top injectors and fuel mapping, this car could be well over 300HP at the wheels. I absolutely loved this project, but my heart has been captured by a new 1949 Chevy truck project.

In the build process almost everything was rebuilt or purchased new. Scanwest in Seattle rebuilt the transmission, the engine (new .030 pistons, head, etc.) as well as the front hub bearings and cv joints. There are 1,233 miles on the rebuilt car. All suspension bushings were replaced, new slave cylinder, wheel bearings, stage 1 spec clutch, resurfaced flywheel, injectors were cleaned, all new gaskets everywhere possible,  new hoses and even hose clamps...

I did the break in process for the engine but the rings did not seat properly. I am getting mild blow back through the dip stick tube, and blowing blue smoke. THE RINGS ARE BAD- but the engine does start and run.  After a basic ring job this baby will fly again!

This SPG has some very special upgrades on it-  an axle swap from a 90' spg, NEW calipers, rotors, pads, lines, 9000 aero rims powder coated 30% gloss black wrapped in BFG rubber, KONI red adjustable shocks on intrax springs(no longer available) with a combo of new poly and new rubber bushings. Wheel wells have been coated.  The suspension had an amazing ride for the 1,233 miles I drove it!

The SPG kit has been color matched to the body- includes the wheel arches, side vents, and whale tail. The whale tail is not currently installed, but is included with the sale and has been restored/fixed up.  It was painted 3 years ago in Saab lime yellow.  The headlights have PIAA bulbs, euro-clear corners, and the rear lights and fender lights have been smoked out to match the theme of the car.

I went with a thermal coated 3" downpipe with external TIAL wastegate- a custom FMIC set up that included NO cutting of the body and kept the AC.  Silicon lines and couplers. The intercooler is a Yonaka.  The battery (Optima red top) has been relocated to the rear of the car so the exhaust wont burn it.

The interior has been started but not finished.  The lower dash, carpet, and quarter panels have been finished in black.  The only thing missing from the project is the head liner.  Rear seats are in nice shape, the fronts need upholstery.  Has a leather shift boot, and I have the rare cassette holder for the center console.  All interior electronics work-  power windows, mirrors, etc.   I spent hours chasing down bad wires to ensure everything functions as designed.  The top dash is out.

I'll include tons of extra c900 parts! I have the title in hand, The SPG does sport a salvage title only because it was stolen (twice- I have the police reports!) before I bought it. This SPG has not been in an accident. Completely rust free body- rare for this era!

Throw some new rings in the car and have a driving project while the interior gets finished!  I have a stack of receipts and paper work, not to mention the original window sticker!  Feel free to ask any questions and request photos from me directly.  Call Matt 253-740-4233 with any questions. I want to make sure you know EXACTLY what you're getting and will enjoy this car/project as much as I have.  Will do everything I can on my end to assist shipping but you'll need to make the arrangements.

The winning bidder will need to make a non refundable $500 deposit within a day after the sale.

Spyker to appeal dismissal of Saab lawsuit against GM

Fri, 21 Jun 2013

It seems as if Spyker CEO Victor Muller has made a decision on whether or not to pursue a legal battle between his company and General Motors. Spyker has announced it will appeal a US District Court decision to throw out the company's lawsuit against GM. As you may recall, on June 10 Judge Gershwin Drain ruled tht GM had a right to approve or disapprove Spyker's sale of Saab to Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile. Spyker sued GM for some $3 billion, claiming that the American automaker had forced Saab into bankruptcy by stopping Spyker from transferring intellectual property to its Chinese partner.
Spyker has said only that it plans to appeal the decision. Until now, the company has been silent about the ruling. GM, meanwhile, has said it is pleased with the original outcome. You can read the quick Spyker press release below for more information.

New owners of Saab don't get to use the name

Tue, Feb 2 2016

Saab won't be revived as a Chinese-backed electric car brand. Aerospace and defense company Saab AB has declined to let the new owners of the dormant automaker's old designs and factory use the name on new cars, Automotive News reports. It's a blow to fans of the Swedish brand, who hoped the name would be revived on new vehicles coming out of the same factory as models like the 99 Turbo. National Electric Vehicle Sweden, known as NEVS, bought major assets of the Saab operation in 2012 following former parent Spyker's decision to liquidate the company in December 2011. This not only included the Trollhattan assembly plant in Sweden, but the rights to the Saab 9-3 and the platform of its successor. NEVS built some new 9-3s using leftover parts and powered by the old 2.0-liter turbo engines, with the intent to raise money to produce new electric vehicles for Europe and China – and to use the Saab name. When General Motors bought all of Saab Automobile in 2000, it used the name under license from the Saab AB. That permission was then passed to Spyker in 2010 and later NEVS, albeit without the griffin logo. But when NEVS sought creditor protection in 2014, Saab AB revoked the naming rights. Following reorganization, NEVS in August announced a deal with Dongfeng Motor Corp. to develop a new lineup of electric vehicles, which was revealed in December to include five new models by 2018, some assembled in China by 2020 – the first of which being an EV version of the old 9-3. However, Saab AB told Automotive News that discussions have ended regarding the use of the Saab name on these vehicles. NEVS owner Kai Johan Jiang told a Swedish radio station the company will find a new name to market the cars under when they go on sale. It's similar to what happened to SAIC when it purchased vehicle technology from bankrupt British carmaker MG Rover. While it had the tooling to essentially make the Rover 75, the brand name at the time belonged to BMW and barred SAIC from using it, so the Roewe brand was created in China. It's unclear why talks broke down and also where NEVS will get a new name (there aren't nicer ways to spell Saab, and it was originally an acronym, anyway). Will Saab AB attach its name to another line of cars? Probably not. What it does mean, however, is that Saab fans have to cling tighter to their old cars now. Perhaps that's for the best. Saab signs deal to sell 20,000 electric cars in China

Fri, Jan 15 2016

Another quarter, another gargantuan deal for National Electric Vehicle Sweden (Nevs), the Chinese-backed firm that bought the assets to Saab in 2012 and then spent two years getting out of financial trouble. The company just announced that it has agreed to a framework deal with China Volant Industry Co. (Volinco), a firm whose principal business is import and export of aerospace equipment and technologies. The tentative Volinco order is worth 8.5 billion Swedish crowns ($996 million US) for 20,000 electric cars that will be delivered between 2017 and 2020. A final purchase order is expected to be finalized later. In December, Nevs signed a deal worth $12 billion to provide 150,000 electric cars to Panda New Energy, a Chinese EV leasing company. That deal will also see Nevs provide 100,000 electric vehicle products and services to companies that Nevs works with. As with the Volinco deal, Nevs will build and paint components for its Saab 9-3 EV in Trollhattan, Sweden then ship the kits to China for final assembly. Given the number and size of its recent deals, it shouldn't be a surprise that Nevs is building a factory in Tianjin, China that will be ready in 2020. Volinco apparently plans to use the trove as company cars for employees. The final agreement will also include giving Nevs access to a range of the aerospace firm's suppliers to assist with its production plans. Nevs is also working with Dongfeng and Renesas Electronics to help develop its current and future cars.
