2011 SAAB 9-5 Turbo Biopower
Premium Package with Navigation - Many Options - $46,655 When New
Beautiful Granite Gray over Jet Black Leather Interior - One Owner (Me)
Just Over 7,500 Miles From New - Please Wait for All Photos to Load!

Offered here is my immaculate, freshly-detailed 2011 9-5 Turbo Biopower - the Biopower denotes that the 220bhp 2 Litre Turbo engine runs just as happily (if not more) on E85 as it does on Premium Unleaded. I purchased the car from a friend of mine last year - he is one of the last hold-out SAAB dealers still looking for new and nearly-new inventory around the USA; he had found this car still in the inventory of a former SAAB dealer in the midwest just a week prior to my acquisition of it last spring. Since I thought it might be one of the last new (45 miles on the clock on delivery) 9-5s with Premium and NAV in a pretty color, I bought it on the spot.

Over the last year, I have not used the car as much as I thought I would, and as such it has just over 7,500 careful miles. We took it up to the SAAB Owners Convention in upstate New York last summer where it and a small handful of other 9-5s were a big hit. Other than that, I've used it quite sparingly.

One of the nicest features of the 2011 9-5 is the panoramic sunroof, a feature not found on the first 9-5s in 2010.

The brilliant rear light treatment is no less attractive than the front...

... arguably one of the best rear ends on a production car in recent memory!

The Granite Gray metallic hue is an interesting one, in certain lights it appears quite blue.

The car is absolutely straight and as-new - not so much as a door ding.

All four wheels are unmarked.

The panoramic roof doesn't just look good closed, but the front portion opens up and out, the windscreen that pops up eliminates all wind noise.

If you don't want the roof open but want to enjoy the sunshine, there's plenty of it here.

Or with the touch of a button, close the shade.

The interior is very inviting and full of interesting features - all four windows go completely up or down at the touch of a button (one-touch).

The mirrors also fold in for tight parking spaces. If you're already outside the car, you can hold the lock button on the fob and it will do it that way as well.

The interior is likewise as-new - seats, dash and other interior appointments are all in lovely condition. This car does not have the heads-up display, for which new windshields are still not and may never be available again.

The center of the speedometer has multiple screens that can change with the controls on the left stalk. The steering wheel controls are for the cruise control (left) and the audio, hands-free phone and voice commands.

A shot of the tire pressure monitoring screen.

If E85 fuel is used, this screen will display the percentage of E85 in the tank against the E0/E10 (pump fuel).

Navigation was a rare option on these cars. The speedometer screen also has a Navigation quick reference when a course is plotted. Note also the dual heated seats, dual-zone climate control et.c. below.

The XM radio subscription is paid up for a while! A nice thing to have.

The radio also has an on-board hard drive with storage for lots of MP3s as seen here. There are also USB and 1/8" Aux inputs in the center cubby.

As you would expect from a 7,500 mile car, the seats are as-new. Both front seats have 8-way power and adjustable lumbar support. The central armrest is adjusted forward in this photo.

Inside on the right side...

Another shot of the dash...

The glovebox is climate controlled (see switch at top right) and on a hot day can serve as a refrigerator of a sort by sliding the switch.

Both transponder keys have fresh batteries. The car has remote start as you see here.

Original paperwork as seen here is comprehensive, including the window sticker.

Note the $2,395 Navigation option!

Tidy on this side as well.

Under the center armrest, a small compartment...

As well as a deep one with the USB and 1/8" jacks. Note also the central cupholder.

Let's take a look in the back!

The back seat offers a lot of legroom and the same comfort as the front. The rear seats fold down 60/40 with ease and offer an amazing amount of cargo space.

In the other side...

More of the same.

\

The overhead panel features a 3 button Homelink garage door opener as well as switches for the sunroof and sun-shade. Both of these offer one-touch operation like the power windows.

The trunk compartment is very spacious with the back seats up and offers a tremendous amount of cargo room with them down. In addition, there is also a pass-through door for skis or other long items that go through where the armrest is without lowering the seats.

The engine compartment is as clean as the day I took delivery. Park Ave did an synthetic oil service on the car about 3,000 miles ago. Oil Life Remaining per the instrument cluster indicates 77%.

payment/warranty/shipping

Full payment is expected within seven days of auction close unless cleared with me in advance. I cannot extend a loan to you as I am not a financial institution, so if you need a loan, please contact a bank or a loan company that specializes in automobile loans. If you need a loan, please don't bid before you have been approved for financing. Payment options include cash, cleared wire transfer or bank cheque in my account or a loan cheque, again, cleared in my account in the timeframe specified.

While the warranty mentioned on the above-pictured window sticker is not valid (all warranties for 2010-2011 Saabs were voided with the bankruptcy), I may be able to offer you the option of a SAAB Secure Warranty through my experienced former Saab dealer friend at an additional charge. Unlike a generic aftermarket warranty available from anyone, these are underwritten by Saab Parts North America and their financial partner. These warranties are honored by former Saab dealerships and other authorized service points as well as SPNA. I will put you in touch with him should you win the car and have interest in one of these. They are quite reasonable if this concerns you. I did not opt for one as I happen to think that these cars are quite bulletproof and according to numerous colleagues and friends who maintain many of these have not had major failures to necessitate a warranty.

Pickup in person or shipping should occur within fourteen days of auction close unless cleared with me in advance. I'm more than happy to refer you to both open and enclosed professional automotive shippers that I use regularly in my business but will not make the arrangements for you as this has caused confusion in the past.

I reserve the right to add a few miles to the car during the listing as I may use it a few times, offer a test-drive, et.c.

(While I am an automobile dealer and broker and you may have seen my ads before, this car is my own and I am selling it as a private person. There are no additional fees or paperwork, you will be buying this car from me directly.)

Saab has ruined all Swedish cars for me

Wed, Feb 10 2016

It's easy to dismiss my hatred of all Swedish automotive manufacturers as a simple result of bad experiences. I mean, we're all products of our own experiences, some we learn from, others we don't, and some we need to be hit over the head with time and time again. I've been hit over the head too many times with Saabs (and one lonely Volvo), and as a result, I can't bring myself to buy a Koenigsegg. It started with a 900 Turbo sedan. You know, the ugly duckling sister of the beautiful two-door coupe that spawned the Aero, which managed to look stunning from the front, and like a child with a full nappy (diaper) at the rear. I bought it at an auction (mistake number one) for $6,500 (AUD) because as a bloke in his early twenties, I wanted to be noticed – and a greasy-haired bespectacled musician driving a turbocharged Swedish luxury car was my way of standing out. On the drive home I noticed two things: one, it handled like it was on rails – it just gripped! And two, the turbo wasn't working. I took my new wheels to the mechanic, who promptly told me a custom exhaust system would solve the problem – mistake number two. During the fitting, Mr. Shonky's Repair Shop managed to fry some computer thingy. I won't try to remember or understand what it was, but he did tell me that it should have been replaced and that I would have to pay for it. I agreed. Mistake number three. Twelve months later I had spent more than double the original purchase price on repairs, and the turbo still wouldn't work. I sold it for about $4,000, and moved on to something more sensible. But the beautiful handling and quirky design had left an itch that I just couldn't scratch. Many cars and motorbikes later, I sold my Mazda RX-8 because it was too perfect. You know those cars that have spotless paint, an unmarked interior, low kilometers, and you're just too damn scared to park it anywhere? Yep, it was one of those. I would spend 30 to 40 minutes trying to find a vacant spot with vacant spots on either side, and even after leaving the car I would walk back to check if anyone had parked next to me. If they did, I moved. Not a low-anxiety vehicle. So I bought my second Saab – this time a 9-5 turbo wagon – from an auction. Wasn't that mistake number one? This one had reasonably low kilometers, and was even on LPG (a fairly common conversion is Australia – just not on Saabs) and only set me back $2,200. I drove it home, and low and behold, the turbo worked!

Spyker's $3B lawsuit against GM for blocking Saab sale thrown out

Tue, 11 Jun 2013

US District Judge Gershwin Drain has dismissed a $3-billion lawsuit Spyker filed against General Motors. In the suit, Spyker accused GM of attempting to bankrupt Saab after the US automaker had already sold the company to Spyker. GM in effect blocked the sale of Saab to China's Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Company by prohibiting the transfer of some of its intellectual property. But the court found that GM had a "contractual right" to approve or disapprove any change of ownership. Furthermore, Reuters reports Judge Drain said the contract between GM and Spyker "is clear, unambiguous and absolute" on the matter.
GM, meanwhile, says it is pleased with the ruling. Spyker CEO Victor Muller has not said whether or not his company will appeal the ruling. The Dutch automaker is expected to make a final decision once the court issues its written order on the case.
You can read the official Spyker press release about the court ruling below for more information.

Ultra-rare 2011 Saab 9-4X up for grabs on Cars & Bids

Sun, Aug 1 2021

Saab's sad saga is full of might-have-beens and missed opportunities. As the 21st century dawned, it became clear that the Saab brand could not survive without an SUV in its lineup. In 2005, the 9-2X, a badge-engineered Subaru Impreza Outback Sport, was rushed into production (GM being a part-owner of Subaru parent company Fuji Heavy Industries at the time). That same year same GM also put a new nose on the distinctly mediocre Chevrolet TrailBlazer and peddle that as the Saab 9-7X. The last of the GM-based Saab SUVs was the 9-4X, which was mechanically twinned with the second-generation Cadillac SRX and built alongside it in Mexico. By the time the model was introduced for 2011, GM had already off-loaded Saab. But the new ownership would be short-lived, and production of the 9-4X ended after only a handful of 2012 models had rolled down the line. It's believed that a total of only 803 9-4Xs were built, of which 622 were sold in the United States, which explains why you haven't seen one lately. Or, perhaps, ever. But now you can buy one, as this 2011 example is available right now on Cars & Bids. This is a top-spec Aero version, which means it gets a turbocharged 2.8-liter V6 and the Saab-developed X-drive all-wheel drive, rather than the naturally aspirated 3.0-liter V6 in the base and Premium trims. That gives you 300 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, although this one sports a VTuner Stage 0 tune, so it could have more. With five days still to go, bidding stands at $8,500. For the Saab fans out there, don't let this be another missed opportunity. Related Video: Saab 9-4X concept introduced at Detroit Auto Show
