2002 Saab 9-5 Aero 5 Speed - 76k Miles on 2040-cars

Year:2002 Mileage:76214
Location:

Annapolis, Maryland, United States

Annapolis, Maryland, United States

Very nice 2002 9-5 Aero.  Black with dark gray interior, 2.3 liter, 250 hp , 5 speed trans.

Recently  purchased from the first owner for my daughter to replace her now defunct 9-3 Arc. After taking care of a few needs and having it Maryland inspected (very rigorous ) we realized that the previous owner had whited out a mistake (wrong sig. line) and we would need a new title. While waiting for the duplicate title there was a change of heart and now I'm looking for another 9-3 for her. In all fairness I may have influenced the decision since I love the Aero/5 speed (my sister has almost the exact car in Santa Barbara).  If you have a nice 2004+  low mileage 9-3 I would consider some kind of trade deal.

Body and paint are very nice. There are a few very small door dings and chips and the front spoiler and the rear bumper have been painted. A small area is peeling ( clearcoat) on the rear cover ( see pics). That said it is a very sharp looking car.

Interior is excellent, no rips, tears, scuffs or funky smells. Floor mats are OK but starting to show their age. No perceptible wear on buttons or controls and the SID is perfect.

No warning lights, everything works. Tight suspension and steering, brakes are new in rear, almost new at the front, shifts smoothly with strong clutch and no synchro issues.

DI cassette, SID, latest PCV update  and crank sensor had been replaced before I bought the car. I replaced the rear rotors and pads, the battery, intermediate flex pipe and changed the oil ( Mobil 1) and filter.

Drives beautifully, handles great, plenty of power but still gets 30+ mpg on the highway.

For sale locally so I will cancel this listing if it sells before the reserve has been reached. Questions welcomed.

NEV deal to buy Saab delayed

Fri, 03 Aug 2012

Remember a month and a half ago when we told you that Saab will "soldier on?" Well, we should have written "stand at attention."
According to SaabsUnited, the deal for National Electric Vehicle Sweden to buy the remaining Saab assets didn't close on schedule. In fact, it's been delayed by "a month, perhaps more." NEVS also seems to have indicated that it's not going to be answering any more questions about the deal until it's completed.
NEVS is supposedly planning on building electric cars based on the design that would have been the next-generation 9-3. The company itself is a partnership between a Chinese energy company and a Japanese investment group.

Saab restarts production line in Trollh"attan

Thu, 19 Sep 2013

The new owner of Saab, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has bolted together its first two new cars at the company's traditional home in Trollhättan. The two 9-3 sedans were built to work bugs out of the production line and test newer components before full-scale production starts near the end of the year.
NEVS acting President, Mattias Bergman, issued a statement saying, "Prior to our decision to start production of Saab cars, we need to finalize a few remaining dialogues to build partnerships with suppliers. We now know that the plant is ready for production." First up for NEVS will be gas-powered, turbocharged 9-3s, before bringing a facelifted, electrified variant later next year. There are also plans to rejigger Saab's never-was Phoenix architecture for production, although NEVS needs to excise the remaining General Motors tech from the platform before building anything.
According to a report on Automotive News Europe, once under way, NEVS has set an optimistic target of 120,000 units per year by 2016, with sales focused in Europe and China - there's no official word on if NEVS ever plans to bring the Saab name back to North America.

National Electric Vehicle stops Saab 9-3 production amidst financing woes

Tue, 20 May 2014

It seems that quirky, Swedish automaker Saab might be on life support yet again. Its owner, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has announced that it's reducing its workforce and temporarily halting production of the 9-3 due to financial problems. NEVS was only building six cars a day, anyway.
The company put out a press release admitting its economic woes, but it still appeared hopeful. NEVS claims it's developing "a new platform on the Phoenix architecture," and it has a frame agreement with an international automotive OEM. It didn't give any specific details about either one of these assertions though. According to The Wall Street Journal, NEVS needs the partnership to lower development costs in order to stay afloat. Saab spokesperson Mikael Ostlund told Autoblog in an email that the stop in production of the 9-3 in Trollhättan would last four weeks.
NEVS says it's in negotiation to sell a portion of the company to an automotive company. Its current monetary woes are caused by shareholder Qingbo Investment Company not financing the company as agreed. "We plan to have the results of the discussions at latest during June," said Ostlund.
