2002 Saab 9-5 Aero 5 Speed - 76k Miles on 2040-cars
Annapolis, Maryland, United States
Very nice 2002 9-5 Aero. Black with dark gray interior, 2.3 liter, 250 hp , 5 speed trans.
Recently purchased from the first owner for my daughter to replace her now defunct 9-3 Arc. After taking care of a few needs and having it Maryland inspected (very rigorous ) we realized that the previous owner had whited out a mistake (wrong sig. line) and we would need a new title. While waiting for the duplicate title there was a change of heart and now I'm looking for another 9-3 for her. In all fairness I may have influenced the decision since I love the Aero/5 speed (my sister has almost the exact car in Santa Barbara). If you have a nice 2004+ low mileage 9-3 I would consider some kind of trade deal. Body and paint are very nice. There are a few very small door dings and chips and the front spoiler and the rear bumper have been painted. A small area is peeling ( clearcoat) on the rear cover ( see pics). That said it is a very sharp looking car. Interior is excellent, no rips, tears, scuffs or funky smells. Floor mats are OK but starting to show their age. No perceptible wear on buttons or controls and the SID is perfect. No warning lights, everything works. Tight suspension and steering, brakes are new in rear, almost new at the front, shifts smoothly with strong clutch and no synchro issues. DI cassette, SID, latest PCV update and crank sensor had been replaced before I bought the car. I replaced the rear rotors and pads, the battery, intermediate flex pipe and changed the oil ( Mobil 1) and filter. Drives beautifully, handles great, plenty of power but still gets 30+ mpg on the highway. For sale locally so I will cancel this listing if it sells before the reserve has been reached. Questions welcomed. |

Spyker to appeal dismissal of Saab lawsuit against GM
Fri, 21 Jun 2013It seems as if Spyker CEO Victor Muller has made a decision on whether or not to pursue a legal battle between his company and General Motors. Spyker has announced it will appeal a US District Court decision to throw out the company's lawsuit against GM. As you may recall, on June 10 Judge Gershwin Drain ruled tht GM had a right to approve or disapprove Spyker's sale of Saab to Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile. Spyker sued GM for some $3 billion, claiming that the American automaker had forced Saab into bankruptcy by stopping Spyker from transferring intellectual property to its Chinese partner.
Spyker has said only that it plans to appeal the decision. Until now, the company has been silent about the ruling. GM, meanwhile, has said it is pleased with the original outcome. You can read the quick Spyker press release below for more information.
Nicolas Cage flogs Saab-based Senova from Beijing Auto [w/video]
Mon, 13 May 2013BAIC has officially pulled the covers off of its new Senova D Series sedan for China. The four-door is based on the old Saab 9-5 and boasts a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. Local buyers can get their hands on the machine for around $22,745 at current conversion rates. Other engine options include a turbocharged 1.8-liter four cylinder as well as turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder, and a wide range of safety equipment comes standard on every trim except the very base model. Those goodies include a tire pressure monitoring system, active head restraints, blind spot detection, driver fatigue detection and parking sensors.
The Senova nameplate serves every model based on former Saab architectures, including the Epsilon, GM2900 and GM2400 platforms as well as engine and transmission tech. In order to promote its new products, BAIC has hired Hollywood staple Nicolas Cage to serve as the company's brand ambassador. Cage stars in the Senova-heavy Town of Car Legends action-packed video short (directed by Olivier Megaton of Transporter 3 and Taken 2 fame) which you can view by scrolling below.
Future Classic: 1999-2002 Saab 9-3 Viggen
Mon, Jan 30 2023Given the company’s now-defunct status, you could argue that all Saabs are future classics. Even the final round of cars from the era of General Motors ownership deserve their place in history. Seriously, how hot was the last 9-5? Handsome design and quirky features were hallmarks of the Saab brand, and its cars felt every bit as premium as its primary European competitors. But while other luxury carmakers put great effort into full lineups of performance cars, Sweden only produced the odd sporty Saab every once in a while. One of our favorites was the 9-3 Viggen from the turn of the century, and itÂ’s a car that still makes us swoon today. Why is the Saab 9-3 Viggen a future classic? Saab's whole "born from jets" tagline never really made much sense, but at least the 9-3 Viggen's name was a nod to the company's aerospace roots. The Swedish word "Viggen" translates to "thunderbolt" in English, and this name was used on the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft that entered service in the early 1970s. MotorWeek | Retro Review: '99 Saab Viggen The 9-3 Viggen used a turbocharged 2.3-liter inline-four engine, most notably remembered for its eyebrow-raising 20 psi of boost pressure. Rated at 225 horsepower – which was later bumped up to 230 hp – and 252 pound-feet of torque, this engine was paired exclusively with a five-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. Stiffer suspension components, firmer dampers, stronger driveshafts, a heavy-duty clutch and a revised exhaust were also part of the package. The Viggen was relatively quick, with Saab quoting a 0-to-60-mph time of around 6.5 seconds. However, the 9-3 Viggen is largely remembered for things like its ridiculous turbo lag and torque steer – characteristics that kind of made this car hilarious to drive, even if they took away from overall sharpness and composure. What is the ideal example of the Saab 9-3 Viggen? Saab offered the 9-3 Viggen as a three-door hatchback, five-door hatchback and two-door convertible. And while this car is most commonly remembered in its launch shade, Lightning Blue, Saab offered the Viggen in black, gray, red, silver and yellow. You could even spec the interior with blue, orange or tan leather accents. Arguably the most iconic 9-3 Viggen spec is a Lightning Blue three-door hatch, but the other colors are far more rare. WeÂ’ve got a major soft spot for a Monte Carlo Yellow five-door, but really, you canÂ’t go wrong.
