Please read the description fully and ensure that you can meet the obligations of this auction before bidding.  This car is less than 20 years old and it has not been Maryland State Inspected, therefore it can only be sold to a non-Maryland resident.

This car has been a wonderful surprise. This was my first Saab, I had never had one before because they have a stigma of being under-powered, problem-riddled vehicles, but after now having had one and driving it around for myself, I think this stereotype is really unfounded. I'm definitely not the only one to be presently surprised with their Saab, as can be seen with a quick check of this vehicle on Edmonds.com, where the 222 reviews gave the car an average rating of 4.5/5 stars. Even with the higher mileage, this car has shown me that Saab can produce a high quality, durable vehicle that can really perform. The engine and turbo in this vehicle are strong and provide great pickup whenever you want it. The car rides smooth like a similarly aged Mercedes E-class, but without all that weight the car is way more responsive, much more of a driver's car. The expanded sunroof also provides a huge window up and makes drives around twisty roads that much more enjoyable. This car is not new, it has been driven plenty and has a couple marks to show for it, namely the credit-card sized spot on the hood that has lost the protecting seal on the paint and also on the driver's door near the front fender where it has a small dent, but the car was clearly respected and taken good care of by the previous owner's and myself.

I have an unwritten rule of not keeping any office vehicle for more than one month, and sadly my time with this Saab has run out, but after this experience, I will now be keeping my eyes out for more Saabs to enjoy. The result of the one-month rule is that someone will be getting a great vehicle at what I suspect will be a very reasonable price. As you can see from the condition description, there are some little detractors from the car, it's not in pristine condition, but take a good look at the pictures and condition description and you will see the problems are minor and inexpensive fixes. The only difficult fix may be the air-conditioner, which was over-filled with Freon by the previous owner. The excess pressure has been drained and the mechanic who we go to for A/C said the increased pressure likely caused the malfunction and some new bearings and seals would be the least expensive fix, though it may require a new compressor. The mechanic seemed convinced that the bearings and seals will likely fix the problem (~$140), but it may need more and I want to be straight up about the possibilities, no surprises. That being said, the faults in the car are very minor, while  the key components of the vehicle, the engine, turbo, drive train,  are strong and ready for the road. You'll be surprised just as I was that first time you go to make a pass, push the gas, hear the turbo spool up and get pushed into your seat by the sprite little 2.0L. This car was really delight to drive and I'll be happy to pass it along to the next person who never new a Saab was like this.

GM denies Spyker claims in $3B Saab lawsuit

Tue, 02 Oct 2012

Reuters reports General Motors has dismissed claims by Spyker outlined in a $3 billion lawsuit. Spyker alleged GM deliberately bankrupted Saab by preventing a deal with Chinese investor Zhejiang Youngman Lotus. GM, meanwhile, filed a response with the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan saying that as the former owner of Saab, GM had the legal right to approve the deal with Youngman. But Spyker's lawsuit claimed GM's refusal to approve the deal with Youngman stemmed from the fact that the American automaker didn't want to create a competitor in China.
GM has said the issue stemmed more from the fact that it would stop licensing its technology to Saab or stop building vehicles for the manufacturer in the event it was bought by Youngman. Since Saab built its own platform that didn't use any GM tech, Spyker says that argument is meritless.
The lawsuit has Spyker seeking $3 billion in compensatory damages, though that number could swell with interest, punitive damages and legal fees, as well. Victor Muller, Spyker chief executive, has said the lawsuit is being funded by an anonymous third party. That party will share in any settlement. Youngman has refused to comment on whether or not it's footing the legal bill.

Former Saab chairman Muller faces summons in tax inquiry

Thu, 23 May 2013

Former Saab Chairman Victor Muller may be called in for questioning as part of an official inquiry into suspected tax evasion by three of the automaker's former executives. A prosecutor has officially named former CEO Jan-Ake Jonsson and two other executives in the investigation, and official court documents say that Muller will be called in by the Financial Crimes Unit. According to Reuters, prosecutors are currently looking into allegations that the executives worked to dodge taxes between 2010 and 2011, when the automaker finally went into bankruptcy.
The Truth About Cars reports the investigation may center around the $540,000 paid as consulting fees to Latin America Tug Holding NV, a company Muller owns. It's possible that the Swedish authorities believe the Saab executives were using the tug boat company as a tax haven, and that the automaker should have paid taxes and social security contributions on the money. Muller has not been charged.
Meanwhile, Muller is defending his earnings in a new interview with Automotive News. Having come under fire for his $773,000 salary at Saab, the Spyker CEO said his pay was commensurate with an executive running a company with 4,000 employees.

Saab didn't want this electric, 99-like delivery van from the 1970s

Mon, Mar 30 2020

National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) purchased the remains of Saab in 2012 to turn it into an electric-only brand. While its vast heritage is turbocharged and rooted in racing, Saab didn't shy away from dabbling in battery-powered drivetrains, and there's an experimental mail delivery van in its official museum to prove it. The name Saab in the last paragraph should be followed by an asterisk. The prototype kind of looks like a 99 when viewed from the front, and it wears the soccer ball-style alloy wheels seen on several of the brand's models during the 1970s, but the museum's curator told Autoblog it was built in Linkoping, Sweden, by the company's defense and plane-making division. It's certainly a Saab, but not quite the kind you're likely thinking of. Engineers began the project in the early 1970s, at about the same time archrival Volvo launched its own experiments in the field of electrification. The idea was to create an electric, short-range distribution van that could be used by Sweden's postal service, for example. Two prototypes were built in 1975 and 1976, including the example in the museum, and each had a low-speed driving range of about 40 miles. Additional technical specifications are lost to history, partly because Saab's car-building division in Trollhattan -- the folks that developed the 99 and the 900, among others -- didn't like the van at all and wanted nothing to do with it. Saab electric van prototype View 2 Photos We peeked inside and under it and spotted a bulky, lead-acid battery pack integrated into a tray that could be pulled out from the back after flipping up the panel onto which part of the rear bumper was mounted. This layout was relatively common in early electric prototypes, like the Bus that Volkswagen developed in 1972 and tested in select German cities. Recharging the battery pack took hours, so swapping it out was considered the more practical alternative. Period documents and images confirm the electronics were mounted under the hood. Saab made two electric prototypes, including one it fitted with front-end parts like headlights (complete with wipers), turn signals, and a plastic grille from a 99. The second wore round headlights, bullet-shaped turn signals, and looked more like something you'd see in an episode of "Scooby Doo" than what you'd find in a Saab showroom. The van's resemblance to the 99 was purely artificial; it was its own thing, on its own chassis.
