2003 Saab 9-3 Arc (108k Miles) Being Sold To Benefit Shoe4africa on 2040-cars

Year:2003 Mileage:108300
Location:

New York, New York, United States

New York, New York, United States

I am selling my 2003 Saab 9-3 in to benefit a charity that I support.

 The Charity

Shoe4Africa is a 501c3 charity that supports many effective health and education programs in eastern Africa and is currently tackling our most ambitious project to date; building the first public pediatric hospital in sub-Saharan Africa.  This project seeks to address the woefully deficient basic health care needs in a region that is vastly underserved:

  • One in eight children will die before their fifth year
  • 2/3rds of these deaths are completely treatable or preventable
  • 80% of those who die will never see a doctor or nurse in their short lives

Groundbreaking on the hospital has begun and the process of raising money to pay for the construction and hospital equipment continues.  If you are moved to help us and need a car, please read on!

 The Car

2003 Saab 9-3 (ARC) with 108K miles.  The car is well equipped with amenities (6 disk CD changer, moon roof, power heated leather seats etc) and is in very good shape.  There are a few minor scratches in the paint as you would expect with a 10 year old car but it looks good and drives well.  I am the original owner (and have a clean title) and have taken good care of the car performing all scheduled maintenance and oil changes.   The only know defects are:

  • Fuel gauge is temperamental so I use the trip Odometer to track when it is time to fill the tank
  • The air conditioning stopped working last summer and probably needs a recharge.

Other than these two minor items, the car is fun to drive and gets good mileage.  The car currently has the winter tires and rims installed.  Also included are a set of alloy rims and tires in good condition, and the Thule roof rack system with bicycle rails and a Thule SportRack Roof Box.

Why am I selling the car

When I moved back to NYC a few years ago, it quickly became obvious that I really do not need a car any longer.  NYC has excellent public transportation and bicycle infrastructure that makes getting around without a car quite convenient and easy.  As a result, the car spends most of its time in a garage and is driven only a few times per month.  While it is nice to have a car for the convenience, I am aware that it is an extravagance that is unnecessary.  At the same time I enjoy the convenience of having my Saab, I support a charity that is building a pediatric hospital for those who have zero access to health care.   I have come to realize that my convenience is considerably less important than the basic needs of children in eastern Africa.    It is with this thought that I am donating my car to help fund the hospital.  100% of the purchase price of this car will go directly to the charity.

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Saab 900 Turbo

Fri, May 31 2019

The Saab 900 sold well in Colorado, and owners of these cars tend to hang onto them for decades. For those reasons, I still find 900s while making my rounds of the self-service wrecking yards in the Denver region. The turbocharged models tended to fail more quickly than their naturally-aspirated counterparts, though, so the 900 Turbo can be tough to find today. Here's a 1986 that took its final tow-truck ride into a Denver yard a couple of months back. The 900 received a makeover for the 1987 model year, so today's Junkyard Gem comes from the final year of the 900 with the endearingly 1960s face derived from its 99 predecessor. Most of these cars didn't chug along for quite as many miles as their Volvo 240 countrymen, but that may be attributable more to the differences in driving style between Volvo and Saab owners. The word TURBO had magical connotations during the 1980s, and so most turbocharged cars of the era boasted big, obvious badging. Red car interiors were all the rage during the 1980s and 1990s. Try to imagine the vivid bordellitude of this upholstery before it faded beneath the blazing Colorado sun. Was it a runner when it arrived here? We'll never know. Born from jets, sure, though the original Saab jet was known as "the Flying Barrel" and wasn't especially graceful-looking. GM recalling 524k vehicles over hood latches and toe link nuts

Fri, 03 Oct 2014

Just hours after confirming to Autoblog its intention to recall 97,540 vehicles in the US (117,651 in North America) for a possible manufacturing defect in the chassis control module of several models, General Motors is issuing two more campaigns that affect another 379,401 units in the US (524,384 in North America).
One campaign covers 290,107 US examples of the 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and the 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X because the "rear toe link adjuster lock nuts" may be improperly torqued. If not up to spec, the toe adjuster link could separate and allow the wheel to shift while driving, making the handling unstable. GM says that it knows of three crashes and two injuries as a result of this problem. Dealers are inspecting the nuts and installing a new link assembly, if necessary. Autoblog first reported about this potential issue when it showed up on a list of recalls from Transport Canada.
The second recall is for 89,294 examples of the 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark in the US manufactured from January 17, 2012, through July 29, 2014. According to GM, "corrosion can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position." If this happens, and the primary latch also isn't engaged for some reason, the hood could fly open while driving. About 13,000 of these affected Sparks are at dealers and are being held until repaired. The fix requires replacing the hood striker. GM isn't aware of crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this problem.

Autoblog sell-it-yourself highlight: 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon

Tue, Apr 25 2017

Want to sell your car? We make it safe, easy and free. Quickly create listings with up to 6 photos. Reach - literally - millions of buyers. Log in and create your free listings. In a recent Autoblog sampling of 10 pre-owned choices at least 10 years old and selling for under $10K, an Autoblog editor gave a shout-out to Saab's 9-5. And who could blame him? Despite its departure from the US market and subsequent closure as an automaker, Saab's brand still resonates among a committed core of enthusiasts. The Saab 9-5, available in both sedan and wagon variants, was the upper model of a two-model lineup; the 9-3 sedan sat below it, while the GM-sourced 9-7 SUV didn't appear until 2005. Both the sedan and wagon 9-5 were surprisingly roomy, and the Aero variant, pictured here, incredibly fast. This for-sale example, located in North Carolina, is at 176,000 miles a well-used example in need of (at least) a repaint. But this is the perfect color combination, plus a combo of sport and utility. Buy it for around $2K, hold another $5,000 in reserve to cover the obvious needs, and you can enjoy a distinctive piece of practical and powerful transportation. Related Video:
