2002 Saab 9-3 HIGH PERFORMANCE VIGGEN CONVERTIBLE!
THIS CAR IS IN AMAZING CONDITION WITH 78K ORIGINAL MILES!! ONLY 322 PRODUCED!
A high-powered version of the Saab 9-3 was the "Viggen" (English: Thunderbolt). It was named after the Saab 37 Viggen aircraft.
It came with a turbocharged 2.3 L engine, (B235R) giving 230 bhp (172 kW; 233 PS) on 1.4 bar (20 psi) of boost from its Mitsubishi TD04-HL15-5 turbocharger. Acceleration from 0–100 km/h could be reached in 6.4 seconds and the top speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h (160 mph). To provide and handle the high power and performance, the following elements were changed/modified:
- Higher capacity intercooler
- Higher performance tuned ECU
- Larger flow-through exhaust system
- Heavy duty clutch and pressure plate
- Stiffened and lowered springs
- Firmer dampers
- Stronger CV joints and driveshafts
Forty-six hundred Viggens were manufactured, of which only 500 units were produced for the UK market.
Production summary:
Compliments of SAAB USA:
These numbers represent the total number of each body style Viggen imported into the USA:
- 1999: 3-door > 426| 420 Blue| 2 Silver |2 Monte Carlo Yellow |2 Black
- 2000: Convertible > 245, 3-door > 138, 5-door > 421
- 2001: Convertible > 738, 3-door > 129, 5-door > 285
- 2002: Convertible > 322, 3-door > 71, 5-door > 157
In 1999, the Viggen was the first 9-3 to use Saab's Trionic 7 engine management system, which processes 2 million calculations every second analysing combustion temperature, boost control, variable torque curves and many other critical engine processes. In addition, the 2001 model year introduced a Traction Control System (TCS) to the Viggen.
In addition to extra power and torque, it also featured a special rear wing (increasing the downforce by 50%) requiring relocation of the radio antenna, aerodynamically designed bumpers and side skirts reducing the drag coefficient by 8%, specially bolstered and colored leather seats (available in four colors: black with black inserts (charcoal), black with blue inserts (deep blue), black with orange inserts (flame ochre), and tan with tan inserts), sportier suspension, bigger wheels, upgraded brakes, and other upgraded parts.
The Viggen was only available with a five-speed manual transmission, CD player, power moonroof, and (what were initially) Viggen-specific motorized and heated leather seats with the Viggen delta logo embossed in the backrest; these were later also available in the Aero model (U.S. market 'SE' model) without the embossed Viggen logo.

All vehicles are sold "AS-IS, WHERE-IS." No warranty is expressed, written or implied from the seller whatsoever; however, there may be a manufacturers’ factory warranty remaining on the vehicle. The seller shall not be responsible for the correct description, authenticity, genuineness, or defects herein, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance or set aside will be made on account of any incorrectness, imperfection, defect or damage. Any descriptions or representations are for identification purposes only and are not to be construed as a warranty of any type. It is the responsibility of the buyer to have thoroughly inspected the vehicle, and to have satisfied himself as to the condition and value of this vehicle and to bid based upon that judgment solely.
Pre-sale inspections are not only welcome, but are recommended and encouraged. We will make every available effort to accommodate a time for either you or a certified mechanic of your choice to inspect this vehicle at our location. Please have all inspections done prior to bidding. Inspections companies are listed on our page and easily found on the web as well as within eBay. The seller shall and will make every reasonable effort to disclose any known defects associated with this vehicle at the buyer's request prior to the close of sale. Seller assumes no responsibility for any repairs regardless of any oral statements about the vehicle. Please remember the age of the unit that you are purchasing and expect to spend for repairs accordingly.
If you have any questions about this vehicle - please ASK. Never assume anything not listed is included. We reserve the right to end this listing if the vehicle is no longer available for sale and to notify bidders and cancel this auction at any time. Additionally, we reserve the right to cancel bids placed from those with excessive negative feedbacks or zero feedbacks.
PLEASE be realistic and realize that these are used vehicles and although we only buy the cleanest cars available, a nick or chip is always possible. All used cars including this one may have dings, nicks and chips, scratches and any other marks that are associated with use consistent with the age and mileage of the vehicle. Obviously, a car that is 10 years old will show more wear and have more flaws than one that is only 2 years old. Classic cars will show difference in their condition based on whether original or restored expect normal wear and tear. Most cars are sold at wholesale prices, many, way below book prices. Therefore, there is minimum profit, especially on "no reserve" auctions. As such, we cannot afford to warranty the vehicle as if you had purchased it for full list price. We strongly recommend that all buyers purchase the Extended Service Warranty (available on most cars). This will help defray the cost of mechanical repairs should any become necessary in the future.
Remember some of these cars are near a decade old and they may be new to you, but that does not change the fact that they are used vehicles and repairs may be needed at any time regardless of how short a time period you have owned the car. All basic maintenance should be done to start off from scratch with your new vehicle we will check all fluids. While we try to service any known defects it is always possible for any used vehicles to need service or repairs in the first days or weeks of ownership; NOT likely, but possible! Since these vehicles are used, please remember that books, extra keys, remote entry keys, CD cartridges, etc....do not always remain with the vehicle throughout their life. We will not be responsible for these minor accessories. These items are all replaceable at any local Factory Dealer or here on eBay for a few dollars.
Placing your bid on this auction constitutes your agreement and acceptance of these terms and conditions. In addition, all non paying bidders will be held liable for a $500.00 re-listing fee that, if not paid, WILL be filed with all 3 major credit bureaus.
ONLY BID WHAT YOU ARE WILLING TO PAY. IF A RESERVE IS PLACED AND NOT MET, WE MAY CONTACT THE NEXT HIGHEST BIDDER TO OFFER A SECOND CHANCE OPTION.

Autoblog sell-it-yourself highlight: 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon
Tue, Apr 25 2017Want to sell your car? We make it safe, easy and free. Quickly create listings with up to 6 photos. Reach - literally - millions of buyers. Log in and create your free listings. In a recent Autoblog sampling of 10 pre-owned choices at least 10 years old and selling for under $10K, an Autoblog editor gave a shout-out to Saab's 9-5. And who could blame him? Despite its departure from the US market and subsequent closure as an automaker, Saab's brand still resonates among a committed core of enthusiasts. The Saab 9-5, available in both sedan and wagon variants, was the upper model of a two-model lineup; the 9-3 sedan sat below it, while the GM-sourced 9-7 SUV didn't appear until 2005. Both the sedan and wagon 9-5 were surprisingly roomy, and the Aero variant, pictured here, incredibly fast. This for-sale example, located in North Carolina, is at 176,000 miles a well-used example in need of (at least) a repaint. But this is the perfect color combination, plus a combo of sport and utility. Buy it for around $2K, hold another $5,000 in reserve to cover the obvious needs, and you can enjoy a distinctive piece of practical and powerful transportation. Related Video:
GM recalling 524k vehicles over hood latches and toe link nuts
Fri, 03 Oct 2014Just hours after confirming to Autoblog its intention to recall 97,540 vehicles in the US (117,651 in North America) for a possible manufacturing defect in the chassis control module of several models, General Motors is issuing two more campaigns that affect another 379,401 units in the US (524,384 in North America).
One campaign covers 290,107 US examples of the 2010-2015 Cadillac SRX and the 2011-2012 Saab 9-4X because the "rear toe link adjuster lock nuts" may be improperly torqued. If not up to spec, the toe adjuster link could separate and allow the wheel to shift while driving, making the handling unstable. GM says that it knows of three crashes and two injuries as a result of this problem. Dealers are inspecting the nuts and installing a new link assembly, if necessary. Autoblog first reported about this potential issue when it showed up on a list of recalls from Transport Canada.
The second recall is for 89,294 examples of the 2013-2015 Chevrolet Spark in the US manufactured from January 17, 2012, through July 29, 2014. According to GM, "corrosion can cause the secondary hood latch striker to stick in the open position." If this happens, and the primary latch also isn't engaged for some reason, the hood could fly open while driving. About 13,000 of these affected Sparks are at dealers and are being held until repaired. The fix requires replacing the hood striker. GM isn't aware of crashes, injuries or fatalities caused by this problem.
The Saab 9-3 that never was finally shows up
Fri, 22 Feb 2013Looking back on the life and [slow and painful] death of Saab, it's impossible to not stop and think of what might have been with the quirky Swedish automaker. As it turns out, SaabsUnited has decided to shed some light on what the company's future might have looked like, including some images and information that include full-scale mockups of the 9-3 Phoenix, which you see above.
In its waning years, Saab's lead designer Jason Castriota was working feverishly to deliver new products that built on the heritage of the brand while doing so at a lower cost and in a shorter time period than previous models. In the end, though, it sounds like the earliest that we could have seen any of these plans come to fruition was 2014. In addition to hatchback and convertible 9-3 variants, Castriota also created the Sonnett - a sporty-looking 2+2 that never made it past the design study phase.
Regardless of whether you're a diehard fan of the brand or if you were just pulling for the underdog, you'll want to head on over to SaabsUnited to check out a little more of what the future could have held for Saab.
