Up for sale is my 2001 SAAB 9-3 Viggen Convertible. I never thought I would let this one go but a classic restoration has all my interest so my fun weekend toy has to to leave the garage. The Viggen edition cars came standard with ALL options and a 5-speed manual transmission only. This car has been not only been pampered and garaged but every single item that has been needed or required in the future has been addressed. All power options; seats, windows, door locks, keyless entry, mirrors, headlight wipers, automatic climate control, cruise, heated seats, radio antenna, cd player, etc work as they should. The top has been completely rebuilt and works flawlessly, all new AC components, PCV #6 update, new throttle body, new DIC, new tensioner, new idler, ALL fluids/filters, ABS control module, and much more have been replaced within the last few years; way too many new parts and services to list. The engine has been freshly tuned and serviced and currently sits on Borbet Type CA 18" upgraded rims and new tires in place of the sometimes problematic stock alloy wheels(nice original stock rims included.) The car is complete and missing nothing. She has had ONLY full synthetic services every 3k miles since new and is a sludge free engine(pictures to prove it.)
This Viggen has all the original paperwork, owners manuals, a pile of maintenance records, and two keys. She runs great, shifts smoothly, and brakes sharply. There is no smoking, leaks, or noises; she runs and drives perfect every time. The car is 100% stock and completely unmodified aside from the upgraded wheels. I have all the confidence in the world in this car and would not hesitate to drive her anywhere, I will regret letting this one go but the next owner will be getting an amazing deal. This is a 13 year old car and does have a few scratches and blemishes to be expected of any used car but there are no dents, rust, or faded paint on this car, only minor cosmetics that can be seen in the pictures. We are SAAB fanatics and appreciate and care for our cars from weekly detailing to lots of preventative maintenance. I have an photo account with 100+ pictures I will gladly email to serious buyers. Please email with any questions, thanks for looking. |

NEVS mulling electric Saab 9-3 convertible, looking for engine partners, too
Wed, 14 Nov 2012Do you believe in reincarnation? Like how we hope that, maybe, all of our hard work as auto writers will result in an eventual return as a swarm of beautiful butterflies. If you are a Saab fan, the equivalent could be this bit of news: The 9-3 Convertible may rise again, as an electric vehicle.
Word comes from the Dutch version of Autoweek that Chinese entity National Electric Vehicle Sweden (NEVS) has indicated that it will bring an electric version of the 9-3 Convertible to market in the next 18 months. The EV droptop would first debut in the Chinese market, but could expand, as could the lineup to other 9-3 variants, such as the sedan and SportCombi. A NEVS spokesperson has stated, "NEVS basically no doors holds." We're not sure if that's the spokesperson or the translation from the Dutch report, but you get the gist.
NEVS also indicated that conventionally powered versions of the 9-3 could be produced as well. The internal combustion engines could be the originally intended General Motors engines. Regardless of powerplant, we would be very eager to see Saab return, potentially as an EV to boot!
Saab begins 9-3 EV pilot production
Thu, 10 Apr 2014To say that Saab has had a tough time lately would be like saying that it's been a little colder than usual this winter. After General Motors finally gave up and sold it to Spyker in 2010, Saab declared bankruptcy the following year. GM successfully blocked Spyker from selling Saab to Chinese automaker Youngman the following year, but ultimately it ended up in the hands of another Chinese consortium called NEVS. Standing as it does for National Electric Vehicle Sweden, the new owners promised not only to restart production of the long-suffering 9-3, but also to turn it into an electric vehicle. And that's just what it's doing.
The latest news coming out of Sweden indicates that NEVS/Saab has started building the first examples of the 9-3 EV. These first 200 or so examples are set to be shipped off to Qingdao - the Chinese city that is home to the Tsingtao brewery, hosted the sailing components of the 2008 summer games on Beijing, was supposed to host an IndyCar race in 2012 before it was canceled, and also itself just happens to own 22 percent of NEVS.
These first EVs have their batteries mounted down low in the chassis for a low center of gravity and have a range of about 20 miles on a full charge. That's absolutely paltry compared to the other EVs on the market: a Nissan Leaf will travel more than four times that distance, and a Tesla Model S will go ten times farther on a charge.
NEVS' reorganization plan approved after all?
Fri, 29 Aug 2014What a difference a day makes. Thursday, we reported that current Saab parent National Electric Vehicle Sweden had its application for creditor protection denied by the Swedish court for being "vague and completely undocumented." But NEVS was back in court on Friday, and this time the application was granted. However, the story continued to get weirder as defense contractor Saab AB allegedly revoked NEVS' rights to use the Saab name.
NEVS did put out a brief press release confirming the court decision saying: "The District court of Vänersborg, Sweden, today August 29 approved the application for reorganization from National Electric Vehicle Sweden AB." The company allegedly has over 90 creditors, and according to Reuters, it owes them roughly 400 million Swedish krona ($57.56 million). The business says that it is in negotiations with two, unnamed companies to get additional funding.
Also, according to Reuters, Saab AB, best known for making fighter planes, has revoked NEVS' rights to the Saab brand name because the company's application for creditor protection gave the defense contractor that right. When NEVS bought Saab, it only acquired the automaker's physical assets, and had to negotiate for the rights to use the name.
