1984 Rolls Royce Silver Spur, Hooper Adaptation? Custom Leather, Like Bentley Rl on 2040-cars
Greenville, South Carolina, United States
up for sale is this VERY RARE 1984 ROLLS ROYCE SILVER SPUR LWB. this car has what i believe to be a Hooper coach built adaptation. that being the case she is one of just a handful built. i made an enquiry last friday (7/11/2014) to obtain the factory chassis card (build sheet) and i will have it in hand within the next few days. i will post the results of it here on ebay. she is listed on the CHARLOTTE NC Craigs list and i reserve the right to sell at anytime and close the auction.
what makes me believe the car to be a Hopper is not just the classic Hooper small back glass but also the specially pleated leather door panels and seats and the rear armrest vanity. the car also has a leather covered and interior colored matched gear selector cover. it also sports a high dollar Nardi steering wheel and horn push and very unusual door wood caps. it also has a full set of front and rear lambs wool over rugs. the car starts easily hot or cold and runs well. it has hardly been driven for the last 18 months and so the gas is stale. a gas tank flush, fresh gas and a good tune up will undoubtedly do the old girl the world of good. right now the car will comfortably drive around the neighborhood but she has not seen interstate speeds for awhile. any inspection is welcome and encouraged. she will happily drive onto a transporter and i am happy to get you a quote to have her delivered. you may call or text 864 617 1596 up until 10PM eastern standard time. the brake lights stay on monetarily after the car starts as is usual for these cars and then they both go out. in my opinion it would be a good thing to flush the system and refill with fresh fluid. the tires are almost new with 95% tread left. the oil pressure is very good hot or cold and the car does not run hot even if left idling for 30 minutes or more. there is a half engine speed tick when the engine is cold but this soon dies away so i am sure its just a lifter being slow to pump up after she has sat idle so long. all the lights work and the car has the desirable European oblong single glass headlights. the drivers door PWL just whizzes up and down as do the two rear windows but the front passenger window is sluggish going up. it gets there, its just slow. the heat works very well and works on all its settings except windshield defrost. probably a stepper motor is stuck or has gone bad which would not allow the flaps the switch from dash to windshield. the heat and A/C fans work very well. the A/C will not come on and my opinion is that the unit needs a fresh charge of Freon as the compressor will not cut on. the A/C fans work on all settings but simply blow normal air. the car is VERY VERY solid and apparently has spent most of its life in California. i imagine it was sold new there, we shall see what the chassis card says. there is only one VERY minor drip under the car and this is directly around the oil pan drain plug. it is of not consequence its that minor. the hubcaps are aftermarket and while they suit the car i would want the originals on it. the body is straight apart from a few very minor dings and scratches, see close up pictures. if i were keeping the car i would definitely have it sanded and painted. it needs it. the right outer grill upright has a ding at the top and the left has a tweak at the bottom. the rear bumper horizontal rubber needs to be re painted but it is not all banged up or has pieces knocked out of it. please refer to pictures. the drivers seat works very well in all positions as do both mirrors. the front passenger seat is sometimes slow to respond to the electric toggle switch, probably bad connections. if you have any questions at all or need specific pictures i encourage you to call or better yet stop by and see the car in person. any inspection is welcome and we can put her up on a lift for you so you can have a really good look underneath. FULL PAYMENT IN THREE DAYS. the ONLY methods of payment are CASH IN PERSON or a BANK WIRE TRANSFER. no other type of payment will be accepted and if you cannot comply with these simple terms then simply do not bid. thanks and good luck y`all. |

The Rolls-Royce of cocktails is a coddling ride for your tastebuds
Wed, Jun 7 2017In our last installment of the irregular and irreverent series on drinks loosely connected to – or named after – automobiles, we sipped a Speedway Cocktail, a drink that was as exciting (and dangerous) as the early Indy 500. This time, we're stirring a Rolls-Royce Cocktail with a silver spoon. And, as always, enjoy cocktails (and reading about them) while you're not behind the wheel. If the rumors we hear are correct, Rolls-Royce will be unveiling an all-new Phantom this summer. The arrival of a flagship Roller isn't quite as rare as the coronation of a new member of the British Royal Family, but is tres recherche nonetheless. Since the nameplate's founding nearly 100 years ago, this will be only the eighth generation of Phantom to be delivered into the greedy hands of the world's vilest oligarchs. If you're one of the .01 percent, this is cause for a drink, and what better cocktail to raise in toast than one named for the brand itself? (For us 99.99 percenters, the answer is easy: Molotov.) As you might expect, the Rolls-Royce cocktail is kind of a classied-up version of an upscale iteration of an already elegant drink, conjugated from the classic (gin) martini and it well-married brother, the Martinez. "It's basically a very wet martini," says Paul Hletko, founder of FEW Spirits, an Evanston, Illinois gin and whiskey distillery acronymically (and winkingly) named for local maven Frances Elizabeth Willard, who helped found the Women's Christian Temperance Union – one of the forces behind Prohibition. "Two-to-one is a fantastic ratio of gin to vermouth that really lets the vermouth shine, and then having that split between dry and sweet vermouths gives you fantastic and rich complexity, with that little bit of Benedictine being that really nice herbal add," Hletko told us. It all sounds intriguingly botanical, and the drink itself has a reputation as being a favorite among bartenders, a coupe brimming with insider insight. "In the history of drinking there are many cocktails made with vermouth and gin," says legendary mixologist Charles Schumann from Schumann's Gastronomie in Munich.
Rolls-Royce predicts it will set a delicious production record in 2020
Mon, Apr 27 2020Rolls-Royce suspended production at its Goodwood, England, factory in March 2020 in response to the coronavirus pandemic, but there's at least one part of its business that's not affected by the temporary shutdown. The 250,000 bees that live and work near its factory are on track to set another production record in 2020. The BeeMW-owned (sorry) firm opened its Bee Apiary in 2017. It currently consists of six hives named Phantom, Wraith, Ghost, Dawn, Cullinan, and Spirit of Ecstasy, respectively. Rolls-Royce announced the quarter-million bees that buzz around its premises emerged from winter in excellent health, and they're expected to make even more honey in 2020 than in 2019 (though Rolls-Royce didn't specify a quantity). Clearly, social distancing and work-from-home orders don't apply here. Rolls-Royce works with local beekeepers to process the honey when it's ready, but don't look for it in the breakfast aisle the next time you're out buying groceries. It's exclusively served to the company's guests, like the customers who travel to Goodwood to configure or take delivery of a car. Put another way, a taste of Rolls-Royce-branded honey will cost you at least $300,000 and a round-trip ticket to the British countryside. Surprisingly, the rivalry between Rolls-Royce and Bentley continues in the world of beekeeping. In 2019, Bentley built two giant hives for 120,000 bees near its headquarters in Crewe, England. It predicted they'd make about 33 pounds of honey annually, which amounts to about 50 jars. Ford keeps tens of thousands of bees, too; it's caring for at least 80,000 bees near the Rouge factory that currently manufactures the F-150. Bees are an often-overlooked part of the ecosystem. Plants depend on pollination to reproduce, and bees are nature's main pollinators; we'd ultimately have less food if bees were eradicated from the planet. They're endangered in many parts of the world, which is why some automakers are choosing to give them a home. Related Video: Featured Gallery Rolls-Royce Bee Apiary Green Weird Car News Rolls-Royce
2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith is everything you need, everything you don't [w/videos]
Wed, 06 Mar 2013It's not often that we get to talk about a new Rolls-Royce, what with the fact that the company's current model line is basically made up of two vehicles. But that all changes here at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, with the introduction of what might be the most emotional Roller of modern times, the Wraith.
The new two-door Rolls is effectively a Ghost coupe, and it stands to reason that this is Royce's answer to the Bentley Continental GT, albeit at a higher price point. Much higher, actually - the 245,000-euro - $320k USD - price of entry for the Wraith is about $100,000 more than a Continental GT Speed coupe. Woof. And to our eyes, all that extra money isn't buying you much in the looks department, as the collective opinion of the Autoblog editors on-site in Geneva is that it's more imposing than elegant.
But the Wraith will no doubt be a special, exclusive, impressive machine for anyone who plunks down that sort of cash. For starters, it's powered by a V12 that puts out an impressive 624 horsepower and 590 pound-feet of torque mated to an eight-speed ZF "Satellite Aided" transmission. This nifty cog-swapper actually works with GPS to not only pre-select the right gear for the portion of road you're on, but for the next portion of you'll be driving on, as well. That, friends, is cool.
