One of the first of the Silver Shadow series (678th out of 32,000 built)
Very
desirable "chrome bumper" car with celebrity ownership status. This Silver Shadow is not only a beautiful example but is unique
in that it was owned by famous singer of the 50's and 60's; Kay Starr.
I have a file on the car which records her ownership along with the original
Californian number plate; "Ms Jelly" which was her affectionate

Silver Shadow finished in 2-tone Cornish beige over Tobacco with parchment Connolly
hides. It has hand-painted fine lines to the waistlines and hubcap beauty trim
rings finished in contrasting tones. This unique combination presents quite
stunningly providing a very classic look of the era. The beauty about these early Silver Shadows is
that they are “as the designer intended” – as Rolls-Royce conceived the car
without all the safety requirement specifications introduced shortly after.
Subsequent Silver Shadows had big changes to the dash board to meet The interior of the car is beautiful. The
leather is in very good original presenting condition with welcomed patina and remains soft and supple. Door
panels, interior chrome work, gauges and instruments are all in very fine
condition. Even the clock tick-tocks good time. And that wood, is to die for! The exterior of the car is straight and the
paint presents in nice condition. The car appears to have been repainted and looks to be some 15 years old. There are some early signs of minor crazing on the top surfaces (bonnet, boot and roof) but only detectable upon close inspection (shallow and not deep). This is an early sign these areas may need repainting but one could easily go a good number of years as they remain. Make no mistake, the finish is otherwise high in luster with a deep shine all over with only the most minor little chip, nick and blemish as you would expect of a 15 year old paint job. It presents well with chrome and glass in fine condition. The trunk has all its original carpet fitted and
is very clean and dry. Photos include a pic of the carpet folded back to reveal
the original under felt which is like new. Tyres are Michelin (205/75). Hubcaps
are straight and were recently buffed so the stainless steel is shiny. Mechanically the car is in good order. It has
been recently work-shopped by Park-Ward with all the hydraulics/braking system serviced and
working well. The engine truly purrs and gear-change is smooth and quiet. The
car is very spritely in power which is a good sign of a well cared for and good
condition motor. The car has lived most of its life in
A/C blows ice cold and the heater works well. All interior and exterior lighting has been checked with all bulbs and lamps working as they should. Original jack (still in original factory wax paper wrapping) and operating manual, including a file of various service work receipts come with the car. ~~ The release of
the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow in 1966 took the motoring world by storm and left
even the most renowned luxury car manufacturers with dropped jaws and consumers
in awe. It was to be the single most successful model ever to be produced by
Rolls-Royce Motors. This one is a beautiful example and provides as an
excellent all-round 8 out of 10 driver/collectible and/or take it as it is to

No corners are cut. And it is all addressed in true Doors and windows:- Every car has its interior door panels removed. If the wood is in need of repair (as most are) it is refinished in-house by trained and talented craftsmen at Park-Ward Motors. This is a detailed process of stripping the wood of its old lacquer, repairing the veneer if there is damage, staining the top surface as per Rolls-Royce methodology and refinishing with no less than 25 coats of clear lacquer. Hand wet-sanded and polished between all of its last 15 coats. New window felt guides and wood-to-glass foam seals are fitted. All window mechanisms are checked and serviced for smooth and efficient up and down movement. This includes an electrical modification to rectify the typical “slow window syndrome”. All tracks, chains and gears are lubricated. Where central locking is fitted, these are all serviced to ensure no “solenoid sticking”, another common problem. Units are repaired and or changed as required for refurbished units. Door wiring and door-to-body wiring is checked, repaired and/or replaced as required. The splash plastic on the inside of the doors to protect the leather panels from rain splash from inside the door is replaced with correct specification black plastic as used by the factory. Cut to shape and glued in position as per original. All door hardware is checked and repaired as required including locks, handles and scuttle finishes. The door is reassembled with all items cleaned and polished. The wood refitted and the leather panels are re-Connollised before final fitment. Take this example and apply it to the many, many different aspects of Rolls-Royce restoration, service and maintenance and you have our dedication to correct and professional vehicle pre-delivery preparation and commissioning.

Although licensed and bonded, I am not a main-stream retail car dealer or broker; I am a professional car collector of some 30 years with considerable experience and knowledge of Rolls-Royce and Bentley Motor Cars. I have a long standing reputation being associated with the marque which I take seriously. I take pride in my cars and have fun in collecting and restoring them. However, auctions are not a game so when you place a bid or offer, and you are the winning bidder, please understand you have entered a binding contract. You cannot bid and win the auction and expect not to meet the terms and conditions. Bidding and/or winning does not mean you are expecting me to “hold” the car until you have the opportunity to inspect it. Any inspection contemplated should be undertaken BEFORE you bid or make an offer and I openly welcome any potential buyer to come and personally inspect the car. As a collector and experienced restorer of the marque, I make
every effort to bring my cars to a high standard. By comparison, my cars are
generally superior to others available but they are by no means perfect. You
must expect some issues. Unless specifically stated, the car is not of show
standard but of nice "driver" condition. Please understand, show cars
of this model cost hundreds of thousands of dollars to achieve and sell for
prices commensurate, so the sale price of this car reflects its relative condition.
You are buying "condition" accordingly. Buyers should not expect to
receive concours quality or "perfect" cars at these prices. Please
also understand, the very nature of these classic Rolls-Royces is such that it
is not always possible to attend to every item, or perhaps I may have
inadvertently overlooked items. Further, and very importantly, these cars are
classic cars also because they are old. So this means a 45 year old car is
predominantly comprised of 45 year old parts. And old parts will fail. All
buyers must understand and expect that things can or will wear out, break
and/or stop functioning without notice. This is even more likely with
hand-built English cars of early technology when compared to the typical
American car of the same vintage. Please note, fitted radio/stereo systems are
usually subject to upgrade by purchasers so I do not ensure operation of these.
Similarly, cruise control systems fitted to these classics were of an inferior
design and I do not check or warrant the operation of these. Suspension and
brakes on these cars are complex. We thoroughly check them and replace things
that are identified faulty. But please understand, by example; if we change a
brake line because it appears aged or faulty, we do NOT at the same time
replace all other hoses because they are of similar age. This is considered
"preventative maintenance". We do not do this unless specifically
requested and is not included in the purchase price. Feel free to ask for this
additional service. Further, a feature or function that is working perfectly
one moment, may decide to play-up the next. After all, it is some 47 years old.
This is the nature of any classic car and especially a Rolls-Royce which was
very "complicated" for its era. For this reason it is necessary for
the following condition: Being a classic car
in excess of 10 years of age, in most US states, the mileage may be
recorded as “exempt”. In this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the
accuracy of the mileage indicated or shown and accepts no responsibility for
any discrepancy with independent reports such as Carfax, AutoCheck, etc. In
this regard the seller makes no warranties as to the accuracy of the mileage
indicated or shown. Also, due to test & maintenance driving, the indicated mileage may also vary as at time of delivery to that stated in this listing. I can hold the vehicle up to 30 days while you arrange
shipping but you must immediately insure it. I will not bear any responsibility
for any additional costs including storage, transportation, or repair after the
close of the auction. Whereas I am happy to store the car in excess of 30 days
from auction end, a cost of $35 per day shall apply beyond 30 days of auction
end. Also, you must remember that this is a classic +/-47 year old vehicle, and
while it is up to you, I do not recommend that you just “hop in and drive it
across the country”until you have familiarised yourself with the car. At least,
I have never done that. I have always professionally transported the cars in
enclosed carriers from where I bought them to my home. I am sorry if these terms seem harsh but there seem to be some very unrealistic buyers out there - fortunately, only few of these people exist but those that do can make life difficult, so it appears EVERYTHING needs to spelled out. Very simply put, this is an old car being offered for sale. It is not new and is subject to the perils of age. Further, Rolls-Royces are not without nuances, idiosyncrasies and they are renown for a host of design issues which can make them not inexpensive to maintain. This is well documented in many circles. You need to be a special and considerate type of purchaser to own a Rolls-Royce. Their down-side is part of the fun in owning them! As the old saying goes; "we love to hate them and hate to love them!" Navigating the road time forgot in a Rolls-Royce Cullinan
Tue, May 5 2020The Rolls-Royce Cullinan glides evenly over the rutted single-lane dirt road, barely unsettling its passengers. Nobody is speaking in the lush cabin, not even my normally chatty 7-year-old. All eyes are turned to the Delaware River gliding by, a dozen feet away, through a skim of skeletal hardwood trees. There’s no sign of humanity or habitation. ItÂ’s almost a scene in a movie. The Last of the Mohicans, perhaps. Today we are exploring the Old Mine Road, and it is making us think of ghosts. Its 104 miles of asphalt and dirt make up one of the oldest continuously-used roads in America, stretching from New YorkÂ’s Catskills to the Pennsylvania Delaware Water Gap. The Lenape are thought to have first threaded a path here in the 1300s. It is also a pathway wending its way through the NortheastÂ’s violent history, from bloody skirmishes between the original Native American inhabitants and European settlers to the Americans and Brits in the Revolutionary War. Little wonder that out here in the quiet, that history — and those ghosts — feel close. Amazingly, the 40-mile section in New Jersey that follows the eastern banks of the Delaware looks much like it did a hundred years ago. There are million-dollar views, but as part of the Delaware recreation area, no development is allowed. Instead of the gated McMansions youÂ’d expect less than 1.5 hours from New York City, we are greeted by silent forest and twin lanes of bumpy or shattered asphalt. ThereÂ’s a section of dirt and gravel, narrowing to a single lane. Easy to imagine hundreds of years of horses and mules stamping down the thin path. It is early spring and like everyone else, we have cabin fever. My wife, son and mother-in-law are sheltering-in-place at our country house in the Poconos. America is locked into a struggle with an invisible enemy. It seems a good time to get some historical perspective. If our ancestors lived and endured under harsh conditions, so can we. There is nothing inherently unsafe or socially unacceptable about taking a short road trip on a virtually unused road, so we pack a lunch of cold pizza and snacks, and pile into the leather-bound, environmentally-controlled cocoon of the Rolls. We make our way to Kingston, N.Y., where the road begins. IÂ’m finally going to drive the entirety of the Old Mine Road.  Our Barney-purple Cullinan is a rolling sanctuary, a movable fortress of social isolation.
Rolls-Royce wrapped a Ghost in gold for Antonio Brown's Super Bowl use
Sun, Feb 7 2016Well, don't I feel like a jerk. While in San Diego earlier this week for the Honda Civic Coupe launch, I stumbled across a Rolls-Royce Phantom that had been wrapped in a chrome/polished gold finish. It was atrocious, so I took a picture, posted it on Facebook, and captioned it by suggesting that Charles Rolls and Henry Royce were turning in their graves. Now, the company those two men lent their names to have wrapped a Ghost in a very similar style for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown to drive around San Francisco during Super Bowl 50. It's not clear why Brown is in San Francisco, since his team never made it past the AFC Divisional Playoff. But his love of Rolls-Royce motorcars is no secret. Brown made headlines in the sporting world in July of 2015 for his Phantom. Sporting a matte-black finish with a wide yellow stripe down the middle – just like the Steelers' helmets – the car also wore whitewall tires and bore Brown's signature in a gloss decal. This wrapped Ghost is about as tasteful. Its semi-gloss gold finish is broken up by the silver hood, while Brown's catchphrase, "Business Is Boomin" is displayed along the doors. The front fenders feature Brown's initials and his number. At least there aren't whitewall tires. You can check out the one-off Ghost in the gallery above. Thu, Jan 14 2016The modern-day World Rally Championship a monumental amount of fun to watch – I should know, as I recently was lucky enough to head to the UK to watch WRC Wales Rally GB – but even the most monstrous of the current WRC cars are based on fairly pedestrian European hatchbacks. Back in the heyday of rally, the Group B era in the 1980s, much hotter cars were the basis of even more incredible competition machines, for the most part. Take the exotic Ford RS200, or the Lancia Delta S4 with its twin-charged engine. And the hatchback-based Group B cars were bonkers, too. So what would some of our favorite modern cars look like if Group B had never ended? A British site named CarWow hired an artist to reimagine everything from the Rolls-Royce Wraith to the Porsche 911 as a retro-inspired rally car, and they were kind enough to let us share the results in the gallery above. The gallery features an Alfa Romeo Giulia in Martini livery, an Audi TT in classic Ur-Quattro colors, a Fiat 500 Abarth sporting massive flares and a hood blister full of auxiliary lights, a new Ford Mustang in RS200 livery, a Lancia Delta in Alitalia colors, a Porsche 911 in Rothmans livery, a Renault-Alpine in classic blue, a Rolls-Royce Wraith tribute to the Jules cologne Corniche Coupe, and a relatively modern-looking VW Touran. So far, the favorite around the office is the incredible Mercedes-Benz S-Class that is an homage to the wonderful 300 SEL 6.8 AMG "Red Pig" that essentially put AMG on the map.
