Upcoming Rolls-Royce Ghost wears evolutionary design in spy photos

The wow factor of a Rolls-Royce does not come from wild, outlandish design. Its cars and SUV are stately, mature, handsome and do not change looks with a shift of the wind like many vehicles in the auto industry. Those who know model cycles know that Rolls-Royce follows a slightly longer timeline than most, and for the current Ghost, its time is nearly up. These spy shots give us an early glimpse of what the updated model will look like. Even with a ton of camo on the car, the photos confirm what we already know about Rolls-Royce: It's a company that does not stray from what its designers deem to be a classic look. The new Phantom looks like the old Phantom, the Wraith looks like the Ghost, and the Cullinan looks like the Phantom. And thus, the new Ghost is pretty much going to look like the current Ghost, just with a few modernizations that will help the model age as well as Pierce Brosnan. What the spy shots show is evolutionary. It retains its traditional three-box sedan design, if slightly smoothed over. It retains the long hood with the blunt snout and vertical bar grille, it has a high belt line that extends the length of the car, the same coach door handles, and even the exact same wheels (though that is typical of a test car). The changes we notice are minor. The car will likely have updated front and rear lighting, the side mirrors appear to have slightly more aerodynamic designs with cameras embedded, and the small third window appears to have a slight change in shape. Following in the footsteps of the Phantom, the new Ghost will likely ride on Rolls-Royce's new Architecture of Luxury platform for an improved ride and drive. We expect the Ghost will take on the Phantom's new 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 powertrain, and it's possible it could also gain four-wheel steering technology. There are rumors about Rolls-Royce producing an EV in the future, but there's no indication which vehicle it would be, or if that's real at all. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan spied in production bodywork again

The Rolls-Royce Phantom is a massive vehicle. It's far larger in person than it appears to be in photos. It rivals the Ford F-150 in overall length and width, and remember this is a sedan. If the same characteristic holds true for the upcoming Rolls-Royce Cullinan SUV, as these new spy photos show, this is going to be a luxury apartment on wheels. We've seen photos of the Cullinan before, and this one doesn't appear to be too far removed from that model. The brick-like shape remains, as do all the typical Rolls-Royce touches like the upright grille and suicide doors. Out back, we can see rectangular exhaust tips and a low-opening tailgate. The prototype taillights appear to flow into the tailgate. The overall style is all about clean lines and as creating as few curves as possible. It's probably going to be described as handsome far more than it will be described as pretty. It should be no surprise that the Cullinan is as big as it its. It's supposed to share a platform with the upcoming Phantom replacement. Expect all wheel drive and a turbocharged V12, though a plug-in hybrid variant is rumored to be in the works. Expect lots of aluminum to try and keep the weight down. The prototype looks pretty far along, so look for the final version sometime within the next year or so. Rolls-Royce Ghost meets its muddy maker in Jakarta flood

When severe weather or a natural disaster strikes an area, it's hard to get sentimental over trivial possessions like cars, but at the same time, as auto enthusiasts, it always pains us to see a rare car lost regardless of the circumstances. Heavy rains in Jakarta, Indonesia have produced the worst flooding in the city since 2007, which according to Reuters has left an estimated 18,000 people displaced from their homes in addition to six deaths, leaving the roadways covered covered in feet of water.
One of the many cars claimed by the rising waters was this Rolls-Royce Ghost that is surrounded by water that almost fully covers the massive wheels. There is no word as to how much water got inside this Ghost, but it was obviously enough that it could be bailed out by the bucket.
