Rolls-Royce
Silver Shadow
1973

This is a very handsomely restored Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow saloon exquisitely finished in Velvet Green with
"House of Commons" green hides with hand painted gold fine-lines on the waist-rails and hubcap beauty rings. The
Velvet green colour takes on a very formal and rich hue of green in sunlight and yet in the shade and at night
presents as black. This colour was usually reserved for limousines and Division cars. It is simply stunning.

In many cultures the double green combination is a symbol or prosperity and success and for this reason this car
has been affectionately named; the "Money Car".

This gorgeous Silver Shadow was the subject of considerable refurbishment by The Park-Ward Motor Museum about 2
years. The paint job is stunning and was a bare metal respray of some $20,000 and carried out by Rolls-Royce
experts - Park-Ward's experienced RR body-shop. The paint is perfect without a single stone-chip, scratch or mark.
Not a single one! If you see something in the pictures then it is a dust or dirt speck. Overall, some $42,000 was
spent on her restoration. The car has attended various local shows and won 1st place each time. Make no mistake,
this is a true show car!

When the car was repainted, the windows were removed with new rubbers fitted, including side window finishes. Every
piece of stainless steel was removed and machined buffed and then hand-polished before final assembly so they look
stunning. This includes the grill, headlight brows, rocker spears, hubcaps and minor finishers. Even the door-jam
stainless sill moulds were removed during the painting process and machined buffed. All the tail-lamp and headlight
lenses were replaced for new ones. The fine-lines were painted by steady-hand & squirrel brushes in accordance with
the Rolls-Royce/Bentley tradition.

The interior is like new and is of virtual brochure quality.

The Italian burl walnut wood is immaculate with the dash, console, radio surround, top-roll dash-pad finisher and
all 4 doors having been recently redone by Park-Ward's own craftsmen. The process was done at considerable cost and
in accordance with the Rolls-Royce "multi-layer lacquering technique" which involves painstaking wet sanding and
buffing by hand between coats - no less than 25! The final finish on the wood throughout is simply stunning.

The leather is lovely with no tears or cracks and presents beautifully having been re-Connollised (not the same as
simple re-dying). Any line or marks you see in the photos are the natural creases synonymous with Connolly hide
leather. The leather remains soft and supple. The carpets are the original factory Wilton wool nicely contrasted in
pale sage green to "connect" with the overal Money green them. The headlining is also a very rare choice of subtle
sage green not often seen and is in perfect condition as is all glass and interior finishes. The rear parcel shelf
is in fine original condition.

All features and functions are working; electric windows, electric seats etc. The Air conditioning blows icy cold
with a new compressor having been recently fitted.

Mechanically, this Silver Shadow a very fine example. It has been fully workshop inspected with anything required
doing, attended to by Park-Ward's Rolls-Royce and Bentley mechanics and craftsmen. The engine is smooth and quiet
and the steering light but tight. Important costly items such as the hydraulics and brakes were all fully inspected
and serviced as required. This included checking of all brake hoses and system pressure tested and bled. Many other
serviceable parts were replaced and items attended to and repaired as needed. It is ready to drive and enjoy.

This Rolls-Royce drives particularly well, considerably quieter and smoother than you would normally expect for any
other Shadow of this era. Mileage is not verifiable but commensurate with the car's pre-restoration condition. The
white-wall tyres are the slightly wider type and really set the car off. They have done less than 1,000 miles since
fitting 2 years ago.

All features, functions and electrics have been checked right down to the smallest and insignificant dash and
courtesy light. The car has its original radio and 8-track cassette player.

Rolls-Royce Wraith officially revealed in profile

Tue, 22 Jan 2013

Well here's a nice twofer. On the same day Rolls-Royce releases its first official teaser image showing the 2014 Wraith, we also get a look at the car undergoing some cold-weather testing courtesy of some new spy shots. As the coupe version of the Ghost, the 2014 Rolls-Royce Wraith will make its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, and it's expected to go on sale during the fourth quarter of this year.
Rolls-Royce already confirmed plenty of information in a teaser it released last week, but the latest image shows us a clear shot of what the car's midsection will look like. Comparing this image and the spy shots, we can see that the Wraith will have a pretty sleek - (almost Bentley Continental GT-like) roofline, and, like the Phantom Coupe, it will have rear-hinged doors. We can also tell from the spy shots that it seems to be keeping the same face as the Ghost and taillights, too.
Be sure to check out the latest spy photos for the Wraith as well as a brief press release from Rolls-Royce by scrolling below.

Car companies used to cook up sales with recipe books

Fri, 08 Aug 2014

The evolution of automotive marketing has undergone a number of strange phases. Few, though, match the strangeness of the 1930s to 1950s, when automotive marketers turned to cookbooks as a means of promoting their vehicles. Yes, cookbooks. We can't make this stuff up, folks.
This bizarre trend led to General Motors distributing cookbooks under the guise of its then-subsidiary Frigidaire. Ford, meanwhile, offered a compilation of recipes from Ford Credit Employees (shown above). The cookbook-craze wasn't limited to domestic manufacturers, though. As The Detroit News discovered, both Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen got in on the trend, although not until the 1970s.
The News has the full story on this strange bit of marketing. Head over and take a look.

Rolls-Royce SUV codenamed Cullinan

Mon, Mar 2 2015

A modern Rolls-Royce saloon may already be the size of some SUVs as it is, but the storied British automaker embarked upon a new dawn two weeks ago when it announced it would proceed with developing its first sport-ute. Only it's not calling it a sport-ute, SUV, crossover, off-roader or anything of the sort. It's calling it a "high-bodied car" (which is pretty much what any crossover is, when it comes down to it) that will drive "effortless... everywhere." And now it has a name. Sorta. The latest news from the UK indicates that the vehicle is being referred to internally as the Cullinan, taking its name from the world's largest diamond gem that adorns the Queen's scepter. Only that's neither the internal codename, strictly speaking, nor is it likely to be its nameplate once it reaches production. The project is codenamed RR31 (apparently as the 31st new model line being developed by the company) and is likely to carry a name more in line with the likes of Wraith, Ghost and Phantom in the brand's spooky nomenclature or draw on a dormant nameplate. The high-riding Rolls is tipped to launch a new alloy architecture for the company that would be unique to Goodwood's products and be rolled out first on the crossover before serving as the starting point for the next Ghost and Phantom families. Size-wise the SUV would slot in between the two, and likely enough in price position as well. Power would likely come from either the 6.6-liter twin-turbo V12 from the Ghost or the larger, older 6.75-liter atmospheric twelve used in the Phantom, but while a diesel was apparently ruled out (primarily due to the fuel's scarcity in certain markets as opposed to the increased NVH levels inherent therein), a hybrid is said to be in the mix. Though it's focused more on exclusivity than it is on volume, Rolls expects the SUV to bring in new customers and expand its production by around 30 percent or so. But that would be nothing new: The vast majority of Wraith and Ghost buyers have been new to the brand. Look for the crossover to launch in 2017, when it promises to crown the emerging class of high-end luxury crossovers and put even those being launched by the likes of Bentley and Maybach to shame.
