This first of the Silver Shadow series has undergone a very detailed restoration. It is a very true and straight example finished in sought after classic Masons black with light tan Connolly leather interior, highlighted with hand-painted contrasting fine pin-striping to the waist-line and hub-cap beauty rings.
Beautifully and fully restored by the Park-Ward Motor Museum, it was a southern state clean and dry example to begin with. The body was straight & rust-free but the paint was faded and cracked. So it underwent a high-end repaint by our experienced Rolls-Royce and Bentley dedicated body-shop . It is now lustrous and consistent. Being a brand new paint job it is without any marks or blemishes of any kind. The front and rear window were removed from the car during the repaint and new rubbers fitted upon re-assembly. The fine-lines were hand-painted by one of the few remaining craftsmen of the art. The car has always been climate control stored since its restoration and has never seen rain, snow or salt.
The interior is in stunning condition presenting in totally original format. The leather is all original having been re-Connollised. Overall, it is excellent in appearance with only a minimal amount of patina from moderate use over the years. It is a very welcomed look. There are no cuts, tears or worn patches. The leather itself will need ongoing hide food rejuvenation to bring back its complete suppleness. Park-Ward craftsmen have already commenced this operation which takes about 12 months to finalise. The carpets are new Wilton wool, flown in specially from the United Kingdom for this restoration and were custom-made to factory look. Right down to the use of genuine leather binding on all edges. The African burl walnut wood is excellent with all the dash, front window embellishing, all 4 door cappings and vanity mirrors having been recently refinished by our own wood-working shop. The car has original picnic tables fitted to the rear of the front seats which was also redone by Park-Ward's wood refinishing shop. The wood is carefully stripped and no less than 25 coats of clear lacquer is applied. Each, hand-rubbed between coats to achieve a very high-lustre and glass like smooth gloss finish. The picnic tables and the doors are the high-light of the interior with a stunning wood-grain that displays, by the grace of nature, a heavy contrast of light and dark grains.
The dash top-roll and rear parcel shelf are in perfect condition.

Ugur Sahin returns with Rolls Royce Jonckheere Aerodynamic Coupe II design
Sat, 15 Dec 2012The "Round Door" Rolls-Royce Phantom I Aerodynamic Coupe (inset) is a magnificent black beast of a car (and you can see it at the Petersen Automotive Museum for a limited time) as well as a mystery: designed by the Jonckheere Works in Belgium in 1935, all records for the one-of-a-kind coupe were destroyed in World War II, so no one knows who designed it or who commissioned it. What remains of the original coachbuilding company now makes bodies for cars and buses, and has asked designer Ugur Sahin to reinterpret the most fabulous car from its history.
We've written about Sahin often before, recently about his Corvette-based Anandi being shown at Top Marques Monaco and going into production. For a man who favors long hoods and short bodies, this particular Rolls-Royce couldn't be better. Sahin says the word "Respect" guided his lines for the 77-year-old car, the most apparent changes being the front fender treatment, the headlights dropping into the fenders, and the serious downsizing of the fin at the rear. Sahin says that there are talks with potential investors about building a one-off.
You can find out a little more about it in the press release below, and check out the gallery above of high-res images for every angle.
U.S. issues new tariff threat, this time against British-built cars
Mon, Jan 27 2020WASHINGTON — Britain is the United States' closest ally but their long friendship may be sorely tested as the two countries try to forge a new trade agreement after Britain's exit from the European Union. U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said on Saturday in London that he was optimistic that a bilateral deal with Britain could be reached as soon as this year. But Mnuchin gave up no ground after a second meeting with his UK counterpart, Sajid Javid. Javid has insisted that Britain will proceed with a unilateral digital services tax, despite a U.S. threat to levy retaliatory tariffs on British-made autos. Mnuchin told reporters after Saturday's meeting that such taxes would discriminate against big U.S. tech companies like Alphabet Inc's Google, Apple, Facebook and Amazon. The UK Treasury declined to comment on the private meeting. The divide highlights the challenges ahead as the Trump administration seeks a new bilateral agreement with Britain, part of a broader push to rebalance relations with nearly all its major trading partners. The stakes are high — British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has pegged the trade deal with United States as a way to ease the pain of breaking with Europe, Britain's largest trade partner. U.S. President Donald Trump, has promised a "massive" trade deal to support Brexit, the product of a populist movement similar to his "America First" agenda. The goodwill and special relationship the two countries have enjoyed for decades may not count for much, experts say. "Trump is not going to be doing Johnson any favors," said Amanda Sloat, a senior fellow with the Brookings Institution in Washington. "He's not going to give him a trade deal without major concessions." Even before the digital tax issue arose, the Trump administration threatened to tax foreign car imports, which could hit British-made Jaguar, Land Rover, Mini, and Honda Civic hatchback cars. Stiff U.S. trade demands include increased access for U.S. farm goods, concessions that will be difficult for Britain's entrenched natural food culture to swallow. The United States also wants Britain to change the way its National Health Service prices drugs and allow in more U.S. pharmaceuticals, which could prove politically unpopular for Johnson's government. Washington's demand that London block Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei Technologies Co Ltd for national security reasons could also cloud talks.
Rolls-Royce to reach 4,000 units this year
Tue, 30 Sep 2014Rolls-Royce is, by nature, an exclusive auto marque, but it has been steadily increasing its sales to the point that it could be looking at 4,000 units by the end of this year, setting a new record for the German-owned British automaker.
You don't even need to go back a decade to find Rolls-Royce sales hovering around the 1,000-unit mark. But that was when Goodwood only offered the Phantom saloon. The subsequent addition of the Phantom DHC and Phantom Coupe helped expand its portfolio, enlarged even further by the addition of the Ghost in 2010, by which time total sales were reaching 3,000 units.
The Spirit of Ecstasy marque has been hovering around the 3,500 mark ever since, but with the Wraith now in the mix and its reach extending into growing markets around the world, Autocar reports that global sales could top 4,000 units this year. (Of course that pales in comparison to one-time sister brand Bentley, which topped 10,000 deliveries last year, but Rolls-Royce typically competes at a higher price bracket.)
