In the early years of Rolls-Royce, a wide variety of coachbuilders were employed to cater to any possible need, or want a customer might have. No matter how out of the ordinary the request, Rolls-Royce and their select group of craftsmen accommodated without hesitation. It was in the spirit of that coach building past that in late 1986 Rolls-Royce began production on a series of 12 Camargues built to commemorate 80-years of Rolls-Royce sales in America. Placed at the top of Rolls-Royce's model hierarchy, all 12 had the same distinctive livery of white over scarlet Nuela hides and white piping. To complement the upholstery, these special models were equipped with a white Everflex top, beautiful silver inlays, burl walnut trim, silver interior accessories, and a special plaque commemorating their exclusive rarity. Unlike other Rolls-Royces of its day, styling was performed by famed Italian design house, Pininfarina, perhaps best known for its work for Ferrari. The Camargue incorporated a number of technical innovations, including the world's first completely automatic split-level air conditioning system allowing the choice of different variations of temperature for the upper and lower parts of the interior. Paul Woudenberg, author of the Rolls-Royce and Bentley Buyer’s Guide, says that the Camargue, “…is destined for long-range collectability.” This is an unbelievably rare opportunity to acquire one of the rarest, most collectible Rolls-Royce Camargues ever made. Tax, Title and License: Missouri residents are responsible for applicable sales tax in your county as well as title and licensing fees. If you live outside of Missouri, you are responsible for applicable tax, title and licensing fees in your area.

Rolls-Royce Director of Global Communications Richard Carter tells me that his storied employer is "a company that does not chase volume." In a perfect world, mused Carter, the carmaker would sell "one less" of its ultra-luxury vehicles than the fast-expanding world market demands. And, thanks in no small part to the unprecedented success of the Series I Rolls-Royce Ghost that launched in 2010, the Brit brand seems well positioned to strike that perfect balance between exclusivity and record profits. In 2003 (the year in which the first BMW-backed Rolls rolled off the line in West Sussex), the company managed to sell around 500 cars. This year, with the first run of already-back-ordered Ghost Series II models still weeks away from delivery, the marque will top 4,000 units for the first time in its history. Considering that each one of those "units" - a somewhat unsatisfying term for motor car this special - will gross Rolls-Royce $300,000 if we're being very conservative, you'll quickly see that creating a very desirable product for one of the best brands in the world negates the need to chase volume. The rich and free-spending are chasing this Ghost, instead.
A little over a month ago, Rolls-Royce revealed a special-edition Wraith that was "Inspired by Film." Now the British luxury automaker has returned with another unique take on its fastback coupe in the form of the Inspired by Fashion edition. Unveiled at the Pratt Institute in New York – one of the country's top design schools – the Wraith Inspired by Fashion is well, just that. It features a tone-on-tone white exterior, complemented by the customer's choice of accent color: green, red, or purple. The accents are also applied inside, where the cabin is done up in white and black leather, with a unique steering wheel and clock, wood trim that takes nine days to complete, welt leather door panels, and special embroidery. If nothing else, the Inspired by Fashion edition just goes to show the extent of personalization options that await the Rolls-Royce customer, the vast majority of whom take advantage of those choices when ordering their new ride. Akin to commissioning a fine suit or elegant piece of couture, the journey of creating a highly Bespoke Rolls-Royce motor car begins at the marque's equivalent of the tailor's atelier, the Bespoke Design Studio at the Home of Rolls-Royce in Goodwood, England.
Back in the day, a Rolls-Royce looked pretty much the same as a Bentley, but with a different grille. Once BMW took over Rolls-Royce, however, it was faced with the challenge of visually separating itself from its former sister brand. And most would agree that it did so pretty well. But its cars have looked pretty much the same ever since. What Rolls-Royce needs, then, is a bit of a design shake-up. And that's just what this latest appointment could bring. After a baker's dozen years as design director at Rolls-Royce (and twenty years designing for the BMW Group altogether), Ian Cameron is retiring from his post. In his place, Rolls-Royce has named Giles Taylor as its new director of design. In his new capacity, Taylor will report directly to BMW Group chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk, and be responsible for all design matters related to the Rolls-Royce brand and its products. Taylor was promoted to the role from his previous position as head of exterior design for the marque, a position he's held for barely more than a year.
