This is a great and rare 914-6 that has been in California most if not all of its life. Originally a black example as evidenced by the "80" stamped into Karmann doorsill tag, and no evidence of another color in jams or seems. Its first owner was the owner/founder of Hubbard's European in Eureka, CA. He sold it to current owner in 1986 when $ was needed. It was maintained and serviced by Hubbard's until 2012 when his widow brought it down to San Diego after he passed and told her "to please never sell it." Well, the time has come unfortunately for it to find a new home and someone who hopefully will restore it and bring it back to near 100%. The Good: We believe that the engine (# 6404835) is the original that it left Germany with. I had a local air-cooled specialist here in San Diego check it out and said, "if i was a betting man in Vegas, i would bet some good $ that it is." I however cannot guarantee that since i do not have the COA, yet. I ordered it 5 days ago. It handles and drives with ease, however the engine could use a good tune and the carbs re-built. I have driven it probably 150 miles in the last 10-12 days. Factory optioned 'Sport' Drivers Seat. Although the car originally started off as "Ivory", it shows no evidence of the paint and the current Black was done very well as you cannot see Ivory anywhere, and no evidence of prior accident damage. Has the original jack in the trunk. Floorpans have no holes, only light surface orange. Tachometer and Speedometer work. Most, if not all service records/receipts from 1986 to current. Brake calipers front & rear were just re-built with new rotors ($3,000). New fuel pressure regulator 2 weeks ago ($150). It is currently registered in California with California title in-hand. Recent Compression Test Results: #1: 110psi #2: 100psi #3: 120psi #4: 90psi #5: 90psi #6: 70psi The Less Good: Surface rusting, and light to moderate rust around front windshield seals. Not through the panels though, so that is good. Steering wheel not original. Nakamichi cassette radio not original. Black is not the original paint color. "GT" fenders are fiberglass and not original, but are high-quality as the gaps are consistent. Wheels are Mags that were popular in the late '70's and '80's but are not original. The front hood wont' open as of about 5 days ago. The cable must have snapped (good thing i got a photo of the front boot before that occurred.) Odometer is not functioning and is stuck at 33,xxx miles and has been since 1989. It was not driven much however, so I am placing the approximate mileage at about 50,000-70,000 miles max. I tried to be as thorough as possible. If you have any questions, please e-mail me and i will do my best do answer. Thank you for viewing! Brent Stone Auto Consulting On Jun-19-15 at 07:11:41 PDT, seller added the following information: Correction: Color Code "80" is Silver, not Ivory. Again, no evidence of the car being Silver. On Jun-22-15 at 12:24:58 PDT, seller added the following information: I just got off the phone with Porsche's COA department and they confirmed that the current engine #6404835 IS the original engine. So yes, it IS matching numbers.

2015 Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival

Thu, Aug 13 2015

Considered the big kick off of the major festivities surrounding Monterey Car Week, this year's Gordon McCall's Motorworks Revival certainly didn't disappoint. For those unable to make it to the California coast, our own Drew Phillips was on hand to snap some of the beautiful vehicles on display for this gorgeous gallery. Held annually at the Monterey Jet Center, the event is always a feast for the eyes by collecting planes, a gang of exotic supercars, and some the top cars crossing the auction block over the coming days, like a Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda convertible. The Ford GT both new and old was a major attendee at this year's party. Among them, the Petersen Museum brought along an original racecar and a GT40 MKIII to promote an upcoming exhibit. The classics were complimented by the latest version that has continued to keep tongues wagging. The GT wasn't the only classic with a modern update there. Singer used the posh event for the North American debut of its stunning restoration of the Porsche 911 Targa. Shelby American was also at the revival for the public unveiling of the 50th Anniversary Daytona Coupe. On the more modern front, Honda was in attendance with the future NSX and one of the McLaren F1 cars that the company's engine powers. For further proof of the ritzy folks that attend this soiree, Pagani and Koenigsegg both had stands to show off their extremely quick wares.

Porsche offers design walkthrough of Panamera Sport Turismo

Thu, 03 Jan 2013

The Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo was arguably the best concept car of 2012, and Porsche has been building upon that momentum by teasing us with videos of its first-ever station wagon design. After showing us some driving shots of the Sport Turismo, Porsche released a more in-depth and behind-the-scenes look at what it took to take the Panamera shooting brake from a full-scale clay model to the final product we saw on stage at the Paris Motor Show. In the video, Michael Mauer, Porsche style director, and Mitja Borkert, general manager advanced design style, both give a little insight about what went into creating the Sport Turismo Concept.
More than just a station wagon version of the Panamera, the Sport Turismo has a totally distinctive look nose to tail. Some of the key elements the designers touch on in the video include the Porsche-signature raised front fenders, the wide rear shoulders, the front wing inspired by the 918 Spyder, and even some of the car's unique touches, including the headlights and the three-dimensional "Porsche" lettering across the liftgate made from glass. One of the more exciting aspects of the concept - which is sadly just glossed over in the video - is the rear liftgate spoiler that features "variable aerodynamics" that sounds like it acts similar to the retractable spoiler on the current Panamera.
We still don't know if the Panamera Sport Turismo will make it into production, but if you want to see what went into creating this exciting concept car and see the different build phases designers went through to create the Paris show car, check out the video by scrolling below.

Porsche Cayenne diesel V8 may not be long for this world

Fri, Jan 23 2015

Goodbye, Porsche Cayenne V8 Diesel. We hardly knew ye. Nor did the Europeans, apparently. Porsche's V8 oil burner is still on the European model list for the Cayenne SUV, but the mill won't go through the likely pricey process of being updated to adhere to new and stricter European emissions standards, Just-Auto says. A Porsche spokesman confirmed to the publication that it's a fairly complicated process to update the diesel V8 to be so-called "Euro-6 compliant." With Cayenne diesels selling in relatively low volumes anyways, the German automaker might just dump the V8 diesel altogether, as it'd be quite cost-ineffective to make the necessary upgrades. The V8 diesel was a 4.1-liter engine that delivered 385 horsepower in addition to what sounds like a little too much exhaust for European clean-air regulators. While that's a pretty powerful profile, the most recent gas-powered V8 for the Cayenne delivers about 570 horsepower, so the diesel engine won't likely be missed by European auto enthusiasts. Besides, there's still the V6 diesel that's also sold in the US. That's a 4,800-pound beast that moves from 0 to 60 miles per hour in about seven seconds and gets a relatively (for diesels) modest 20 miles per gallon city. For those who are curious, Autoblog's First Drive review of that model can be found here.
