Jay Leno chats with Magnus Walker about his 1972 Porsche 911 72STR

Magnus Walker has stopped by the Big Dog Garage again to pay Jay Leno a visit in the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage. This time, the Porsche builder brought along his 1972 911 72STR 002. Walker calls the machine his best build to date, and the car is a rolling "best of" from Porsches past, rocking some of the more attractive elements pulled from a wide arc of 911 model years. Of course, the machine also wears a few signature Walker touches, including flush-mount turning indicators, a center-hood fuel filler and plenty of louver work.
Unlike some of Walker's other creations, the 72STR 002 is clean enough to lick. Leno seems suitably impressed with the creation, and while apparently isn't typically a fan of Porsche models in general, Walker's tastefully modified 911 has him singing a different tune. Robb Report chooses Porsche 911 as its Car of the Year

Robb Report has picked the seventh-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S as its 2013 Car of the Year, saying the two-door captivated its judges with "agility, driving dynamics and balance." The German coupe bested 12 others who were also in the running - the impressive list of nominees included the BMW M5, Audi S8, Ferrari FF, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse.
Judging involved more than just throwing darts at pictures on the wall, as the publication enlisted a panel of automotive experts to test drive each vehicle for close evaluation. The panelists included 100 members of the Robb Report Club (comprised of top corporate executives and influential readers), Editor-in-Chief Brett Anderson and automotive consultant Robert Ross. Full results of the competition will be revealed in the luxury magazine's March issue, hitting newsstands in about a week. Porsche planning customer driving center at Le Mans

Porsche seems to be on a campaign to build driving centers for its customers to allow them to experience the capabilities of their cars on track. It has one under way in Los Angeles, another in development at its North American headquarters in Atlanta, and a British center set up at the Silverstone circuit. Now the latest reports indicate that Porsche is planning yet another driving center at Le Mans.
The new facility is earmarked to be built at the Circuit de la Sarthe right by the start/finish line, incorporating the Porsche Curves that bridge the Arnage corner and the Ford Chicanes on the West side of the famous track.
Porsche is reportedly still seeking approval from the Automobile Club de l'Ouest that manages the circuit, and once given the green light, would still take some time to complete. But the idea of driving a 911 flat out on the legendary track is likely to make more than a few mouths water, particularly as the German automaker prepares its full-on assault of the famous endurance race next year.
