This can be repaired as part of the purchase price if the winning bidder authorizes. 2) One of the keys is missing the cap on the back end (See photo) ------------------------------------------------------------ Turbo S Review: (the 2 photos in this review are not the actual car for sale) Think back to high school and your guidance counselor’s assertion that, given the right amount of stick-to-itiveness, you could accomplish anything you wanted. No one believed that. Except, it seems, the engineers at Porsche. How else to explain a 4448-pound all-wheel-drive vessel that’s able to carry four tall adults comfortably and also hit 60 mph in 3.3 seconds, complete the quarter-mile in 11.5 at 122 mph, and apply lateral forces of 0.97 g to its passengers? Perseverance in the face of, well, nothing begot the Turbo S, a higher-output rendition of the Panamera Turbo. Very little changes to provide an extra 50 horsepower and 22 pound-feet of torque from the 4.8-liter, four-cam twin-turbo V-8—why ruin a good and insanely capable thing? There’s a pair of lower-inertia turbos—the lightweight impellers are made of a titanium-aluminum alloy—and the engine computer has been reprogrammed to match. That might not sound like much, and it doesn’t even make a difference in the 0-to-60-mph time, which can be seen as both a nod to Porsche’s impressive launch-control system and an acknowledgment of the somewhat strict laws of physics. From 60 up, though, the S has the clear advantage: It beat the standard Turbo to 70 mph by 0.1 second; at 100, it opened up a half-second lead; by 150, there was a 1.6-second advantage; and the S got to 170 mph 2.4 seconds quicker, at which point we ran out of space for straight-line testing. On the oval, we managed a drag-limited 191 mph with the Turbo S. Credit the more-responsive turbos for improvements of a tenth or several when starting from a roll and in our passing tests. Achieving the best results in a Panamera Turbo requires a few additional pieces of equipment, most of which are made standard on the Turbo S: Porsche’s torque-vectoring system, an adaptive and adjustable air suspension, and the Sport Chrono Plus package with its accompanying launch-control function. The remarkable thing about the Turbo S isn’t so much its list of accomplishments but that it can achieve them while maintaining the serenity and usability that mark the best GT cars. This is not an either/or proposition, one where the aggressive settings negate the comfort; in Sport Plus mode, the suspension, steering, and transmission are called to attention but don’t call attention to themselves with flinty, darty, or unsettling behavior. There’s nothing keeping this Porsche from being drivable every day. While the powertrain tweaks are mostly academic in practice, those responsible can hardly be called underachievers. That said, this car breaks not the slightest of sweats, leading us to wonder what more the overbuilt-feeling chassis could handle. There’s really only one thing the Panamera can’t do: go unnoticed in traffic. If that problem has an engineering solution, we’re sure the Porsche folk would have found it by now. Porsche Macan fails moose test, Stuttgart responds
Tue, 14 Oct 2014Different countries have different safety standards, but most of them revolve around a similar set of tests: front impact, side impact, offset impact, rollover... the usual. But Sweden has its own test. It's called the Moose Test (or the Elk Test), and it's unique to Scandinavia: a car has to be able to avoid a theoretical antlered mammal on the road while traveling at 43.5 miles per hour and return to its previous course without flipping over. The Jeep Grand Cherokee ran afoul of the uniquely Nordic maneuver a couple of years ago, but even more surprising is the way the Porsche Macan has reacted.
Under testing by Sweden's Teknikens Värld, Porsche's downsized crossover - specifically the Macan S Diesel, for what it's worth - didn't flip over, but it skidded off course. In real-world conditions, it follows, the vehicle could run off the road or into oncoming traffic. The testers ran the test several times, and even removed excess weight from the vehicle, and each time it reacted the same way.
In response, Porsche has explained that the behavior is the result of its Active Rollover Protection system kicking in. When the system detects that the vehicle could drastically oversteer, flip over or lose its tire, it momentarily applies the brake on the front outside wheel, allowing the vehicle to shed the cornering forces without losing it completely.
Patrick Dempsey to take break from racing after career season
Mon, Mar 7 2016The popular American actor has decided to take a step back from racing to focus on his "family and acting career." Outside of motorsports, Dempsey's tenure on the hit TV show Grey's Anatomy as Derek Shepherd ended last year, as did his 16-year marriage to makeup artist Jillian Fink. They have since reconciled. Reaching the top step of the podium During that same year, Dempsey finally reached the top step of the podium in his professional sports car racing career, winning the Fuji round of the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship. Earlier in the season, he placed second in class in the prestigious 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance classic. His Dempsey-Proton Racing Porsche squad ended 2015 sixth in the GTE-Am standings. Along with four starts at Le Mans between 2009 and 2015, Dempsey competed in a total of 68 races between Grand-Am, ALMS and the recently formed hybrid of the two -- The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar championship. He scored nine podiums, which includes high profile races such as the Rolex 24, Sebring 12 Hours and Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta. Patrick Dempsey to focus on "family and acting" in 2016 But he will not add on to his growing racing resume this year. Dempsey has released a statement, announcing that he will not compete in any events this season, although his team will continue to do so. My motorsports journey has been a rewarding one and allowed me to meet so many interesting people. While the focus so often is the performance of the car, in reality it is all the various personalities, from team mates to competitors to officials to fans that I remember the most. I have loved being part of part of different teams and sharing the experience with so many great friends. I want to thank everyone who made this possible and helped me along the way. I also wanted to especially thank the fans for their support and friendship. None of this would happen without you buying the tickets and attending the races, so I am grateful for that investment in my passion. It makes me especially happy to see how many people have become race fans during my racing career. At this point in my life, after an amazing season thanks to my friends at Porsche and TAG Huer, I need to take a step back and focus on both my family and my acting career. Dempsey-Proton Racing will continue on racing a Porsche 911 RSR in the World Endurance Championship season. I hope my schedule permits me to enjoy some race weekends at least as a team owner.
Good Samaritan pulls key from hit-and-run driver
Mon, Feb 15 2016A man in England stopped a hit-and-run driver from fleeing the scene by grabbing her keys from the ignition. On February 13, Michael Scott witnessed a crash on a busy road in Birmingham, England according to the Telegraph. He watched as a Vauxhall Astra crashed into a Porsche right in front of his vehicle. At first, it seemed like the offending driver was going to stop, but she just kept going. Luckily, Scott had his dashboard camera rolling at the time. "I was shocked when the Astra driver didn't stop, and just carried on accelerating up the road," Scott told the Telegraph. "I thought the driver was trying to do a runner, so when the car in front of me moved off I managed to speed up and block the Astra in. Scott rushed ahead of traffic to cut off the Vauxhall in a turn lane a few hundred feet from where the crash originally occurred. The running driver then maneuvered around Scott, but was blocked by another car from making a clean getaway. Scott then nabbed the driver's keys to keep her from fleeing again. "I was in a rush so I couldn't stop, but I gave her keys to the Porsche driver and left," Scott told the Telegraph. "I contacted the police to let them know I had footage of the incident too." When police arrived they found both drivers were unhurt, though the Porsche will probably need some expensive repairs. The fleeing driver was charged with drinking and driving and is currently out on bail.
