Porsche Australia racing chief dies in crash

The motor racing community in Australia was saddened today to learn of the passing of Jamey Blaikie, a longtime racing administrator and former motorsport director for Porsche in Australia. A former racing driver in his own right, Blaikie was better known for his instrumental role in starting the Porsche Carrera Cup in Australia back in 2003. He left Porsche Cars Australia just last year to pursue other interests, including running an Aston Martin entry in the GT Asia series. Blaikie was in Fiji reportedly undertaking charity work there when his rental car collided with a truck, prematurely ending his life at just 52 years old. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and the motorsport community Down Under, where he'll surely be missed.

Porsche 912 is no longer the brand's black sheep

If you haven't looked recently, prices for many vintage Porsche 911s are now well out of the realm for mortal men to purchase. However, the growing values have their advantages because they mean that the 912 is being better accepted as a member of the Porsche family. In a new video, Petrolicious talks to one owner about his mildly modified example while the coupe zips through the backroads and city streets of France. Launched around the time of the 911, the 912 shared its body but retained the four-cylinder engine from the 356, rather than the new six. The older mill helped make the 912 cheaper to buy, but it also tarnished the coupe in the eyes of Porsche fans for years. Much like the four-cylinder 914 and 924, the 912 just seemed like a black sheep in the shadow of its more powerful brother. Following two massive changes to his life, Julien Borne bought a 1967 912 as a project to get back on the road. After hours of welding, wrenching and beating out panels by hand in his grandparents' neglected country house, he crafted this gorgeous example. Porsche in Paul Walker fatal accident was traveling over 100 mph before crash

The Porsche Carrera GT involved in the November crash that killed Fast and Furious star Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas was traveling at speeds above 100 miles per hour before Rodas lost control for "unknown reasons," according to a report from the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office that has been acquired by The Hollywood Reporter.
Once control was lost, the Porsche spun, hit a curb and then impacted a tree and a light post, then it spun 180 degrees and hit another tree before erupting in flames, the report said. Neither Walker nor Rodas were under the influence of any drugs or alcohol at the time of the incident, according to toxicology reports conducted by the coroner.
As for the future of the Fast and Furious franchise, a separate by The Hollywood Reporter claims director James Wan, writer Chris Morgan and Universal Studios will move forward with the seventh installment in the franchise, which was only partially completed when Walker was killed.
