2007 Boxster S/Ruf 3400K Ruf Automobile GmbH, located in Pfaffenhausen Germany, is the largest and most respected manufacturer of enhancements for Porsche cars and is recognized as an automobile manufacturer by the German government. Ruf cars are noted for their performance coupled with Porsche factory levels of refinement and reliability. Ruf cars can be purchased as either a Ruf built car, and carry a Ruf VIN or a Porsche can be modified by Ruf in which case it would carry a Porsche VIN. Due to California smog and licensing issues, this 2007 Boxster S/Ruf carries a Porsche VIN. The car was purchased new in August 2007 and shipped to Ruf USA (then in Dallas, Texas) for installation of the Ruf 3400K drivetrain, the Ruf package for the 987 Porsche Cayman/ Boxsters. The modifications include the addition of a supercharger, reduced compression ratio, larger oil cooler and larger coolant radiators. Ruf lists the ouput of the 3400K as 400HP however, a few Ruf employees have indicated that the real output is more like 440 HP. This car sure feels like it! This car has a limited slip differential, Ruf instrumentation, steering wheel, springs, short shifter and other details. The total cost of the Ruf enhancements was $43K. In Porsche's product offering, the Turbos provide the best straight line performance and the mid engined Boxster/Cayman, the best handling. The Ruf modified Boxster combines the best of both, Turbo levels of straight line performance with Boxster/Cayman handling. Porsche Australia racing chief dies in crash

Wed, Dec 10 2014

The motor racing community in Australia was saddened today to learn of the passing of Jamey Blaikie, a longtime racing administrator and former motorsport director for Porsche in Australia. A former racing driver in his own right, Blaikie was better known for his instrumental role in starting the Porsche Carrera Cup in Australia back in 2003. He left Porsche Cars Australia just last year to pursue other interests, including running an Aston Martin entry in the GT Asia series. Blaikie was in Fiji reportedly undertaking charity work there when his rental car collided with a truck, prematurely ending his life at just 52 years old. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and the motorsport community Down Under, where he'll surely be missed.

Porsche Cayman GTS in track battle with 996 GT3

Wed, 09 Jul 2014

Here's your tough question of the day: Would you rather drive a new Porsche Cayman GTS or a slightly older, 996-era Porsche 911 GT3? Certainly, both cars have their plusses. The Cayman is the more modern proposition, sure, but the GT3 is, well, a GT3. So yes, it's a tough decision.
If you're one of the lucky souls that have to make that choice, then this video from Evo should prove pretty helpful. It's a track battle, starring Jethro Bovingdon with a new GTS and an old GT3.
Calling the GTS "fantastically agile" and "fast, but it's also hilariously good fun," Bovingdon bangs home a solid lap time of 1:05.2 before switching to the GT3. It's remarkable to see just how dated the 996-generation 911 looks after viewing the newer Porsche, and from where we sit, it's further proof that the old car's headlights are something that's best forgotten. Styling qualms aside, though, can the GT3 keep up with its racy younger cousin?
