CLEAN TITLE AND VEHICLE HISTORY REPORT

For the 50th anniversary of the 550 spyder, Porsche issued its first limited edition anniversary model. This car is #844 out of 1953 cars produced worldwide. As the last and greatest 986 boxster produced, the 550 edition is the most powerful and refined of the model run. Porsche made an effort to make this a special car. Features unique to this rare car include: An increase in horsepower over the boxster S. The wheels are positioned in a wider stance for a more aggressive look. The GT silver metallic paint was only available on this special edition 986, and on the carrera Gt super car. On newer porsche models it is an expensive special order color. A cocoa brown power top is exclusive to this edition. The 18" carrera wheels have centers that are painted seal gray and all red taillights set it apart from standard model boxsters. The rear diffuser has a silver mesh that further distinguishes this model and the car has a special exhaust system with a specially tuned note and unique stacked exhaust tips. The entire interior is covered in full leather in Cocoa (a dark brown). This leather is unique to this edition of the 986. It is easily the most striking and expensive looking interior color available. Leather covers the door panels and dash as well as the hard back sport seats. The interior boasts gt silver painted door pulls, dash trim, and center console. Special perforated leather covers all gripping surfaces and the gauge rings are chrome. The factory shortened the shifter throws and gave it a spccial aluminum and leather gearshift knob with perforated boot. Beyond all this, the factory threw in just about all of the factory options including the Bose hi-end stereo system w/ rear sub, litronic headlights, heated seats, and trip computer. Widely noted to be the most collectible 986 boxster.

Preparing for Le Mans 2014 Porsche remembers 1971 and the 917 [w/video]

Sun, 07 Apr 2013

Porsche has given us another look back at its successes at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This time it's 1971, the year that its 917 set records that haven't all been eclipsed. It's 45-kilogram magnesium tube frame was the lightest, Jackie Oliver set the fastest in-race lap with a time that still stands, and winning drivers Helmut Marko - the same Helmut Marko currently with Infiniti Red Bull Racing - and Gilles Lethem did so many laps that their distance wasn't exceeded until the Audi R15 TDI did it in 2010.
1971 was also the year of the "Pink Pig." With bodywork created by a French aerodynamics firm, the wider, rounder 917 earned the porcine moniker so Porsche painted it pink and labeled it with the cuts you'd get from a pig. Sponsor Martini was so miffed they demanded all Martini branding be removed. No one can remove the thousands of photographs taken of the car ever since. Enjoy that and more in the video below.

Porsche Macan teaser reveals unique quad-LEDs

Fri, 11 Oct 2013

In truth, all-but-undisguised prototypes for the upcoming Porsche Macan compact crossover have been spotted galavanting all around the globe for some time now, but even the least-camouflaged examples have been caught wearing eyepatches covering their headlights and taillights. A dark new teaser image from Porsche clues us in to why that is - the baby Cayenne is getting unique quad-LED peepers up front.
Porsche has been hinting at lighting innovations in its production cars through recent concept reveals, including the stunning Porsche Panamera Sport Turismo showcar from last year's Paris Motor Show. The wagonized Panamera also featured four-point LED arrays up front, as well is in the rear, so it seems likely that this lighting will become a Porsche design signature going forward.
Powerpoint slides leaked from a recent dealer meeting suggest the Macan S will arrive packing a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6, while the Macan Turbo will boast a 3.6-liter force-fed unit, with both models receiving seven-speed PDK dual-clutch gearboxes. Pricing is expected to range from $52,000 for the S model to $75,000 for the Turbo.

McLaren boss' exclusive Porsche 935 Street is worth three 911 Turbos

Wed, 21 May 2014

McLarens may be exclusive, but there are still hundreds - if not thousands - of people out there who can say they own one. Mansour Ojjeh is one of them, but he doesn't just own a McLaren - he owns McLaren. As in, the company that makes the racing and exotic supercars. Or 25 percent of it, anyway. As the head of Techniques d'Avant Garde, Ojjeh is one of the British outfit's largest shareholders, previously having owned Heuer watches (before selling it to luxury giant LVMH) and engineered Porsche's most successful foray into Formula One - winning the world drivers' championship three times in a row and the constructors' title twice with Alain Prost and Niki Lauda behind the wheel of McLarens with Porsche engines developed and branded by TAG.
In short, he probably could get any McLaren he wanted at the drop of a hat, but also had strong ties to Porsche in the 80s, and this is the car he wanted. It's called the Porsche 935 Street, and it's the only one ever made. Inspired by the 935 racer that won Le Mans and over 120 other races, Ojjeh contracted Porsche Exclusive when it was still in its infancy to make him one for the road. So they took a 930 bodyshell, slotted in the 3.3-liter turbo flat-six from the 934 but cranked output up to 375 horsepower, and gave it the brakes, suspension, BBS wheels and wide-body aero from the 935 racer. They painted it a deep metallic red and trimmed the interior with cream leather and wood veneer.
When all was said and done, a total of 550 modifications were performed, detailed on a seventeen-page invoice and costing as much as three new 911 Turbos at the time. Ojjeh only put 12,000 miles on the odometer, running up and down the French Riviera, and has now put it up for sale at the upcoming Bonhams auction at Spa where it's tipped to fetch upwards of 300,000 euros - equivalent to $410k at today's rates, or, once again, the price of about three new 911 Turbos.
