2002 Porsche Boxster - Seal Gray - Seat Heat on 2040-cars

Year:2002 Mileage:117000
Location:

Santa Barbara, California, United States

This is my 2002 Boxster which I love but have decided to sell.  It's my third car and I literally have to force myself to drive it a few times a month.  I also have a company car so now I use it even less.  The car has spent almost its entire life garaged. I also keep it covered with an OEM Porsche cover that is included with the sale.

I have done the following work to the car:

·         Replaced the coolant tank due to a leak (this was a common problem with pre 2003 models.  Porsche updated the tank which is what I installed.

·         Replaced all the plugs with OEM plugs at 92k.

·         Replaced the water pump and thermostat and coolant at about 95k.  Dieters in San Diego did the work, they are highly regarded mechanics.  Used OEM Porsche coolant/parts.

·         Replaced the left rear wheel bearing at 95k - Dieters also did this.

·         Replaced the ignition switch.  This is actually an AUDI part and is a common failure in 986's.

·         New tires all around - OEM sizes.  They have about 2000 miles on them so they are good to go.

·         Rear lights were also upgraded to LED's but appear bone stock.  Front side markers were changed from yellow to grey and are an OEM Hella product.

·         Replaced the remote portion of the key fog, they wear out after a few years and the truck did not work as well.  It works now and looks like new.

·         Added an iPhone interface for the 4/4s that works with the factory radio.  I use it with my IPhone 5s with the Apple adapter but the adapter is NOT included with the car.

·         Recently replaced the headlights with some pre owned stock OEM Porsche headlights.  You will see in the picture that one has like a halo if you look at the right angle. Not noticeable unless you are looking at the correct angel.  What is noticeable is how clear these are compared to cars of this age.  Makes the entire care look great.

·         Added a lumbar adjustment. Basically an air bladder made for this specific application that you pump up with something that looks like a blood pressure hand pump thingy.  Hard to explain but it works and required zero modification to the car; you can slip it out if you don’t like it.

I work on a military base and have access to a full shop with a lift so I did all of the oil changes myself using the OEM filter and Mobil 1 full synthetic.  It was a breeze having the lift and I change the oil twice a year since I never reach the recommended mileage requirements set forth by Mobil and Porsche.  Plus I liked getting under the car.

Car engine is bone stock with the only modification to the body is that the rear "Boxster" badge has been changed to "986" to reflect the model number.  These numbers are OEM Porsche for the 968, I just changed the order.  It looks factory.

One nice feature I added is a hidden bike rack that accepts a 1-1/4 bike rack.  I had it fabricated and gave some to fellow Boxster owners.  I used it a few times but bought a truck so never really had a need for it.  If you didn't know about it, you'd never notice the car had one. I am including the bike rack as well.

The car has a few minor scratches which I have photographed (driver side has three white marks above the intake vent – the driver side by the turn light has a scratch) and some road pitting on the front that is not abnormal for a car with this mileage.  The top in original and the rear plastic is not crystal clear but not bad at all. I took a bunch of pictures of this looking inside and out of the plastic; you will see it’s pretty clear.  This car has lived most its life covered and that shows in the condition of the original top.  The windshield has three little rock chips that I've never had sealed but they are small and are not really noticeable.  This is NOT the rain sensing windshield so if you ever chose to replace, it won't end up costing you 2k.  It was never an issue with me.  The car will need pads in the next 5-10k miles depending on how you drive it.  For me that would at least have been a year to two years.

Please remember that you are purchasing a used car with over 117k miles on it at a greatly discounted price from MSRP.  Please don't expect a new car or even a car with 30k miles on it or even 80k.  If you want guarantees or warranties, purchase a new car from Porsche. Like most cars on eBay this car is sold AS IS with no warranty expressed or implied in the above description.  I personally think this car to be in better shape than most I've seen out there and have attempted to describe the car to the best of my ability.  Please realize your final bid is a contract to purchase the car, not to test drive or kick the tires.

Lots of new cars were unveiled in Munich this week. Here's what you might've missed

Thu, Sep 9 2021

The 2021 Munich Auto Show is happening this week and due to ongoing corporate travel restrictions, we remained firmly planted on this continent. So, although we can't tell you exactly what it's like inside the futuristic new Mercedes EQE electric sedan or fully appreciate the funky Volkswagen ID.Life concept, there's no shortage of details and analysis to provide.  Obviously, as Germany's premier auto show in 2021, the cars unveiled were primarily from the German brands. We also focused mostly on the cars that might actually make their way to the United States, or at least inspire those that will.   2023 Mercedes-Benz EQE is an electric alternative to the E-Class While the EQS paved the way for Mercedes' electrified future, much like the S-Class before it, the EQE stands to be the car that will move in far greater numbers -- much like the E-Class before it. Though perhaps a tad derivative of the Honda E, Volkswagen's blocky little crossover EV nevertheless represents a handsome new direction for VW design. We like this better than the rounded looks of the current ID.3 and ID.4.  2021 Volkswagen ID.Life concept View 20 Photos   BMW i Vision Circular is a 100% recycled and recyclable hatch Behold, the next BMW 3 Series! Just kidding. Besides this, BMW displayed cars in person for the first time that it had previously only unveiled on the interwebs, including the new 2 Series and revised iX3. It also unveiled some bikes. BMW i Vision Circular Concept View 63 Photos   Audi's GrandSphere concept was designed as a road-going private jet Does Audi know what a sphere is? Cause this isn't anything like one. Still, it's quite a handsome thing, and as one of three Sphere-branded concepts, previews the next direction of Audi design (which is pleasantly reminiscent of two-decade-old Mazda design). Evo sets up duel of Porsche 911s

Thu, 20 Mar 2014

What's better, rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive? That question has occupied auto enthusiasts for years, and so far, we've not really had a solid answer one way or the other. Evo has opted to take another whack at this tough question by pairing a pair of Porsche 911s against each other for a track battle.
In one corner, we have the two-wheel-drive 911 Carrera S, complete with the lickity-split PDK transmission, a sports suspension and carbon-ceramic brakes. In the other corner, it's the all-wheel-drive 911 Carrera 4S in a much mellower spec, with a seven-speed manual, as well as standard brakes and suspension. While the results seem like they'd be a foregone conclusion, some very British weather is there to act as the great equalizer.
We've got the full video down below. Have a look, and let us know if you agree with Evo's results.

Porsche sells final 918 Spyder amidst excellent year of sales

Fri, Dec 12 2014

2014 has been a banner year for Porsche, as the company has moved over 169,000 units through November, an increase of around 12,000 units over the same period in 2013. During last month alone, the company's sales saw a year-over-year jump of 25 percent. The European market, meanwhile, saw an 18-percent jump in sales, while its North American efforts have jumped 13 percent. "This strong November is evidence that our strategy is working extremely well," Porsche board member Bernhard Maier said in the accompanying statement. "It also confirms our commitment to taking advantage of every opportunity presented in the global markets." Those notable sales gains aside, this latest sales report comes with some bad news for the overwhelming majority of Porsche fans – the last 918 Spyder has been sold. All 297 cars have been spoken for, with US deliveries set to begin soon. According to Porsche, there are currently around 100 Spyder owners spread across Germany and China. Porsche exceeds previous year's sales by November Last unit of the 918 Spyder sold Atlanta. Porsche AG increased global deliveries to customers from January to November this year to more than 169,000 vehicles, already exceeding the overall total for 2013 of 162,145 new vehicles. This represented a growth of 15 percent over the same period last year (January to November 2013: 147,290 vehicles). In the month of November, Porsche delivered 17,700 vehicles – an increase of one quarter over the same month last year. "This strong November is evidence that our strategy is working extremely well," said Bernhard Maier, Member of the Executive Board – Sales and Marketing of Dr. Ing. h.c. F. Porsche AG. "It also confirms our commitment to taking advantage of every opportunity presented in the global markets." In Europe, Porsche delivered 54,500 vehicles from January to November 2014 – an increase of 18 percent over the previous year, with the domestic German market accounting for 22,200 of the sales. The American region also showed a significant 13 percent increase over last year with a total of 51,600 deliveries. In addition, November announced the finality of sales for the 918 Spyder hybrid super sports car. With a limited run of 918 units, the majority of the cars – 297 – will be shipped from the Zuffenhausen manufactory to buyers in the USA. In both Germany and China there are already around 100 proud new owners who have taken delivery of the super sports car.
