Just in time for our beautiful weather. I have your 2000 Basalt Black 986 in my garage with maintenance records and a clear California title in hand.

I am the second owner of this great 986. I bought it from a Porsche dealer in Atlanta, Georgia, in 2004 when it had 36,000 miles. I drove it to California in February of 2007. It has been my daily driver since. It has never been raced or wrecked. I had it smogged and renewed the tag in April 2013. I replaced the top in 2004.

These photos were taken in 2007 when I feared I'd have to sell the car. I'm grateful to have hung onto it for the last five years. It has been the most fun, reliable mode of transportation I've owned. I am selling the car to buy a motorcycle.

Paint was an upgrade option, and it still looks great, even though the condition is not perfect. Wheels are the upgraded 19-inch like on the ‘S’. I still have the plexiglass insert between rollbars that was part of the Touring Package. This car was sold with the smoke-free option: no ashtray  and no lighter, just a no-smoking cover on the accessory jack.

60K service performed at Porsche of Monterey; all other work done at an independent shop. New water pump and serpentine belt installed in 2011. Brand new windshield and wipers installed January 30, oil change, filter, and lube February 2, this year.

Three keys. Air-conditioning blows cold.

Brakes work fine, but pads are worn. It will require a brake job right away. The tires have 50% of tread left.

Other issues: The remote trunk-release cable needs to be reattached. (You have to open the trunk from inside the car.). The driver's side window regulator needs a little help. The headrest mesh wind deflectors are missing. Sun visor mirror flaps are broken off. A spot of leather is a bit worn. The convertible top’s rear window is fogged.

Kelley Blue Book estimated this car’s worth at $10,877 in ‘fair’ condition. I'm knocking off $1,300 which is the estimate I got for the brake job. Give me $9,600, and the car is yours.

Parents of terminally ill child sue after son dies following make-a-wish-style ride

Wed, 30 Jul 2014

Some stories are so sad and depressing, they make you want to go back to bed and pull the covers over your head. This is one such story. 14-year-old Raphael Wittman was suffering from an unspecified form of terminal cancer when he was invited by the children's cancer charity Kinder Krebs Hilfe to a charity drive organized by Porsche Forum Austria. During the drive, the Porsche Boxster Wittman was riding in was involved in a head-on collision. Both of his legs were broken and he bit off his tongue in the wreck. He died seven weeks later, in a Vienna hospital. Now, his father is suing the charity, claiming that the accident robbed his son of the will to live.
"The accident set off a chain of events starting with the doctors putting him on new medication for the cancer he had. He was always a fighter, but suddenly he was saying that he was not going to fight any more," Franz Wittman told Austria's Kurier, according to The Guardian. "We would have had a wonderful last time together [on vacation] but it never happened because of the accident."
Father and son were originally planning to go to Tenerife to spend time together, although those plans were cancelled following the accident.

1950s car ads are timeless

Sat, Aug 8 2015

Usually around the Super Bowl a few great car commercials show up, but for the most part auto ads today pale in comparison to the '1950s and '60s. In an era with a truly viable magazine industry, automakers would take out gorgeous full-page spreads to get the word out about their wares. It was also a time when imports were just hitting the US, and there was a boom in sports cars. Car and Driver has gone for a dig into its advertising archives from when the book was known as Sports Cars Illustrated for a truly great viewing experience. You can imagine a young Don Draper mulling over the copy for these ads, but some of it is laughably quaint today. For example, there's a great image of a driver whipping an Austin-Healey 100 around a track. The italicized red text proudly proclaims, "From 0 to 60 MPH in 10.5 seconds." One of the beautiful parts about these advertisements is that you seldom see photos of the cars. Instead, there are often detailed drawings that slightly distort the vehicles' lines. With this approach, the Porsche 356 ends up looking far more curvaceous than in real life. Plus, the front end of the Chrysler 300 looks large enough to land a helicopter on. The whole thing is worth scrolling through. There are some fascinating glimpses into auto history like an ad for Abarth exhausts before the brand was just known for tuning Fiats. Watch 1,208 Porsche 911s collect at Silverstone for world record

Mon, 29 Jul 2013

Porsche has been spending the majority of 2013 celebrating the 50th birthday of the 911, with its latest stunt taking the German brand to the home of British motorsports, Silverstone. To celebrate, Porsche invited enthusiasts to take their personal 911s on a lap of the former airfield, and boy, did the Porschephiles show up. 1,208 911s took part in the lap around the Grand Prix circuit, making it the largest-ever gathering of the iconic, rear-engined cars.
This wasn't just a celebration of 50 years for the 911, though. Funds raised were channeled towards Hope For Tomorrow, a cancer charity that works with the United Kingdom's National Health Service in operating mobile chemothereapy units that make life just a little bit easier on cancer patients.
Take a look at the long video below, and enjoy the passing of what are likely examples of every 911 model ever built.
