I've got a 1991 Porsche 944 Cabriolet S2. It's the last of the 944's and one of the rare cabriolets. I got it as a toy and a little project, but my wife says something has to go if I want a motorcycle, so it has to go. It isn't perfect, but it does have a very good set of records. I have a brief summary below:

  • 66K Clutch replacement, O2 sensor, Fuel pressure regulator,
  • 68K Replaced engine with used unit with new timing belt, aux shaft, soft seals, thermostat, aux shaft
  • 95K Timing belt, radiator & hoses, timing belt, brakes, fan switch
  • 111K Gear oil change, brake fluid hoses, engine mounts,
  • 115K Throttle switch
  • 122K MAF sensor
  • 127K Timing belt, acc belt, rollers, tensioner guide, water pump, temp sensor,
With that, the good:
  • Power top works flawlessly
  • Power windows work flawlessly
  • Runs great
  • Shifts smooth
  • Tires have ~60% tread life left
  • Clean carfax
  • No engine or transmission leaks
The bad:
  • A/C doesn't work, its all hooked up, but doesn't turn on. Rest of the climate control works fine. In all likelihood it is either a vacuum issue or a relay issue.
  • Rear window/rear half of the convertible top could use redone. The window has a small crack that leaks a little and the rear half of the top is worn, but still holds water, crack excepted.
  • The rear inner shift boot on the drivers side is torn.
  • The leather is worn (as shown)
  • The rear seats got wet and it dissolved the glue. Included is a spare set of rear seats. they would need reglued.
  • The radio works, but is finicky and sounds crappy.
I would prefer to show the car to perspective buyers. I will also take any pictures you want, or answer any questions you may have. Deposit is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction. Thanks for looking!

First-ever Porsche headed home to company museum

Wed, 29 Jan 2014

About 30 years before Ferdinand Porsche designed the Volkswagen Beetle, he created the Egger-Lohner electric vehicle, C.2 Phaeton model - or simply, the P1 - you see above. This was the first vehicle created by Porsche, and the car gets its nickname from the fact that he had stamped "P1" on many of the parts marking it as the first Porsche... sorry, 356 No. 1.
Now while you'd think that such an important piece of Porsche heritage has been in a museum or even the automaker's not-so-secret lair, it has actually been sitting at a warehouse for the last 112 years. Thankfully, that's all about to change as Porsche has recovered P1, and the car will soon be on "permanent display" at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart.
The P1 has a 3 horsepower motor capable of delivering a top speed of 21 miles per hour and a driving range of 49 miles, and, like many vehicles in Porsche's history, the motor is positioned at the rear of the vehicle. According to the press release posted below, the P1 finished first in a 24-mile electric vehicle race in Berlin in 1899, but it has been sitting since 1902.

Second Fiddle Moves To First Chair
In the interest of full disclosure and a bit of bloodletting, allow me to admit that while I've always coveted the Porsche Boxster and its hard-hatted Cayman cousin, I've never really warmed to them visually. They've always had a certain push-me, pull-you, can't-decide-which-way-they're-going aesthetic that I've never really wrapped my head around. Porsche achieved the same thing with the original 550 Spyder's overturned bathtub bodyshell that would come to inspire the Boxster, but somehow that classic's even more symmetrical nature works for me. Fast-forward to this third generation, and at least for this enthusiast, Porsche's manchild has well and truly come of age as a design.
It's all there - a piercing stare thanks to squircle headlamps inspired by the 918 Spyder hypercar, newfound directional thrust afforded by a longer wheelbase and elongated greenhouse, and muscular rear haunches with a wider stance emphasized by larger side ductwork and snubbed overhangs. The body's teardrop shape terminates with an active spoiler that integrates into a gorgeous arc with the taillamps like a budding ducktail nod to 1973 911 Carrera RS. Despite casting a longer shadow than its predecessor, the 2014 Cayman still looks tidily proportioned, smooth and wieldy, the perfect skipping stone to ricochet down a canyon river road.

Porsche 911 Targa leaks out ahead of Detroit debut

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

With the doors of Cobo Center opening for the 2014 Detroit Auto Show this morning, Porsche is set to reveal its new 911 Targa in a matter of hours. But before it gets the chance, the first batch of images have already leaked out, courtesy of Chinese car site autohome.com.cn.
As expected, the new Targa appears to ditch the complex sliding glass roof panels that adorned recent versions of the semi-convertible 911 in favor of a more back-to-basics approach. An entirely removable roof panel opens up the sky, backed by a metallic B-pillar hoop in front of a large curved-glass rear window.
We'll have to wait just a little longer for the full scope of images and all the official details, but we're expecting the new Targa to carry most of the same technical specifications as the 991 on which it's based. Watch this space for more.
