1989 944 Turbo S (951) - Red With White Interior - Very Good Condition on 2040-cars
San Jose, California, United States
1989 Porsche 951 (944 Turbo) in very good condition. 113K miles. Runs great. I have owned it for the last 19 years and never raced it. I'm the 3rd owner, and the car has always been in California All original except for the following and regular maintenance items: 1. Computer chips replaced with AutoThority chips to increase engine power. This was done prior to my purchasing the car 19 years ago. I have the original chips and will include them. 2. Blaupunkt cassette/radio replaced with Blaupunkt CD/radio. I have the original and will include it. Major Mechanical Repairs: 1. The only one I can think of is the clutch, which has been replaced twice. Collision Damage: 1. A truck backed into the drivers side while the vehicle was parked which damaged the door and front fender. Both were repaired and repainted. Major Defects: 1. The drivers seat has a tear and is worn. This is shown in one of the photographs. 2. The air conditioner does not work. However, I believe that it is mechanically fine and needs to have the Freon recharged. Because this has the original air conditioning system, it uses R12 with has been phased out. I chose to not recharge it some number of years ago because of the high price and the good weather here in northern California. Minor Defects: 1. The speaker in the driver's door stops working every once in a while. There is an intermittent connection somewhere, but I have not been able to find it. Included Extras: 1. Saratoga glass top. The top works fine but is in need of repainting the aluminum trim, and replacing the weather stripping. This is shown in the photographs. 2. Useable mats. These are shown in one of the photos. 3. All maintenance records. 4. Original computer chips and cassette/radio (see above). Maintenance is up-to-date except for the timing belt, which is now due for replacement. All maintenance and mechanical repairs have been done by a well regarded independent Porsche shop, CT Automotive. 1989 was the last year that the 944 Turbo was available in the U.S., and the 1989 model was the fastest. It had many upgrades over the previous years. These are explained in the photo of a sales brochure. Please contact me with any questions. |

Porsche 911 Targa 4 GTS caters to a very specific customer [w/video]
Mon, Jan 12 2015Porsche is happy to cater to some very specific buyer demographics, and the brand's newly unveiled 911 Targa 4 GTS at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show is the perfect example of that tendency. The sports coupe is aimed at the customer who wants open-air driving without a full convertible, all-wheel drive traction and a little extra performance, all wrapped in a sporty package. Launching in the US in late-April, 2015, for $132,800, plus a $995 destination charge, this high-performance Targa benefits from all of the goodies from Porsche's GTS line. That gives it a 3.8-liter flat-six boasting 424 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of twist, and the choice of either a seven-speed PDK or seven-speed manual. The model also gets the Sport Chrono package, PASM, 20-inch wheels and a sport exhaust. Picking the PDK means the Targa 4 GTS can hit a top speed of 188 miles per hour and sprint to 60 mph in 4.1 seconds. Opting for the manual makes the run to 60 take a few more ticks at 4.5 seconds and scarcely cuts the top speed to 187 mph. The Targa 4 GTS is more than just about boosted performance, and shows off some handsome styling tweaks, as well. It wears a modded front bumper with an extra opening to cool the middle radiator. Plus, the wheels are 20-inch units from the 911 Turbo S, and the Bi-Xenon headlights get smoked coverings. Inside, drivers are held firmly in place by Sport Plus seats covered partially in black Alcantara. Porsche apparently sees a hole in its lineup that a higher-performance Targa can fill, and here it is. Look below for a video of intricate top doing its fascinating dance and read the German brand's full press release about the its latest take on the venerable 911. The new 911 Targa 4 GTS More powerful, dynamic and exquisitely styled To mark the 50th anniversary of the 911 Targa, Porsche is offering this very popular model in the more powerful and dynamic GTS version for the first time. The targa concept of the 911 Targa 4 GTS delivers very safe driving enjoyment with all-wheel drive and a rollover protection bar; it also delivers open-air fun with a targa top that stows fully automatically. Contributing to a boost in dynamic performance are the 430 hp (316 kW) GTS engine together with the standard Sport Chrono package, PASM chassis, 20-inch wheels and a sport exhaust system.
Porsche revisits the 911's dirty side with rally history film
Fri, 03 Jan 2014It might not be a coincidence that there are rumors of Porsche revealing a safari version of the 911 at April's Beijing Motor Show, just as the Dakar Rally is about to begin. Adding fuel to the dusty desert fire is a just-released official video of Jeff Zwart driving the Porsche 953 that Jacky Ickx drove to victory in the 1984 edition of the race.
In the video, the seven-time Pikes Peak International Hill Climb winner talks about how he grew up with the 911; it wasn't only the car he learned to drive in, it was his choice of racecar no matter whether the course was tarmac or the dirty stuff.
You can decide for yourself if these recent events are mere coincidence while you enjoy the 953's exhaust note in the video below. If you've got the time to see the 953 during its race-conquering drive and find out what the ersatz Paris-Dakar Rally used to be, we've also included a broadcast of that 1984 race below as well. Fast-forward to 19:44 to see the Porsches cross the open dessert and 29:09 to watch one of them tackle the dunes.
2012 TechArt Porsche 911 is visually dazzling, both inside and out
Wed, 07 Mar 2012One way to ensure that your brand-new Porsche 911 (a.k.a. 991) won't look like the one in your neighbor's driveway is to give TechArt a call. The famed German tuner has rolled out its version of the latest Carrera and Carrera S at the Geneva Motor Show and trust us, it won't be mistaken for anything from the factory in Stuttgart.
Up front, TechArt has fitted its own unique two-part spoiler with integrated splitter while more aggressive side skirts adorn the rocker panels. The rear has a new lower diffuser, wrapped around the TechArt exhaust, and a large fixed rear wing (complete with an integrated third brake light). Look more closely to notice the subtle trim panels on the exterior mirrors and front headlights. The wheels are lightweight forged 20- and 21-inch alloys with matching paint on their rims.
Inside the heavily modified cabin are even more drastic enhancements (let's say TechArt has gone over the top). Don't let the aluminum pedals be a distraction as you inspect the black Alcantara and high-grade leather covering nearly every square inch. Flirting with gaudy, the dark upholstery is contrasted by vehicle-color-coordinated stitching and painted trim splashed throughout. However, the icing on the cake is an insanely thick TechArt three-spoke sports steering wheel.
