Up for the auction is my 1988 Porsche 944 Turbo (951).  This is a real Turbo-S model and one of the models initially marketed in a Silver Rose color, which was nicknamed the “Silberossa”.  This is very rare and a “Collectable Car” now!

Many sellers of 1989 944 turbo models are advertising their cars as “Turbo-S”, but it is not correct.  Those are just “944 Turbo’s” with the same spec as a “1988 951 Turbo-S” model.  The name “Turbo-S” should be applied only on 1988 special versions.  This is the copy of the article about a “Turbo-S”;

The Porsche 944 Turbo S represents what most authorities consider to be the highest performance version of the highly successful 944 product line. The Turbo S was introduced in 1988 as a limited production run, fitted in the same manner as the "Turbo Cup" race car.  In the following year (1989), the 944 Turbo maintained all of the performance characteristics of the 1988 Turbo S, but dropped the "S" designation.

The car has rather high mileage (136,700+), but has been maintained very well and is extremely clean inside and outside.  I think this is one of the best 944 Turbo models on the market.  Please look at the list below describing the items done on the car.

All electrical equipment is in good working order, heater & A/C works, and no oil/fluid leakage.

Engine Oil has been used AMSOIL which is the ”Best of the Best” in the market since I started my ownership, and it has been changed every 3,000 +/- miles.

Brake Fluid has been changed once a year with ATE DOT4 fluid.

Transaxle Oil was changed with AMSOIL at about 124,000 miles.

The car is in stock condition except the transaxle, headlights, stereo/radio unit, A/C system and heater control valve location.  The cycle valve which was replaced to a new one is there, but an HKS Boost Controller was installed and the stock cycle valve is disabled at the moment.

For the transaxle, it was changed to an S2 transaxle, and the original AOR transaxle is available; the case and gear Ass’y are separated, but all parts are in a set.  If you (winner) want, I can sell it you for $250.00 separately. The LSD and oil cooler of the original transaxle were transferred to the S2’s transaxle.  The LSD was overhauled and the Break-Away torque was set at 30 Nm +/-.

    >>> The original transaxle had no problems; smooth shift and no abnormal noises. I just like the gear ratios of S2’s better than the original gear ratios.

The headlights were converted to HID lights; slide type with H4 bulbs (6000K Bulbs).  Switching from the low to high, or vice versa, is very quick and smooth, and very bright.  You can enjoy easier and safer night driving.

The A/C system was converted to R134a refrigerant gas.

The heater control valve location was changed to the same design configuration as an S2 and a 968 model to make it easy to access the valve. Works very well.

The stereo is a Sony with an MD player.  It is not excellent, but OK with me because I don’t listen to radio or music so much while driving.

The HKS Boost Controller works very well.  The cyclic valve (or cycle valve) was changed to a new one, and the boost pressure reaches to 1.8 Bar (absolute pressure) with this normal spec configuration, but it is more fun to drive with the HKS Boost Controller.  At the moment, 1.9 Bar in the Normal Driving Mode and 2.0 Bar in the Scramble Mode.  If you want to remove the controller to return to the stock spec, it is easy to do.  The hoses are remaining at the original positions, so you just remove controller’s hoses and plug the original hoses to activate the cycle valve. The HKS Boost Controller manual (copy) comes with the car.

The Owner’s Manuals and other related documents, including receipts through the ownerships of the former owners and mine, come with the car.

    >>> There are two Owner’s Manuals; one has been kept in the car, and another has been on the shelf in my room in order to prevent it from getting dirty and damaged.

I am the 4th owner according to the CarFax report, but actually the 3rd; the 2nd and the 3rd are the father and his son.

The car has not been driven on rainy days - on the way it started raining several times, though - and never driven on snowy days.  Again, it is very clean inside and outside, and no rust and/or corrosion on the entire body.

The engine and clutch restorations were finished this spring and the car was re-registered then; passed VA Safety Inspection and Emission test.

   >>> The compression test of each engine cylinder was in excellent results with 150psi.  Pictures of cylinder test are available upon request. No oil leakage on the engine!!

The Title (VA Title) is clean and the CarFax is clean, too; the Title is in my hand.  Very rare and a “Collectable” car!

<Disclosures>

1.      On the CarFax report, the car is free from accidents, but the former owner hit the R/H front fender and it was repaired; no damage on the body structural part, just the fender and its fixing parts.  The car goes straight and has no vibrations.

2.      There are stone chips on the front part, which are very common on this type of car.

         >>> All paint-damaged parts were touched-up.  There is a small convexity on the hood; it was made by a screw driver when the hood was closed.  I forgot to take it out before closing.

3.      On the L/H rear fender and the roof, there are rubbing marks that appear to have been made by, for example, a sand storm.  Cannot feel them by finger and cannot see them in the pictures.  Can only see them from specific directions. 15 feet away or farther away, cannot see them at all.

4.      There are 2 cracks on the dashboard.  Both were fixed by using Vinyl Repair Kit, but it was difficult to access the left one when it was repaired causing poor result.  Another one was done well, but the color matching was not done yet.  Please look at the picture.

5.      The wheels were refurbished during the former ownership, but paints on edges of some wheels are peeled.  They were made when the tires were changed at the tire shop. (They can be seen on the pictures.)  They are not curbed damages.

I believe I listed all items, but am not sure.  If you have any questions on this car, please feel free to ask.  Again, this car is in excellent condition, very clean and very fast!

Thank you for your watching my auction and happy bidding!

2014 Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet spotted testing in the nude

Tue, 16 Jul 2013

The Porsche 911 wouldn't be the Porsche 911 unless there were twenty-something different models to choose from (note: we are not complaining), and the latest one was just spied by our trusty photographers out on Germany's Nürburgring. Feast your eyes on the 911 Turbo Cabriolet - the droptop version of the new Turbo wonder that debuted in May - looking all sorts of stealth in its black-on-black-on-black prototype scheme.
Mechanically, the 911 Turbo Cab should be identical to the fixed-roof version, meaning a twin-turbo 3.8-liter flat-six engine will live in the car's rump, putting out something like 520 horsepower. Of course, there's also the hotter Turbo S version of the coupe, and we expect that to get the droptop treatment, as well, with 560 horsepower on tap. The added weight of the folding top and additional structural supports will likely make for slightly slower 0-60 times for both cars, though considering the base Turbo will hit 60 miles per hour in 3.2 seconds, "slower" is a very relative term indeed. All that force will run to the ground via all-wheel drive, managed by Porsche's seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission.
The wide stance of the 911 Turbo Coupe carries over to the Cabriolet, no doubt fitted with the same (standard) 20-inch wheels. Inside, the usual luxury amenities will be on hand, along with nearly endless customization options.

2015 Porsche Boxster GTS [w/video]

Thu, 22 May 2014

You know the sound: the startling pop-brraaap-pop-pop shotgun fire of unspent flammables coursing through exhaust pipes that usually signals a raw, naughty powerplant beneath the hood.
But when you're nestled in the Porsche Boxster GTS' snug seats, it's not a crackling small block V8 or a high-strung Italian flat crank making the devilish racket, but rather the new king of the Boxster/Cayman lineup, a 3.4-liter flat-six that produces 330 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque.
Within the emotional vacuum of a spec sheet, the Boxster GTS' pumped-up grunt seems pretty mild, with a gain of only 15 hp and 7 lb-ft, respectively. But the reworked acoustical experience goes a long way towards suggesting the GTS has a trace of racing blood in its veins, and might even be missing its catalytic converters. In addition to the sonorous, centrally positioned tailpipes, the cabin also fills with lovely mechanical strains thanks to the "Sound Symposer" acoustical amplifier that's trickled down into the Boxster/Cayman lineup from the 911 for the first time. Boxster S, we hardly knew ya.

Porsche board members facing another ˆ1.8B lawsuit over VW takeover bid

Mon, 03 Feb 2014

Back in 2008, Porsche got the bright idea that it could take over Volkswagen in the midst of the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. Ignoring that this was a catastrophic move for the Stuttgart sports car manufacturer that that eventually resulted in it nearly going bankrupt and eventually being taken over by the same company it sought to control, the aftermath has left Porsche Chairman Wolfgang Porsche and board member Ferdinand Piëch in the crosshairs of seven hedge funds that lost out during the takeover and are now seeking €1.8 billion - $2.43 billion US - in damages from the two execs, according to the BBC.
See, investors bet on Volkswagen's share price going down, partially because Porsche said it wasn't going to attempt a takeover. But Porsche was attempting to take over VW, having bought up nearly 75-percent of VW's publicly traded shares. When word broke that Porsche owned nearly three-quarters of VW (which indicated an imminent takeover attempt), rather than go down like the hedge funds bet it would, VW's share price skyrocketed to over 1,000 euros per share, according to Reuters.
Naturally, when you bet that a company's share price is going to drop and it in turn (temporarily) becomes the world's most valuable company, you lose a lot of money, unless you're able to buy up shares before prices jump too much. This led to a squeeze on the stock, which the hedge funds accuse Porsche and Piëch (who are both members of the Porsche family and supervisory board) of organizing.
