1987 Porsche 944 Turbo ( 951 ) on 2040-cars
East Hartford, Connecticut, United States
For sale is a beautiful 1987 944 Turbo. I spent many hours working and modifying this vehicle and getting it to where it is today. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and I have no choice but to sell. Let me start out by saying this car is NOT STOCK! It has been modified! With that said it has been modified to modernize the vehicle in how it operates and performs. These are good things if you want more power and a smoother drive! The car runs great and the engine is very strong with great leak-down test results! Car shifts great with no grinding! This car is a blast to drive and I thoroughly enjoy on-ramps and windy roads! These cars were know for there 50/50 weight distribution and are not rear-end heavy like their 911 Cousins. The car looks great and I get many compliments when I go out. This car is complete and a true daily driver! Although the car has never been dynoed I estimate this vehicle to have approximately 340 rear wheel horsepower. The car has never been tracked and was garaged for most of its life. The car starts every time and idles great! It has a nice deep growl but nothing to crazy! Engine: Fresh Rebuilt Engine Low Miles on it. No scoring on cylinder walls. Fresh rebuilt cylinder head with valve guides replaced. (New Head Gasket and Timing Belt) New spark Plugs and wires Mods: Tial Dual Port Wastegate (factory was single port) / Black Knob Boost Controller / In Console Boost Gauge / In Console Innovate Air/Fuel Ratio Gauge / Fuel Rail Pressure Gauge / Silicone Vacuum Hoses throughout / Aluminum Lightweight Racing Flywheel Spec Stage 1 Clutch / Full 3" Lindsey Racing Exhaust included with High Flow Cat insert or Straight Pipe insert / Lindsey Racing Super 53 Turbocharger (Garrett Hybrid), Less than 5,000 miles on new turbo / The Turbo is much bigger than the stock unit but is much more advanced and is a good ratio of power to lag. This is a dry turbo set-up (oil cooled only) and the stock coolant lines to the turbo have been removed and blocked off. 55# Fuel Injectors / Billet Blow Off Valve. I run the vehicle (as do many others) without the front plastic engine cover. This allows easy viewing of the belts to monitor their condition. Engine Management: This vehicle was recently set up with a Rogue Tuning Custom Tune System (M-Tune Varient) complete with MAP Sensor, Quad MAF Unit, and Custom Rogue Tuning Chips. This system has a can be made to work with E-85 and but currently chipped for premium unleaded fuel with overboost protection set at 18 PSI to ensure longevity of the engine. This Rogue Tuning System is night and day over the old 1980's stock computer chip and air box set up. More information can be found on this website: www.roguetuning.com Body Upgrade: Fiberglass Front Splitter / Fiberglass Vented Nose Panel (helps get more air into intercooler) Fresh Paint Job (2yrs old) 17" Factory BBS Wheels painted charcoal gray. The vehicle has really low miles, a clean history, and is accident FREE! Here are some issues so there are no surprises: The A/C Compressor will need to be replaced these can be sourced used or new on Ebay. Body: There is a small paint chip on drivers side door and one on the passenger side mirror. A paint chip kit could be ordered and this issue fixed easily I just don't have the time. There is a little paint overspray in the engine compartment and underneath the vehicle. Overall the paint looks fresh and bright!! Interior: The passenger seat has a small tear near the seam and the arm rest has a tear near the hinge. The interior is overall in really great shape. There is a small imperfection on the dash board where it looks like the previous owner repaired a small dash crack. All three of these issues are common on these 25+ year old cars. These cars are classic and not everything is going to be perfect as if it just rolled off the assembly line. Other details: The car is currently running the stock suspension which still performs great. I would recommend upgrading to a stiffer suspension if you were planning on tracking the vehicle. Same goes for the brakes...these are stock Brembo units that work great but if you were to track the car I would maybe upgrade them to a more modern setup. I don't have the spare tire or the jack in the vehicle or the original sales documents or user manual. Cruise Control is not hooked up and not sure if it works. The huge stock steering wheel was taken off and replaced with a small MOMO race three spoke wheel! The horn button on the wheel does not work but I have installed a dedicated red Horn button to the left of the wheel on the front dash. If you have any other questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email and ask! I've really tried to include everything I can think of so you can bid with confidence!!!! |

Top horsepower-per-dollar cars in 2017
Tue, Feb 17 2015Bang for the buck. That quasi-scientific statistic is bandied about by motor heads everywhere from classrooms to barrooms, though the truth of the matter is that it's exceedingly complex to measure. A fair performance-per-dollar index would include something like cross-referencing MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) with point-to-point times on a track or driving route, which is obviously hard to do comprehensively. But, for the sheer joy of talking about cars and playing with a big spreadsheet, there's always the horsepower-per-dollar index, which is more straightforward, albeit hilariously flawed. There are vagaries even with this simple formula, of course: MSRP for vehicles can change at a moment's notice, to say nothing of the bottom-line shifting that happens with local deals or showroom negotiation. For this list we're running with the straight MSRP wherever possible, and as recently reported as we can get it. All the vehicles on this list are 2017 models, and all trims are reported where the lowest price and differing power levels intersect. Some choices were made for personal preference and some for sanity, avoiding things like all 48 trim levels of the Ford Transit, all with the same horsepower). If this list were a simple top ten, or even a top fifty, you'd be bored to tears with all the red, white and blue that is represented. Following perfectly with conventional wisdom, American cars really do lead the world where hp/$ is concerned. So, for the sake of variety (and the sheer joy of seeing a minivan 'win' one round of this thing) I've sorted out some top five and bottom five lists for broad power categories. Let's dive in. Less Than 100 Horsepower Okay, okay, this is hardly a category we'll grant you. But we've often tried to click off all the sub-100-hp cars on sale in the US, and making this list gave us an excuse. It also illustrates that none of these smallish vehicles bring cheap horsepower to the table - for that you'll need a motorcycle. The segment-leading Chevy Spark (above) asks just over $139 for each hp, and that Smart Fortwo Electric Drive has hp on sale for about the same price as its very distant family cousin, the Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (insert your favorite Smart joke here... we know you want to).
CEO says Volkswagen's buying spree is over
Mon, 03 Sep 2012
After adding Italian motorcycle icon Ducati to its stable and spending $5.6 billion on the rest of Porsche, Volkswagen CEO Martin Winterkorn says he's done shopping for a while.
"We have enough to do at the moment in taking our twelve brands to where we want to be," Winterkorn tells German newspaper Handelsblatt.
Porsche 356 Outlaw is the other Continental
Wed, 25 Jun 2014In Porsche parlance, 'outlaw' basically means 'hot rod,' and that definition can vary from person to person. For Jack Griffin and his 1955 Porsche 356 Continental, it means taking a great car to start with and reworking it to become a classic coupe that fits its driver perfectly. The latest video from Petrolicious highlights Griffin's 356 and all of the personalization he has in the beautiful ride.
Griffin acquired this 356 in 1994, but it came in rough shape. That made it the perfect canvas to transform the coupe into the Porsche of his dreams. On the outside, only things like the hood-mounted fuel filler, louvered decklid and Fuchs wheels give it away as something special, but underneath, it is modernized to be a faster, more robust car. Griffin considers it "a piece of art on wheels."
Hearing the Continental name associated with Griffin's Porsche might be throwing you, since it's normally more associated with Lincoln, but Griffin tells the whole story of what makes it so special on his '55 in the video. Scroll down to get an automotive history lesson and check out this fantastic 356 hot rod.
