Rare Burgundy metallic 944 Turbo.
We bought this 944 with a second engine to be put in. After trying for several hours to drop it in from above, we gave in and took the entire front end out and lifted it in from below. After we got that far, I lost my second mechanic, my son, to girls and social life.
We have everything needed to finish this car, I just do not have the energy to do it alone.
We put in a newly rebuilt original turbo that was reworked to spool up at 1500 RPM and reduce turbo lag. As we prepared the engine, we installed a complete new set of timing belts, pulleys, and rollers. We have a complete set of Lindsey hoses to complete the job. You can see some of the hoses. They are in blue. The car had been a race 944 when we found it. It has the 911 Turbo wheels with a set of race tires. It has a short shifter installed as well as the limited shift rear end, and transmission cooler. It has 5 point restraint race seats in place. The engine is actually a 1987 engine, so it has an oil "temperature" line on the wiring that will not be used. It came with a set of Lindsey chips. I bought a set of high output fuel injectors. Once these are installed, Lindsey can program the chips to maximize the fuel ratio.
I wish I could finish this and see it drive, but I have other cars waiting to get into the garage shop.

Seinfeld takes Seth Meyers out in the perfect Porsche
Sat, 13 Jul 2013The latest episode of Comedians In Cars Getting Coffee features Seth Meyers of Saturday Night Live fame riding shotgun in what is a very special Porsche from host Jerry Seinfeld's collection: a 1973 911 Carrera RS 2.7. Seinfeld chose the "no-nonsense" sports car because he thought it fit his guest's personality (Meyers thinks motorcycles "are like the cigarette of transportation"), but we enjoy the chance to see one of these rare, über-valuable Porsches being driven on city streets - and in the rain, no less! What we don't like seeing is the Carrera RS being parallel parked behind a pick-up truck, though, fortunately, it seems that Seinfeld was able to avoid any front-end damage to the comparatively fragile Porsche.
Once at the coffee shop, the two comedians have a candid conversation about Meyers' time with SNL, from his early days on the show when he didn't think he was good enough to be a cast member to some of the high points in his career, such as SNL's "Really!?" segment that he performed in and how he became a writer for the show.
After coffee, when they're back in the car and Seinfeld opens up the throttle of the lightweight RS 2.7, he manages to eke out a big grin from Meyers - or maybe it was a grimace at the thought of driving in the rain on old tires. Whatever the case, be sure to watch the video below (and stay tuned until the end for a surprise).
Porsche looks back on very first 911 Turbo
Wed, 11 Jun 2014Porsche has really hit on a winning formula with its series of videos going inside its vault. So far, we've seen the V8 911 prototype, mid-engine test mule and aerodynamic prototype. The company is sticking with the 911 theme in the latest entry, but this time it's an actual production car - the very first 911 Turbo ever made.
Being the first Turbo would make it important enough, but the car was also a birthday present for Louise Piëch, daughter of Ferdinand Porsche and sister to Ferry Porsche, and she regularly used the car. The family didn't just hand her a random car off the assembly line, either. She got to make it her own with some interesting modifications. She supposedly even painted landscapes from inside the car.
You have to wonder what Piëch thought of her present. The early Turbos had a reputation for being a bit of a handful to drive. The boost tended to bring the power all at once, which wasn't always welcome when cornering. She deserves some honor just for driving the car on the curvy, alpine roads. Scroll down to learn about this important Porsche, and we can't wait to see what car the brand showcases next.
The pre-race and first in-race report from Le Mans
Sat, 22 Jun 2013The 2013, 90th anniversary edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has begun, tragedy marking the opening laps with the death of Allan Simonsen. We're at the track now as a guest of Audi and plan to stay through the evening, and even we haven't been able to find out what caused the accident - the only video is from just after the incident, and beyond the statement from ACO there's been no more news. The Aston Martin in the LM GTE Am class and its all-Danish drivers had taken pole in its class and was one of the favorites to win.
The pre-race report will come first, and even thought we can't spoil the race because we're only five hours into it at the time of writing, we'll put all of the news at the end in case you don't even want the updates.
Or you can go straight to the high-res galleries above.
