This is a NO RESERVE auction so bid with confidence, high bidder wins. You are looking at a 1984 Porsche 944 with approximately 81910 ACTUAL MILES. Not a car that has been rolled over, the last Florida Title was issued in 05/2007 with 58298 actual miles. The good: Car has a brand new Bosch Premium Battery with a 3 year warranty. In June I spent $500+ having new tie rod ends installed, four wheel alignment, and tire rotation. The car has new spark plugs, newer cap, rotor, and wires. Injectors were recently removed and cleaned. The throttle body has been replaced. Tires are in great shape with the newer phone dial style wheels. I replaced the DME relay and have a spare in the glove box. New sun visors and shifter boot. The dash is decent and has a new lay over cover. It is an aftermarket Stereo and CD. The sunroof works great, power windows go up and down. Blinkers and gauges function fine. The car starts good, transmission is strong, it rides out great. This is ABSOLUTELY a RUST FREE FLORIDA CAR that started life in Kentucky! Age Related: The interior is original in pretty good shape. In the photos you can see a small crack in the passenger seat. The rear hatch has a prop but need shocks. Driver side seat belt works but does not retract. The paint needs some attention from fading and age wear and tear. Hood releases fine but the interior mount is loose. The headlamps work but need a new relay as they come up but stay. The A/C blows cold but belt squeaks when on. And the driver side door handle needs adjustment as you need to pull it several times to open. This is not a $150K Turbo, it is a 29 Y/O 944. The exterior color is called light beige, one of four primary 84' colors. I have tried to to describe this vehicle as best I can. Deposit through Paypal unless otherwise agreed upon. Cash in hand for pick up unless other funds agreed on and verified by me. I have the Clear and Clean Florida Title in hand. You are welcome to see the car on Fort Lauderdale Beach at my condo. Porsche 959 Prototype started it all
Wed, 11 Sep 2013While Porsche was unveiling the new Nürburgring-dominating 918 Spyder downstairs in Hall 3 here at the Frankfurt Messe, there was another Porsche supercar quietly and discretely on display upstairs in the same hall. That, of course, was the 959. But not just any 959: this was the original Gruppe B prototype.
The 959 was first developed as a rally car in the early 80s to compete with the likes of the original Audi Sport Quattro S1, Ford RS200 and Lancia Delta S4. But Zuffenhausen soon saw its potential as a production road-going supercar, emerging as a technological marvel to challenge the decidedly linear approach of the Ferrari F40. It still stands as a groundbreaking supercar in its own right, but also lead to the first all-wheel-drive 911 Turbo and set the stage for the Carrera GT and aforementioned 918 Spyder that followed to cap the top of the evolving Porsche range.
This original Gruppe B prototype, which presaged the production 959, packed a 450-horsepower 2.8-liter twin-turbo flat-six into an even sleeker form than the final version that followed. We caught up with it on display as part of a display of 80s German classics, of which this 959 prototype immediately stood out as the pick of the proverbial litter. Porsche Classic launching branded motor oil for air-cooled boxer engines
Tue, 17 Jun 2014It's hard not to love the look of a classic Porsche. Whether it's the upside-down bathtub styling of the 356 or the gradual evolution of the 911, there is a little beauty in all of them. However, the older they get, the more that needs repaired to keep them on the road. Porsche Classic is helping out, though, by introducing its own brand of motor oil for the demands of the company's vintage, air-cooled engines.
Developed at the Porsche Development Centre in Weissach, Germany, Porsche Classic Motoroil comes in two weights - 20W-50 for the 356, 914 and 911 models up to the 2.7-liter G-Model and 10W-60 for 3.0-liters-and-up engines through the 993-chassis 911. The company claims that the air-cooled engines have different heat demands than traditional, water-cooled units, and this oil is made to meet those requirements.
According to Porsche, modern, synthetic oils are sometimes too effective when it comes to old engines. They are fantastic at sopping up debris, but those deposits are often holding archaic seals together. Suddenly removing them can cause leaks. The new oil is specifically designed to work with the old-fashioned materials found in its classics. The company also knows that most owners aren't driving their vintage cars everyday. So this formulation is more alkaline that normal to neutralize acids that they build up and corrode components.
