Winning Bidder of the auction (when listed two weeks ago) claimed wife had seizures the night before the auction ended and so he was distraught and could not follow through with the purchase. Then a few days later he offered me $1000 instead of what he had bid for the closing bid (almost $4000) (His reasoning was because he would have to buy an airline ticket to come and pick up the car)...his user name is ncgems57, he will be blocked from bidding on any future auctions.

The Porsche 928 won the European Car of the Year award for 1978, It came with aluminum doors which were galvanized for protection. Porsche upgraded the V8 engine to the 295 Horsepower engine in 1980, this has always been what created the name in performance for Porsche. If you read any of the blogs of 928 owners, they all say it is simply an amazing car, with amazing handling, and amazing speed.

This Porsche originally sold for $37,930

Low Retail (by NADA standards) is $8,100

Average Retail is $11,400

While High Retail is $15,200

In its current condition this car is between Low and Average Pricing by NADA standards. A new owner will NOT be disappointed!

This car’s details:

This is a beautiful 1980 928 Porsche that is still original, never having undergone a restoration. The car has had two titled owners, with the second buyer purchasing the car in 1985 and then changing the color from Porsche brown to Porsche red. It was done very professionally which is still apparent. Please note, there are some waterspots in the pictures, it had just rained shortly before I took them. Those are not flaws in the paint.

Electric Windows & Seats & Locks.

The Porsche has been parked inside storage now for almost 20 years, and is in excellent condition…but of course cannot be expected to be in perfect condition. I will attempt to list the flaws I have found. First of all, the car will require a new exhaust system (but truly sounds fantastic without it). The car starts and runs would expect, before it would start the fuel pump had to be changed from being stored for so long. It goes down the road just as would be expected, and stops without problems…the headlights even go up and down as would expected.

The only four things that I can find that it needs mechanically (besides the exhaust) would be better clean up under the hood to include either cleaning or adding an additional spring to the throttle. Most of the time it will pull back all of the way when you let it off the gas, but sometimes it doesn't travel that last 1/8th of an inch for 15-20 seconds. The passenger window also doesn't go down (Electric windows, driver’s works great). The electric antennae will also have to be replaced when a stereo is added, there is no stereo currently. I do not remember if it has AC, I think it does, but I know it is not charged, and I did not see the tach work when I drove it.

As for the body as you can see in the pictures this car is very clean…the only actual rust spot I could find is a dime size spot below the rear window on the driver’s side. I also took pictures of the bottom of the driver’s door which looks as if there eventually might be some paint peeling…the door is galvanized, so I do not think it is due to rust, and the bottom of the door is extremely clean. Again, I am simply trying to list everything I can find so a new owner will not in any way be disappointed.

Next, on to the interior…everything is leather, and for an obvious reason this was one of the only years they also did the dashboard in leather. As you can see in the picture as the leather dries it pulls at the seams of the dash, and this one is no different. The interior also smells like dry leather. The driver’s seat is comfortable, but you can tell the leather is harder than it should be…the passenger one is even drier. I put leather treatment on it, but do not really see a lot of difference. In the back seat, one side has had a baffle replaced, and there are extra baffles that go along with this auction. The center armrest in the backseat also has some leather that has cracked and separated.

All in all for an original car this is in excellent condition, but it is also important to realize that it is not in perfect condition. It will certainly make a collector proud, especially after giving it a little TLC…but all of the TLC is minor stuff. I am not sure what else I can say about the car, between what I have listed and what the pictures show…you can certainly contact me if you want additional questions answered.

This FL man accused of stealing drivers licenses has best tattoo ever

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Bentley and Porsche are two of the jewels in Volkswagen Group's luxury brand crown, but in Florida they also have a very tenuous connection with crime. With his multiple face and neck tattoos, including a Bentley logo right between his eyes, Derek Denesevich (pictured above) has been charged with the surprising crime of alleged identity theft. He recently surrendered to a Florida court, and could face seven years in prison, if convicted.
You might wonder where Porsche fits into this. According to the Sun Sentinel, Denesevich's accomplice was one Porscha Kyles, who worked for the Broward Clerk of Courts. She allegedly used her access to driver's license records to steal information and sell it to Denesevich. He is then accused of filing fraudulent income taxes to recoup the refund checks.
According to the Sentinel, Kyles has already pleaded guilty to conspiracy and identity theft and was sentenced to three years and one day in prison. The duo reportedly stole over 100 identities and made at least $120,000. Scroll down for a video about this pair of auto-related criminals.

Despite premium carmakers going downmarket, luxury auto sales stick at 10-11%

Thu, 16 Jan 2014

According to research conducted by global information company IHS Automotive, the leporine birthing of new models by luxury manufacturers over the past six years hasn't increased their market share in the US. Even as car sales reached 15.6 million units, IHS says what's happened instead is that luxury buyers are merely moving from one brand to another, moving from larger luxury vehicles into hot segments like compact luxury crossovers or leaving the market at the same rate as other buyers enter.
Whether broken out by makes or by segment, market share has rollercoastered inside a narrow band from 10.5 to 11.5 percent since "at least" 2008. Closer investigation reveals the shifting boundaries in the aspirational pond, with brands like Mercedes-Benz and Audi gaining territory as Lexus and Lincoln lost it, and Saab and Hummer were buried, dead, under it. One neat note is that Tesla has gone from a share of zip to .12 percent.
The subcompact and compact crossover segments show growth, with those little high-riders jumping from .3 percent to 1.16 percent of overall industry sales. Their rise, though, is concomitant with the decline of four other segments: compact and midsize cars and fullsize cars and SUVs. We think the next few years that will tell if the small-car expansion can overcome the large-car retraction, with a phalanx of smaller offerings like the CLA only recently hitting the market and others like the GLA, Macan and Q1 doing so in the near future.
