I purchased this car on September 2013. The previous owner had the car in New Jersey since 2001. He purchased it used with 83,952 miles. The prior owner had it from new but I don’t have that history. It was purchased new in Massachusetts.

Both owners were enthusiasts and took very good care of the car. All the regular maintenance has been performed.

Mechanics

No known issues. The car runs good. Smooth idle, no smoke, no odd noises or clunks, no leaks. Good acceleration and performance. The car was maintained by Powertech in Rockaway, New Jersey where the timing belt and water pump were replaced in October of 2012.

Body

The car has not suffered any severe damage. The previous owner said there were two minor accidents requiring body work. The repairs were done professionally and are not noticeable.

In October 2013 I had the rear quarter windows and rubber seals replaced along with the windshield. The windshield was showing some slight pitting and the rear quarter windows had some spots that would not come off. The rear section from the door back were repainted along with the front and rear bumpers which had some dings.

The work was done by Sports Car Collision in Ferndale Michigan, one of the best body shops in the country. The paint match was spot on and the work looks great.

The rest of the body and paint is in good shape for a 20 year old car. It’s not perfect. On a scale of 1-10 I’d give it a 7.

Hatch struts work fine. Front spoiler is not cracked or broken.

Interior

No tears or cracks in any of the leather. Leather is still soft and looks great.

No cracks in the dash. There’s a screw hole in the side of the console where the PO mounted an early cell phone but it’s not too noticeable. The luggage cover is starting to fade but the elastic is still good.

The carpet is in good shape with no stains but it is starting to look old.

There’s one of those tube subwoofers and an amp mounted on the rear deck. It sounds good but takes up space. It has Pioneer speakers which all work fine.

All the interior lights work as they should. The new Clarion NX503 has rear camera capability but there is no camera.

I like this 93 GTS and would keep it but my expanding business leaves no room to keep it or time to enjoy driving it. I have a 1991 928 S4 that I plan to keep and tinker with.

I’ve tried to be upfront on the condition of the car but I’m sure they’ll be questions.

I can be contacted via email bob@classic9leathershop.com

The car is available for inspection in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. A Pre Purchase Inspection is welcome but you’ll have to make your own arrangements.

Serious inquiries only.  I am not interested in any trades, investments, or business opportunities

Despite premium carmakers going downmarket, luxury auto sales stick at 10-11%

Thu, 16 Jan 2014

According to research conducted by global information company IHS Automotive, the leporine birthing of new models by luxury manufacturers over the past six years hasn't increased their market share in the US. Even as car sales reached 15.6 million units, IHS says what's happened instead is that luxury buyers are merely moving from one brand to another, moving from larger luxury vehicles into hot segments like compact luxury crossovers or leaving the market at the same rate as other buyers enter.
Whether broken out by makes or by segment, market share has rollercoastered inside a narrow band from 10.5 to 11.5 percent since "at least" 2008. Closer investigation reveals the shifting boundaries in the aspirational pond, with brands like Mercedes-Benz and Audi gaining territory as Lexus and Lincoln lost it, and Saab and Hummer were buried, dead, under it. One neat note is that Tesla has gone from a share of zip to .12 percent.
The subcompact and compact crossover segments show growth, with those little high-riders jumping from .3 percent to 1.16 percent of overall industry sales. Their rise, though, is concomitant with the decline of four other segments: compact and midsize cars and fullsize cars and SUVs. We think the next few years that will tell if the small-car expansion can overcome the large-car retraction, with a phalanx of smaller offerings like the CLA only recently hitting the market and others like the GLA, Macan and Q1 doing so in the near future.

Porsche releases new images of LMP1 racecar

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Porsche has released another batch of images of its LMP1 competitor preparing for its debut season in 2014. This isn't the first we've seen of the new car, as June saw four images of the new racer undergoing testing. Where those images looked merely like someone taking pics during the test, the 11 new images seen above have all the hallmarks of highly polished PR shots.
That aside, the camo-covered cars still provide another look at what the new LMP1 car will look like when it arrives next season. The taillights follow the example set by Audi, by vertically mounting ultra-thin LEDs on the tips of the rear wing, while the LED headlights sport the four-prong look that Porsche has been pushing of late. Besides those two items, its difficult to make out many details due to the amount of camo.
Porsche's LMP1 effort will be focused on the FIA World Endurance Championship, which will see the revered brand return to the top flights of the 24 Hours Of Le Mans with F1 ace Mark Webber behind the wheel. As we've mentioned before, the German brand has set up a dedicated microsite that will cover its newest racer's progress.

Porsche Cayman GT4 looks sexy, rapid in the nude

Mon, Jan 5 2015

Porsche doesn't officially have a name for its more hardcore version of the Cayman, yet. The speculation is that the coupe is called the GT4 as a little brother to the 911 GT3. However, the German sports car maker apparently is not interested in keeping the model's looks much of a secret because these latest shots show it without a hint of camouflage to speak of. The GT4 reportedly takes the GT3's ethos of more power, less weight and stickier-than-glue handling and brings it all to the Cayman. As these photos show, there's a much lower air dam up front with a cooling vent at the tip of the hood. Larger wheels are another obvious addition and are likely shod with some very sticky rubber. At the back, there's a double spoiler combining a wing and a ducktail. The power and gearbox for the GT4 remains a mystery, though. The rumor is that it uses a tuned version of the 3.4-liter flat-six in the Cayman S and GTS to make between 370 and 400 horsepower. A similar overhaul of the Boxster might be on the way, as well. A version of the convertible wearing some of the Cayman GT4's goodies was recently spotted testing. That one even had a manual transmission to make the prospects behind the wheel even more exciting.
