1988 Porsche 928 S4: 33k Orig. Miles, Gorgeous, Well Maintained Original Example on 2040-cars
Santa Barbara, California, United States
Offered for sale is a beautiful, 33k original mile,
mechanically strong, two owner 1987 Porsche 928 S4, finished in its original and ceaselessly tasteful Marine Blue Metallic over Grey leather with
offsetting Blue interior panels and carpets. Ordered new by its original owner from
Brian Harris Porsche in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, he would own the car for until
1994, when he sold it to a local business acquaintance. The second owner had
known of the car from new, and the car joined his humble collection. In the
nearly twenty years he owned the car, he rarely put many miles it, and
consequently the original 33k miles showing on the odometer is correct and
documentable via Carfax and the car’s stamped service booklet. When the 928 first hit the showroom floor, it was
absolutely the car to have. As Porsche’s first seriously expensive GT car, the
928 drew the ire of Porsche enthusiasts worldwide upon its announcement. But as
soon as they realized it wasn’t built to replace the beloved 911 (just to compliment
it in an enthusiast’s garage), opinions changed. A big V8 Autobahn bomber, the
928 was far more civilized than the 911, boasting big comfortable seats, power
everything, usually an automatic transmission and all the Star Wars/Reagan era
futuristic design elements that a successful 1980’s man could ask for. From
Cannes to Beverly Hills, if you were somebody you would have walked into a
dealership and bought a 928 S4. Whether making a vacation trip from Milan to
Monaco or Los Angeles to San Francisco on business, the 928 was (and arguably
still could be), the car of choice, providing a wonderful drive quality without
frustrating your wife. It’s a true GT cruiser; extremely comfortable with a V8
that has great torque, making smooth, enjoyable driving effortless.
Furthermore, in following with Porsche’s legendary legacy, the handling is
great and the looks are timeless. The Marine Blue Metallic finish is completely original
and in excellent condition, deep, lustrous and marred only by the most
negligible of imperfections, none of which are significant enough to register
in the pictures. The car’s body is entirely straight, free of dings or evidence
of body work, and all of the panel fits and gaps are consistent and factory
correct. The glass and rubber is excellent original shape, as are the original
alloy wheels. The car’s interior is equally as clean, the navy leather seats and
carpets showing only negligible wear consistent with a well looked after, low
mileage car. The power sunroof, power seats, power windows, power rear hatch
locking device and all of the other electronics work exactly as they should,
and the car retains its original, functional Blaupunkt radio. For that matter,
everything on the car is stock – it hasn’t been modified in any way. The car is also excellent mechanically, feeling like a
tight, well maintained, 33k mile example should. Despite its low miles, the car
was always regularly driven, always garaged and serviced primarily at the
Porsche dealership. It starts effortlessly, producing a low rumble to announce
its 316hp 5.0L V8. It’s smooth through all of the gears, pulling with
incredible force when asked. With its quiet cabin and even drive quality, it’s
very easy to look down at your gauges on the freeway and realize you’re doing
95mph when you assumed you were only a hair over 70. Despite the fact it’s a
front engine V8, it’s still a Porsche and it performs with poise in the canyons
as well as on the freeway. This is an excellent opportunity at one of the finest, lowest mileage 928s on the market. With vintage Porsches appreciating faster than any other marque (save for Ferrari), the outlandish numbers that 356s and 911s have been realizing have made the 928 a legitimate and unique collector’s car. Tasteful colors, excellent condition, low miles, 5.0L engine, clean history – if you’ve been looking for one, it would be hard to find a better example. We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the
years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d
personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room
for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Porsche (if the price is
right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate
descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and
we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional
inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our
ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper
due diligence before bidding. For
U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the
auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end.
Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end.
Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with
recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the
right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end.
Thanks for your interest. |

Porsche suspends 911 GT3 deliveries amidst fears of spontaneous combustion
Mon, 17 Feb 2014Seeing pictures of Italian supercars burst into flames by the side of the road, as our compatriots at Axis of Oversteer point out, has become something of a usual sight. But a Porsche? Surely those meticulous German engineers have got that taken care of, right?
Not necessarily. Reports coming in from Europe indicate that no fewer than five 911 GT3 coupes have "spontaneously combusted" in the past few weeks, prompting Porsche to launch an investigation. In the meantime, they've reportedly ceased deliveries of the new GT3 while they try to determine what the problem is and work to rectify it.
We wouldn't be surprised to see a recall issued once the problem is resolved, but for now, we'd encourage existing owners to be extra vigilant behind the wheel - or better yet, leave their cars in the garage for the time being. You wouldn't want to drive a 475-horsepower rear-drive sports car through a Polar Vortex, anyway, right?
Porsche celebrates 5M Facebook fans with crowdsourced one-off 911
Mon, 05 Aug 2013Porsche's Facebook fan base appears to be accelerating as quickly as the cars it builds. The German automaker has just unveiled a special 911 Carrera 4S designed with crowdsourced input as a way to thank its five million Facebook fans.
The 911 features special Aquablaumetallic paint from Porsche Exclusive, contrasting 20-inch white Carrera S wheels and pinstriping, along with an aero package including a fixed rear wing. Inside, there are unique backlit sill plates and the obligatory dashboard engraving that says "Personally Built by 5 Million Porsche Fans."
As a way to turn at least one virtual thumbs up into its more meaningful physical-world equivalent, Porsche is holding a contest to win the chance to drive the car at Britain's Silverstone racetrack - and bring a friend - and nine lucky runners-up will win 1:43-scale models of the 911. If you want to enter the contest, click here.
2021 L.A. Auto Show roundup | All the reveals, reviews, pictures
Thu, Nov 18 2021The L.A. Auto Show took place this week for the first time since the onset of the pandemic. It was a show packed with news and reveals, which hasn't really been the case with other shows we've seen this year, and Autoblog was on the floor covering every minute of it. Well, Riswick and Stocksdale were, anyway. The rest of us were sitting at home in our sweatpants, but hey, we'll take credit anyway. Let's get to it. Hyundai Seven Concept This is the Hyundai Seven Concept, and it’s meant to act as a preview for an incoming electric SUV for the Ioniq brand. It leans more toward the concept side of the spectrum than a production car, but expect the final SUV to take design cues from the Seven Concept. Kia Concept EV9 The Hyundai Seven counterpart isn't the only big, bold electric SUV at L.A. this year. Kia has its own take, and it's a modernized version of the traditional boxy utility vehicle called the Concept EV9. It also previews one of the next production electric cars for the brand, which should look right at home next to things like the Telluride. 2023 Kia Sportage HEV As promised, the 2023 Kia Sportage HEV has been revealed. The hybrid powertrain makes the compact SUV the most powerful version available, and it goes on sale next year. The engine is a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder paired with a 44-kW electric motor. Total output is 226 horsepower. The company didn't give a torque number, but it should basically be the same as the Sorento HEV that has the same basic powertrain: 258 pound-feet. Those numbers are a healthy step up from the 187 horsepower of the base 2.5-liter engine. 2022 Range Rover If you noticed how extra smooth and suave the new Range Rover looked during its recent reveal, Autoblog's James Riswick got a design tour that revealed some of the technological secrets to its success. "Less is more" is harder to achieve than it looks. Fisker Ocean Fisker has brought the new Ocean EV to the L.A. Auto Show, with a public preview at Manhattan Beach and a presence at the show itself. You can watch the public show reveal above, and see more shots from the show floor below. Fisker says the Ocean will start at $37,499 before incentives. That entry model would be the Sport trim with a single, 275-horsepower motor driving the front wheels and 250 miles of estimated range. It also has a 0-60 time of 6.9 seconds. 2023 Toyota bZ4X This is the 2023 Toyota bZ4X, due to hit U.S.
