1986 Porsche 928 S Coupe 2-door 5.0l on 2040-cars
Gray, Maine, United States
I have a 1986(.5) 928s. It is after vin#1000 so it has the much bigger better S4 brakes. Exterior of the car is in excellent shape, No rust anywhere to be found. Interior is in good shape, although it is worn in. There is a small wear spot on the drivers side rear seat back form getting in and out of the car. Car is currently registered, inspected, insured, and driven a couple days a week, so the mileage may go up a little, and test drives are possible if your in the area.
car comes with 2 sets of wheels and tires. 1 set of stock d-window 16" wheels, and 1 set of 18" turbo twists from a 996. I'll take less money for the car if you don't want the 18s (i can still put them to good use), contact me for details if this interests you. 288hp from a 5.0L liquid cooled 32 valve v8, automatic transmission, starts, runs drives, and stops very well. there are a few flaws in the car, nothing out of the norm for a 27 year old porsche. There a worn spot on the lower drivers side of the drivers side seat back from entering the car, the AC doesn't work (service records indicate that the lower condenser hose is cracked, and it wasn't repaired since the car is used in new england and isn't necessary most days), the rear wiper works intermitently, and the power seat on the passenger side is unresponsive. None of these have hampered my enjoyment of the car.
I will take cash, check (wait for it to clear), money order, or paypal is fine so long as you pay 3% above to cover the costs of the service Car is currently in Gray Maine. Car can be picked up. I also have a car trailer, i can deliver and or meet within a 3 hour radius of 04039 for $.75/mi. I frequently drive from southern maine to eastern ma so if your in my area contact me and I can get it to you cheaper. I can also assist a truck driver (per your arrangement) load the car if it was going further. If you have any questions, need pictures of anything specific, or anything else, dont hesitate to ask. 207-229-9550 |

Porsche confirms four-cylinder Boxster, Cayman replacement for US
Wed, May 20 2015Those who've been anxiously awaiting the return of the four-cylinder Porsche will be glad to know that the wait is almost over. What's more, the quad-pot Porsches won't be kept away from US showrooms but will form an integral part of the company's North American strategy. Confirmation comes courtesy of Automotive News, which spoke to the company's chief executive Matthias Muller about its return to four-cylinder power. "First of all, we will have it in the Boxster and Cayman successor," Muller told AN. "And then we will see how it works and how successful it is and how the customers will react on that, and then we will take the next decisions." The model to which Muller refers is expected to be the 718 – a new line taking the place of the Boxster and Cayman, ostensibly allowing Zuffenhausen to start from scratch rather than "downsizing" the engine on existing models. The new range is anticipated to launch sometime in the middle of next year. Porsche is currently offering a 2.0-liter inline-four with 234 horsepower in the Macan (which we get with V6s) for certain markets overseas, but the 718 is expected to get a new flat-four 2.0- and 2.5-liter displacements with output edging up to 395 horsepower. The last time Porsche offered a four-pot in the US was with the front-engined 968 that wrapped up production two decades ago, but it hasn't offered a boxer four since 1976.
The 2017 Porsche 911 RSR goes mid-engine, purists be damned
Wed, Nov 16 2016Porsche unveiled its World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech Championship competitor with the 2017 911 RSR. And this 911 is different from the rest, as the 4.0-liter flat-six engine powering this beast is in front of the rear axle, not behind it. That's right, this 24 Hours of Le Mans competitor ditches the iconic rear-engine layout. Porsche isn't talking specifics on how exactly things are arranged back there. The engine is new, now based on the 991 911's block instead of the previous Mezger motor that's been used for years. The transmission design is new as well – it would have to be to accommodate the new location relative to the engine. The racecar has been engineered to meet the LM-GTE class, where it will go up against other mid-engine cars like the Ford GT and Ferrari 488 GTE. Moving the engine to the middle has given Porsche the ability to fit the 911 RSR with massive bits of aero, like the humongous rear diffuser that looks like it would be more at home on a machine of war. The only thing that can compete with the diffuser for size is the top-mounted rear wing, which shares a similar design to the one found on the 919 Hybrid. Going back to the engine, the direct-injected boxer motor, depending on the size of the restrictor, generates as much as 510 horsepower and sends all of its fury to the rear wheels. The engine is paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox, which drivers can employ through paddles on the steering wheel. The new engine doesn't have a lot of weight to push around as the 911 RSR, as required by regulations, weighs 2,740 pounds. Speaking of weight, the engine layout isn't the only change for the 911 RSR. For 2017, the car ditches its steel body for one that's made out of carbon fiber. The body attaches to the chassis via quick-release fasteners, making the vehicle easier to service as exterior elements can be removed with minimal effort. The racecar also gets a radar-based collision system – aptly named the "Collision Avoid System" – which is meant to limit the 911 RSR's encounters with faster LMP prototypes. Only time will tell if the new layout and aerodynamic components help the 911 RSR beat its competition. But there will be plenty of opportunities to see the racecar in action as Porsche plans to run the 911 RSR in 19 races during the 2017 season, the first of which will take place at the IMSA opener on January 28th at Daytona, where the racecar will make its track day debut.
