1987 Porsche 924s "the Speed Of A 944 But The Size Of 924--super Car! "s" on 2040-cars

This is an
auction of 5 days and really it has a low reserve. I want to move on to another
Porsche collectible. The Porsche 924 S is a result of adding 1 + 2 equaling a S model. A 924S bhp was increased to 150 bhp in 1986 , 2.5L, and a welcomed improvement in suspension. For the 1986 to
1988 model years the car acquired the power plant from the 944 model and became
the Porsche 924S. About 75 % of
total produced in 1987, (8,940)was sent to the USA market. The car has all
the options for the 1987 model year and radio was upgraded to a premium aftermarket
radio. I am the second
owner and this probably is the reason for the high rating of 70 in the Auto
Check Vehicle History report. The car’s
history is very open, clean and clear. The Porsche was bought in Jacksonville, FL,
serviced by a world class Porsche dealer in Jacksonville. Service history is
available and included with all manuals. There was no major service done other then required to the
car in 28 years, but every required maintenance was done on time. No accidents, yes the tires are new and spare has the same wheel pattern. The car was
bought from the original owner and then bought for its future collectability. The car is
exciting to drive. A car with this low curb weight and 150 bhp is very very
surprising. Incredible performance… All maintenance
is up to date. Since the car does not get driven a lot, the gas tank has been
emptied once every four years and fuel filter changed every 3 oil changes. If you would like more photos or would like to look at the car, it will be available Friday and Saturday for review. Any comments or questions, please email |

Porsche updates 919 Hybrid LMP1 for 2015 assault [w/video]
Fri, Mar 27 2015Last season, Porsche returned to the top level of endurance racing with the 919 Hybrid, picking up a mantle that has seen the German marque win the 24 Hours of Le Mans a record sixteen times – more than any other manufacturer ever to compete at the legendary French race. Of course, Porsche didn't beat its sister company Audi right out of the box, but managed to win the last race in the FIA World Endurance Championship in Brazil before the season was done. This year it undoubtedly hopes to do even better, and this is the machine with which it will endeavor to take the top honors. Newly revised and optimized for the 2015 season, the new 919 Hybrid was just revealed on the eve of the first test session of the season at the Paul Ricard test track in the South of France. It may look largely the same as the model it succeeds, but benefits from numerous advancements made to help Porsche catch up with Audi and Toyota. For starters, Zuffenhausen has opted to step up to the eight-megajoule category, favoring the electric side of its hybrid powertrain over the internal combustion engine. So the compact 2.0-liter turbocharged V4 now drives in excess of 500 horsepower to the rear wheels, and the electric motor – powered by two energy recovery systems and a liquid-cooled lithium-ion battery – kicks in upwards of 400 hp to the front wheels. The rest of the package has been comprehensively updated as well, giving it a lower weight, improved rigidity, revised suspension and reshaped aerodynamic elements. Porsche will field two cars at most of the races this season, but will increase its team to three cars for certain races – one in black, one in white and one in red. Following the "prologue" test session at Paul Ricard this weekend, the season kicks off with the 6 Hours of Silverstone on April 12, when the new Porsche 919 Hybrid will take on the similarly revised Audi R18 E-Tron Quattro and Toyota TS040 Hybrid for the first time in earnest. Meet the man that discovered and restored the oldest existing Porsche
Tue, 11 Mar 2014Luciano Rupolo is an absolutely fascinating gentleman. He was born in France but spent nearly his entire life in Italy as an auto mechanic running his own shop. His grandfather and father instilled a love of sports cars in him that he carried on by historic racing in Italy for decades. He saw his life-long automotive passion repaid when he found and restored the car that might have been the first Porsche registered for the road.
You can spot in his garage a split-window Corvette, Ferrari 250 GTE and other exotics, but Rupolo's most interesting automotive story concerns his Iso Grifo Competizione (pictured above). The sports coupe was found in the Canary Islands as little more than a shell, but Rupolo got help from a prestigious source for its restoration. The result is a motoring masterpiece.
Rupolo is a fantastic storyteller with a captivating, tale to tell. Settle in, scroll down and watch the bittersweet documentary about his life with one of the first Porsches.
Le Mans-winning Porsche 935 K3 'seized' by DEA agents
Thu, 16 Jan 2014Porsche has won Le Mans more than any other marque, but only one of those overall race winners was actually based on a 911. That was the 1979 Porsche 935 K3, chassis number 009 00015 that was entered by brothers Don and Bill Whittington. It went on to win at the Nürburgring and Watkins Glen, and scored podium finishes at Sebring and Brands Hatch as well. In short, it's a historically significant and hugely valuable piece of motorsport history. And it was just seized by the DEA. Sorta.
After the Whittington brothers ran afoul of a handful of lawsuits and were implicated in smuggling narcotics, the car changed hands a few times before ending up in the noted collection of one Bruce Meyers. He had it at Laguna Seca earlier this month when a black Suburban, Dodge Charger and transporter truck pulled up with government plates, asked to speak with Meyer, presented him with a court order, loaded the car onto the truck and drove off.
Though familiar with the legal disputes surrounding the ownership of the car and the misdeeds of its famous original owners, Meyer was left understandably distraught over the events that had just unfolded in front of him to separate him from his pride and joy. (Or one of them, anyway; Bruce has got an eminently desirable collection of classic cars.) But here's the kicker: those DEA agents weren't actual DEA agents. Fortunately they weren't thieves, either. The actual story could have been the plot right out of Ocean's 14 if they ever made one and it focused on classic cars. (Is anyone in Hollywood listening?)
