this is your chance to get a nice, solid 914 for cheap if you are willing to do a little work, this car is being re-listed because of a buyer who bid it up higher than it was worth and has now decided not to pay for it. The car has a 2.0 liter engine with 36 mm exhaust and 42 mm intake valves, it last ran about a year ago and has about 200 miles on it. The motor also has a hydraulic cam and lifters, and 40 mm Brosol carbs with electric chokes, the engine had a 009 distributor but now has a stock one which needs to be timed and wired. The fuel pump is new and needs to be wired. The starter is new.

The transmission is a late model side shift type, it shifts nicely sitting there but I have never had it in a running car so can't say for sure it is good, I do have an extra transmission I will include if need be. The front brakes have been rebuilt and the master cylinder is a new 911 type, the rear brakes need to be reassembled and installed. The parking brake handle is from a late model car. The tires are all good but are not matched or balanced. The rear shocks are gas KYBs, all the wheel bearings and other suspension/steering  parts are good and the tie rod ends are new. The electrics work for the most part though the turn signal and ignition switches need attention and the electric part of the ignition switch needs to be replaced. The radio is junk and there are no speakers. The right tail light has some sun cracks.

The carpet is new, the weatherstrips and seals are all good except for the front trunk bulkhead seal and the front targa seal are not perfect. The seats and rear bolster have some flaws but are usable. The paint has some runs on both sides, the runs on the driver's side are not too bad and should color sand and buff out, the ones on the passenger side front and rear fenders may need to be re-shot. The body is solid with no rust in the trunks, doors, floorpans, sail panels, rockers or engine compartment. This car has not been on the road in over a decade, and I have owned it for the last seven years. the passenger seat has been upgraded to the movable late model type.

The motor has a different exhaust system on it than is shown in the out-of-car photo, the stock exchangers are in excellent condition and the muffler and collector is new. the doors are the late model type with better regulators and safety beams. I have a car trailer I can loan to move the car. Please do not bid on this car if you don't want to buy it or if you don't have the money to pay for it, thanks for looking!

Leno buys classic Porsche 356 Carrera 2, seeks out and finds perfect expert for help

Mon, 19 Aug 2013

The world of collector cars is fairly tight-knit when you get down to individual models. Need proof? Just take a look at this latest video from Jay Leno's Garage. The subject is a gorgeous 1963 Porsche 356 Carrera 2. Jay, being known as quite a collector, got a call from someone looking to sell. While doing his due diligence and looking for a 356 expert to go over the car with him, he came across John Willhoit.
Where the story gets weird is when Leno is asked the license plate number - it turns out that Willhoit, owner of Willhoit Restorations, had restored the exact same car more than 30 years prior. He then sold it to the same person that was looking to give it to Leno. What follows is a truly interesting video on the little quirks of the 356, along with Willhoit's personal history on a car he hadn't seen since 1976.
This is a bit more mechanically detailed than Leno's normal videos, but it's on a very interesting subject. Take a look below for the entire film.

Porsche acquires Kyalami race track at auction

Mon, 28 Jul 2014

With more victories under its belt than any other manufacturer, you could say, in a figurative sense at least, that Porsche owns countless numbers of race tracks around the world. But here we're not talking about figuratively owning a track - we're talking about literally buying one. And Porsche has just bought Kyalami.
Kylamai, for those unfamiliar, is a grand prix circuit near Johannesburg in South Africa. Between 1967 and 1985, and again in '92 and '93, it was home to the South African Grand Prix, and has since hosted a variety of local and lower-level international races, but apparently fell on hard times. As a result, the track's owners - listed as Universal Property Professionals - put it up for auction. Bidders had to deposit four million Rand (about $380k) to participate, but after just 50 seconds, the auction was over.
The winning bid was placed - via telephone from the local press launch for the Macan - by Porsche South Africa CEO Toby Venter, who bid a reported 205 million rand (about $19.5 million) to take over the complex. The German automaker's South African division reportedly intends to keep the track open for racing, but could also be expected to use the facility for testing, customer track days and such moving forward.

Why you must buy an air-cooled Porsche 911 now

Fri, 14 Feb 2014

"Because" might be a good response to our headline, but as a vintage (purists might call 'proper') Porsche 911 is hardly cheap, we suspect you'll need a better explanation than that. Enter Drive editor Mike Spinelli.
Spinelli sits down with Zac Moseley and Mick Prichinello from Classic Car Club Manhattan to first explain why the market for old, air-cooled 911s has gotten so hot over the past few years, and to discuss if it's a bubble that's about to burst. Following that, this video is really is just three guys sitting around talking about old Porsches for 35 minutes. Which, you know, we're pretty onboard with.
