Up for auction is my 1973 Porsche 914 with VIN 4732910287, completely numbers matching car ,making this car # 287 to roll off the Porsche production line in 1973. Originally purchased in Long Beach, California. I am third owner , and I purchased this car from a long time PCA owner who brought the car to Canada in the 90s. During my ownership, I have come to know this 914 quite well, both its positives and negatives.General overall condition very good, with a high degree of originality. For a comprehensive understanding of this car's current condition, documenting all positives and negatives, please review all 150 photos, please email me for the link [zipedit] 1973 Porsche 914 photos and descriptions I am strongly suggesting that you review all photos and descriptions in before bidding. As an overview, I am including a number of photographs and descriptions in this auction as well. The best thing about this 914 is that, with its California origins, it is virtually rust free. There is no rust in the hellhole, battery tray or rockers. Older refinish in the original signal orange code # L20E. Paint is still shiny with no chips or scratches, just a bit old but shows well. There has never been any body damage or accidents. Another positive is its high level of originality. Where I've replaced parts, I've tried to use OEM Porsche parts as extensively as possible from Stoddard or the Porsche dealer. The odometer reading of 69,593 is correct and represents original miles. This Porsche starts easily and runs well. It has the original numbers matching 1.7 and factory fuel injection that performs flawlessly. All hoses have been replaced with original braded cloth style and a recent tune-up ensures the car starts and runs perfectly, no excuses, no smoke, no noises. Handling is exceptional, steers straight and stops in a straight line. Brakes and calipers have been serviced and replaced as needed. Chrome bumpers are dent and scratch free. Included with the car is the original tool kit, spare tire and jack as well as the original owners manual. All electric components work including the rear heater motor. Fuchs rims are very nice with no curbing or scrapes. The previous owner sprayed a cheap undercoating on the bottom floor pan years ago, I removed some of it with solvent to expose the original signal orange put there by the factory. Although this is a DIY job it probably saved the underside from corrosion and can be removed with minor but messy effort. The interior is almost perfect, no dash cracks, seats and panels have no rips, tears or stains. No marks in any of the glass. The original radio works. Seats slide smoothly, has the rear window defog option. Windows crank up and down smoothly. Targa top fits tight and is water proof, seals are in good condition. (For detailed pictures of any aspects of the car, please view the extensive photo album) I am a collector of early 911s and 356 Porsche. This car doesn’t fit with my collection but when it came up for sale it was too nice of an original example to pass up. I only collect exceptional factory original examples, fortunately for the next owner I have put this 914 up for sale to make way for a more vintage Porsche. Email me for a link to over 150 high resolution photos showing every aspect of the car. I want the future owner to know exactly what they are getting with no surprises. I have shipped overseas, ( Germany, Great Britain, Denmark and Holland) as well as anywhere in North America. The 2017 Porsche 911 RSR goes mid-engine, purists be damned
Wed, Nov 16 2016Porsche unveiled its World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech Championship competitor with the 2017 911 RSR. And this 911 is different from the rest, as the 4.0-liter flat-six engine powering this beast is in front of the rear axle, not behind it. That's right, this 24 Hours of Le Mans competitor ditches the iconic rear-engine layout. Porsche isn't talking specifics on how exactly things are arranged back there. The engine is new, now based on the 991 911's block instead of the previous Mezger motor that's been used for years. The transmission design is new as well – it would have to be to accommodate the new location relative to the engine. The racecar has been engineered to meet the LM-GTE class, where it will go up against other mid-engine cars like the Ford GT and Ferrari 488 GTE. Moving the engine to the middle has given Porsche the ability to fit the 911 RSR with massive bits of aero, like the humongous rear diffuser that looks like it would be more at home on a machine of war. The only thing that can compete with the diffuser for size is the top-mounted rear wing, which shares a similar design to the one found on the 919 Hybrid. Going back to the engine, the direct-injected boxer motor, depending on the size of the restrictor, generates as much as 510 horsepower and sends all of its fury to the rear wheels. The engine is paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox, which drivers can employ through paddles on the steering wheel. The new engine doesn't have a lot of weight to push around as the 911 RSR, as required by regulations, weighs 2,740 pounds. Speaking of weight, the engine layout isn't the only change for the 911 RSR. For 2017, the car ditches its steel body for one that's made out of carbon fiber. The body attaches to the chassis via quick-release fasteners, making the vehicle easier to service as exterior elements can be removed with minimal effort. The racecar also gets a radar-based collision system – aptly named the "Collision Avoid System" – which is meant to limit the 911 RSR's encounters with faster LMP prototypes. Only time will tell if the new layout and aerodynamic components help the 911 RSR beat its competition. But there will be plenty of opportunities to see the racecar in action as Porsche plans to run the 911 RSR in 19 races during the 2017 season, the first of which will take place at the IMSA opener on January 28th at Daytona, where the racecar will make its track day debut.
Meet the main man behind the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3
Fri, 30 Aug 2013We have yet to catch our breath from our first drive of the 2014 Porsche 911 GT3, but if you're still not sold on the fact that this track-ready 911 is only offered with a PDK transmission, then you should take it up with Andreas Preuninger. Preuninger is the guy who led the team responsible for the latest GT3. Porsche has released a video giving a little backstory of what went into the development of the car, which had as its goal the creation of a pure, rewarding 911 driving experience.
The video captures the sights and sounds of the GT3 perfectly. Perhaps the best part is listening to Preuninger describe one of the defining moments that resulted in replacing the GT3's manual gearbox with the PDK. We don't want to ruin the video for you, so scroll down to check it out for yourself.
Porsche to introduce new Boxster Spyder, Macan GTS this year
Mon, Mar 16 2015Dig the new Porsche Cayman GT4 but really wish it came in open-top form? Love the Boxster GTS but wish it had more punch? Well we've got good news for you, friend, as that seems to be precisely what Porsche has in store. Among the new models the Volkswagen Group has lined up for this year will be a new Porsche Boxster Spyder. Although no details were announced along with the name, there are a few elements we can look forward to. The new Boxster Spyder is tipped to be essentially an open-top version of the Cayman GT4, but just how many of the latter's components will make the jump from coupe to convertible remain to be seen. The GT4 packs the 3.8-liter flat six from the 911 Carrera S with 385 horsepower, channeled to the rear wheels through an old-school six-speed manual transmission. It also has carbon-ceramic brakes, revised aero, and a stiffened suspension. The Spyder version of the previous Boxster arrived in 2009 with a modest 14-horsepower boost, a retuned suspension and a good 176 pounds trimmed off its curb weight thanks to the elimination of the motorized soft top, air-con and other components. That's not all Porsche has in store for 2015, though. The German automaker has also confirmed a Macan GTS is in the works that promises to explore the little crossover's performance potential. Projecting just what Porsche will do to Macan to give it the GTS treatment, though, is a little tricky. Sure, the German automaker already offers GTS of the rest of its lineup, but just where that model slots in to each line varies. On the Boxster and Cayman, it slots in between the S and GT4/Spyder. For the 911, it serves as a mid-point between the Carrera S and the GT3. And with the Panamera and Cayenne, the GTS bridges the gap between the S and Turbo models. Considering both the Macan S and Macan Turbo pack twin-turbo V6s, the Macan GTS could serve as a mid-point between the S and Turbo with around 350-360 hp, or (more likely) top the range with upwards of 420 hp. One way or another, though, we can expect upgrades to the suspension, brakes, rolling stock and trim to complete the package. Most of the rest of the announcements made in VW's annual report we either already knew about or are of little interest, but the document also confirms new Lamborghinis on the way, including two new versions of the Aventador (likely to be the new SV coupe we just saw and an SV roadster) and three more of the Huracan as well, including two Spyder versions of the latter.
