1973 Porsche 914-4 2.0l on 2040-cars
Spring Valley, California, United States
Up for auction is a 1973 Porsche 914-4 2.0. The car overall is in very good condition. It's a great daily driver, reliable and fun to drive. In an effort to describe the car as best as possible I will list all of the strengths and weakness in regards to its condition. I have also performed numerous upgrades and repairs to the car over the time I've owned it. The car will be sold as-is. Potential bidders are welcome to call me with any questions. Please email me first through ebay and I'll send my phone number. This is a local auction and I cannot personally offer shipping options, however I will help accommodate the best I can your shipping arrangements if possible. Description of the car: I would describe the body and paint as in fair condition. There are several small chips and dings and it's not the original paint job. The original paint was white and it was repainted at some point with a different shade of white. There is a dent on the passenger side door (which is really hard to photograph) and a scrape/dent on the bottom of the driver's side door (which can be seen in the photos). The bumpers are original and in very good condition. The wheels are Pedrini's that have been polished. The tires are brand new Pirelli's with a new full size Yokohama spare as well. The rear signal lenses are in very good shape, the side markers are in good condition, the front turn signal lenses are in fair condition. This is a California car and has very little rust. There are however small areas of surface rust throughout. The engine bay has surface rust. The "hell hole" below the battery is in good condition, with surface rust and no structural rust issues. There is a portion of the rear trunk floor that had rust issues in the past and was repaired. The seat pans and floors are in excellent condition. All of the glass is in excellent condition. The under body is in excellent condition. The targa top is in excellent condition. There is an issue with the rear trunk lid that needs repair. The weld on the right side hinge has broken off and needs to be tack welded back on. The car is drive-able and the lid is not in danger of coming off, however cosmetically you can see that the trunk lid on the right hand side is raised. I tried to photograph the trunk and broken hinge as best as possible. The interior is in good/fair condition. The seats are in good/fair condition with repairs needed to the headrests. It has the appearance package with center console. I have replaced the original clock and oil temp gauge with a cylinder head temp and oil pressure gauge. I have the original gauges. The original stereo has been replaced with an Alpine stereo/CD player. There are 4 speakers, however only the speakers behind the original speaker grilles are connected. The carpeting is in fair condition. The dash is in excellent condition with no cracks. The 'A' pillars have a crack in the vinyl mid-way up. Mechanically the car is in excellent condition. The engine runs great with no issues. The engine is not original to the car. At some point a rebuilt 2.0 liter engine was transplanted (previous owner). It has a "GC" code, which comes from a later model '75 or '76 2.0L. I do not know how many miles are on the rebuilt engine. The odometer reads 38,070, which is actually 138,070. I had a compression test performed by a professional shop around 130,000 miles and it read 105, 115, 115, 120. There are small oil leaks from the pushrod tubs seals and the transmission. The car will have several small drops of oil that fall after each drive. The car is exempt from the California smog regulations. I recently installed (2) freshly rebuilt Dellorto DRLA 40 carburetors from Italy. The points and condenser have been replaced with an electronic ignition. I've replaced the old plastic fuel lines in the center tunnel with a new stainless steel line. This was a huge pain, however the car is much safer without the old lines. There is a new rotary fuel pump installed in the front trunk. I've also replaced all of the fuel hoses with high quality materials. I've replaced all of the shift linkage bushings and the car shifts very well....for a 914. It does have the side shifter. I have replaced all of the bushings, ball joints and tie rod ends on the front suspension. The suspension is very fluid and responsive. There are also new Bilstein sport shocks on all (4) wheels and new 100lb springs in the rear. It has the original front an rear sway bars. From what I've been told the rear sway bar was a rare option. My next project was to replace the rear swing arm bushings and rear bearings, however haven't made it that far. I do have (2) new rear wheel bearings that will go with the car. There are a couple of issues with the the steering. On the freeway the car will wander in rain grooves and there is an intermittent vibration in the steering wheel. I'm pretty sure the wandering is a result of the tread pattern on the tires. I haven't been able to figure out the steering vibration, other than it being a result of the road conditions on the freeway. It doesn't happen off the freeway or on back roads when I drive in the country. Once again all of the front suspension components have been replaced, so I'm not sure what the issue might be. All of the lights and signals work. Both headlights pop up. I recently replaced all of the bulbs on the dash gauges. The alternator has been recently rebuilt and a new voltage regulator has been installed. The windshield wipers have 3 settings, however only work on two of them, but they do work. The windshield washer system does not work and is not connected. The horn does not work. The horn itself does work, however the horn switch on the steering wheel does not. The steering wheel is aftermarket and there seems to be a grounding issue with the way the switch is attached to the wheel. The heater control boxes work and have new hoses. I have the original aux blower motor, however it is not connected and I don't know if it works. In conclusion I've tried my best to describe the car in great detail. The car is not perfect and there many small issues throughout. All of the major issues have been described above. That being said I feel like the car is a very reliable and fun daily driver in excellent mechanical condition. The primary reason I'm parting with the car is because I live in a condo with only a carport for storage. Without a garage it's very difficult for me to perform routine maintenance or make repairs to the car. Here's a list of features and recent upgrades: Newly Rebuilt Dellorto DRLA 40 Carbs New CB performance crossbar linkage New Bilsteins on all (4) wheels New 100lb springs New Pirelli Tires New SS Fuel line Recently added Turbo tie rod kit Recently replaced A-arm bushings Cylinder head temp guage Oil pressure gauge Recently replaced Ball joints New shift rod bushings Elephant racing low-friction control arm mount kit BMW front brake calipers Recently replaced Dot approved SS brake lines Recently rebuilt alternator Recently replaced voltage regulator Recently replaced Blaster coil Electronic Ignition Recently replaced throttle and clutch cables New speed bleeders on all (4) calipers New rotary fuel pump New front sway bar bushings New Front wheel bearings New poly upper strut mounts New ignition switch New gas pedal New Clewett Engineering high performance plug wires Front targa seal replaced CoverKing Car cover |

Thu, 11 Jul 2013Each year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, a single marque is celebrated with a large and ornate "Central Feature" sculpture, with recent automakers including Audi in 2009, Alfa Romeo in 2010, Jaguar in 2011 and Lotus last year. This year, Porsche gets the honor, and it is using the opportunity to commemorate 50 years of the 911.

Thu, 21 Feb 2013Robb Report has picked the seventh-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S as its 2013 Car of the Year, saying the two-door captivated its judges with "agility, driving dynamics and balance." The German coupe bested 12 others who were also in the running - the impressive list of nominees included the BMW M5, Audi S8, Ferrari FF, Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG and the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse.
Judging involved more than just throwing darts at pictures on the wall, as the publication enlisted a panel of automotive experts to test drive each vehicle for close evaluation. The panelists included 100 members of the Robb Report Club (comprised of top corporate executives and influential readers), Editor-in-Chief Brett Anderson and automotive consultant Robert Ross. Full results of the competition will be revealed in the luxury magazine's March issue, hitting newsstands in about a week.
