I am selling my 1970 Porsche 914 with many extra parts. It has very little rust, just a few spots on the floor pans which has been covered with POR-15 and reinforcing mesh. The rolling chassis came from California. When I got it I stripped down the interior, engine compartment, and RR trunk to bare metal and painted with POR-15 (Did not do the front trunk yet). The hell hole and longs have no rust. The battery tray was rusted, so I removed it and relocated the battery to the RR trunk. It has a 1.7 liter motor (not original) with weber carbs and has been upgraded to a later side shift transmission. The transmission was rebuilt a couple years ago and works well (just needs a very slight shifter adjustment). The distributor has been upgraded to a unilite electronic unit with an MSD 6A box. The engine runs well most of the time, but has an intermittent rough running issue. I believe it is something in the fuel system causing it to run lean, likely the fuel pump. I have a brand new, unopened carb fuel pump and filter that will come with it. The interior is OK, but does need some work. The passenger side window needs installed (everything comes with it) and the driver side needs adjusted. The entire car could use a new paint job or fix the one it has. There are a lot of scratches and the clear coat that the previous owner sprayed on is full of runs. The bumpers are aftermarket fiber glass ones molded to look like OEM. The targa top needs painted. The key only works in the ignition and passenger door, the rest need rekeyed. The trunk has an electric opener instead of a key. Almost new Kumho Ecsta AST tires (less than 500 miles on them). There are a lot of little things that need done on the car, but it is a very good starting point and comes with a ton of extra parts.
There are far too many extra parts to list them all (I had 2 parts cars), but I will list the bigger ones: 2.0 liter engine (minus heads) that needs rebuilt; Tail shift transmission case with some internals; Original 1.7 liter fuel injection system; Brand new unopened carb fuel pump w/ filter; Full extra set of suspension; 2.0 liter muffler; Set of 5-lug adaptors; Many unopened new parts; 2 Italian made Weber 40 IDF carbs that need rebuilt; The 3 shelving units in the pictures are full of the extra parts, plus there are many not shown or listed. Overall the car is in pretty good condition, just needs someone who wants to finish the project I started. I want to sell everything together as a package deal with local pick up only. The car is sold AS IS and the buyer assumes all responsibility. Ask any questions before bidding. Feel free to email me if you want to come look at it before bidding. I reserve the right to end the listing at any time if the vehicle sells separately. |

Porsche 911 GT3 RS facing delay over GT3 fire problems?
Mon, 24 Mar 2014Porsche has never been afraid to introduce variants of its cars. However, its even higher spec, next-generation 911 GT3 RS may be delayed from its planned launch this summer while the engines in the standard GT3s (pictured above) are replaced.
A delay isn't certain, but executives want to make sure the high-strung mill is no longer a problem before they press forward with another model using it. Germany's Auto Motor und Sport asked Porsche CEO Matthias Müller about pushing back the launch, and he responded that it was too early to say. The company's current focus is making sure the engines get fixed and working on internal measures to prevent this kind of flaw in the future.
When fires claimed two 911 GT3s in Europe, Porsche initially stopped the model's sales and asked owners to stop driving them. It finally diagnosed the blazes as being caused by a loose screw on a connecting rod, which then resulted in crankcase damage and an oil leak. The company is replacing the engines on all 785 affected cars. A source told Autoblog that under 200 customers were actually affected, and the other cars were either at port or dealer lots. Hopefully, the recall doesn't postpone the road-going GT3 RS too far because we want to see what Porsche has up its sleeve.
Porsche planning new 911 Speedster as 550 tribute
Tue, 12 Nov 2013Some look at the emergence of a new Porsche 911 and see a car. But to Porsche engineers, it might as well be a reset button. Because every time a new 911 comes out, it sets off a tidal wave of new variants to follow, including convertibles, turbos, targas, GT3s... the works.
The next down the pipeline, though, could be one of the most desirable. That, according to German publication Auto Bild, will be a new 911 Speedster. When it arrives early in 2015, the special roadster will reportedly be limited to just 550 examples in tribute to the original 550 Spyder.
It'll reportedly have hidden door handles, a chopped-down windshield and a fabric top to be used only in case of emergency, manually disappearing below a carbon-fiber cowling. All of which makes it sounds as much like a bigger version of the Boxster Spyder as a successor to the last 911 Speedster (pictured above), and that's no bad thing at all.
Father-son team grows close by building tuned Porsche
Mon, 21 Jul 2014We've seen several heartwarming videos of kids bonding over cars with their parents, whether racing together or giving them as gifts. The story of Leh Keen and his father McGrath, though, is somewhat different. Not many dads are looking for a vehicle quite this mental.
As Leh tells it, his dad saw a video online of one of the wild Porsches from Japanese tuner Rauh-Welt Begriff and decided that he needed one of the creations in his own garage. Since Leh knows something about cars himself as a driver for Alex Job Racing in the United SportsCar Championship, McGrath put his son in charge of managing the build from the company.
When the car made it to the US for completion from Rauh's famed builder Nakai, father and son bonded over the red, widebody 993-platform 911. The final product is certainly eye-catching. Scroll down to watch the video that features not only an engrossing father-son tale but also a seriously wicked, tuned Porsche from one of Japan's finest.
