Up for auction with NO RESERVE!!! is a true, rust free, California 1966 Porsche. Looks can be deceiving on this beautiful Porsche. Changes were made throughout the early 1980's and is not your average stock original Porsche. We have a poster board of this car in magazines and also a few pics of the car before it was completely stock to see it was a perfect unmolested rust free candidate. I understand that today someone would be hung for doing such a thing to such a nice original car, but you have to remember this was started in the early 1980's when you couldn't give these cars away. The concept was to improve and enhance the style and appearance and increase the power capability. It is most obvious in the engine compartment where a Chevy 350 V8 now resides as the power plant for this car. The engine runs well and sounds great. Parts for routine maintenance are easily available and economical. This makes most Porsche owners envious. What makes this so car so cool is you never have to smog it in any state!! That alone is worth tons!!  To do this properly and achieve a vehicle that looks and performs like a factory made product, hours and hours of time and experience are in this car and it shows. The end result is a very uniquely styled and preforming Porsche. The body has a 930 Carrera body kit which consists of turbo flares front and rear, a front bumper with air scoop, rear bumpers, whale tale, right and left lower side rails, right and left turn signal lamps, right and left mirrors, right and left tail lights, left side rear fog lamp and center Porsche insignia. Only the seats, some gauges, and the steering wheel have been changed on the interior and the rest is original to the car in amazing shape!! The seats are now Recaros. The fans, water pump and gauges are all electrical. The gas tank has been modified to accommodate the new radiator. The flow of the radiator is left to right and has dual 10's fans mounted on a triple row core radiator. The radiator has a hand-made sheet metal housing that was added to improve the appearance. The stock Porsche engine was replaced with a Chevrolet 350 V8 which fits perfectly. Everything else is stock Porsche. Porsche motor mounts, gas, throttle and adapter plate have been hand fabricated using the stock 350 V8 motor mounts. The difference in weight is only 10 pounds. Mechanical gauges are located on the upper right hand side of the engine bay. The distributor cap is a crab type for easy removal and replacement. The suspension is stock Porsche. The trans axle is also stock Porsche. The exhaust system is custom. The 350 V8 has headers flowing back through turbo mufflers. The fuchs wheels are polished aluminum wrapped in BF Goodrich 160/60/16's in the front and monster 280/70/15's in the back. All four corners are disk brakes. The transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and there is plenty of pressure on the clutch. The paint is in good condition for its age and shines up nicely. There are a few little nicks here and there from normal driving. The glass is in good condition with tint and no cracks. The doors close properly and the windows roll up and down as they should. The head lights work, the tail lights work, the signals work, the brake lights work, the fog lamps work and the high beams work, the gas gauge has seemed to quit working. This car is a blast to drive and is very unique compared to other early under-powered Porsches' out there. It is a sleeper, no one will have any idea there is a V8 in there until you step on the gas. The interior seats are now Recaros and are a fantastic upgrade to the originals. The back seats are original to the car and are perfect. The carpet is in great shape and clean. The cell phone from the 1980's is included with the car and a great conversation piece! This is your chance to get not only own a unique Porsche, but a CLASSIC Porsche at the same time! A Porsche that you could use everyday if you wanted to or weekend cruises! This car gets lot's of looks and complements everywhere it goes and most people have no idea it is actually a classic 1966 Porsche. Get the best of both worlds now! This is a NO RESERVE AUCTION! Good luck!

Porsche Cayman GT4 storms Switzerland with 385 hp [w/video]

Tue, Mar 3 2015

Much as we love the Porsche 911 in all its variants, there's definitely a case to be made for the smaller Cayman as the best-driving sports car in the company's lineup. We adore it in all forms, and most recently fell madly in love with the new Cayman GTS. But here at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche has unveiled a truly special, range-topping variant of its mid-engine coupe: the GT4. And after seeing it in person, we're pretty much head-over-heels in love. That's because the GT4 is the most hardcore variant of the Cayman yet, using a 385-horsepower version of Porsche's 3.8-liter flat-six, derived from the 911 Carrera S. It sends power to the rear wheels solely via a six-speed manual transmission with dynamic gearbox mounts, and we're told the hot new coupe will sprint to 60 miles per hour in just 4.2 seconds – a full half-second quicker than the 340-hp Cayman GTS. Building upon that, the GT4 uses a host of chassis components from the potent 911 GT3, and offers further upgrades like ceramic brakes and carbon fiber bucket seats. This should make for one seriously track-worthy machine, and Porsche already says that the GT4 will run the Nurburgring in a scant 7:20 – the same time as the 2011 911 GT3. It's all very awesome, this GT4. To say we're stoked would be a gross understatement. Look for it to hit Porsche dealers in July, starting at $84,600. This content is hosted by a third party. A New Member of Porsche's GT Family The benchmark in its class: the Porsche Cayman GT4 Atlanta, Feb. 3, 2015 - Porsche's GT family is proud to announce the addition of an exciting new member: the Cayman GT4. This is the first Porsche GT sports car based on the Cayman and features components of the 911 GT3. Clocking a lap time of 7 minutes and 40 seconds on the North Loop of the Nurburgring, the Cayman GT4 earns the same lap time as the 2011 911 GT3 and positions itself as the new benchmark atop its market segment. The Cayman GT4 clearly demonstrates Porsche's dedication and passion to continue to promote truly industry-leading two-door sports cars in the future – sports cars that are developed at the Motorsport department in Weissach. The engine, chassis, brakes, and aerodynamic design of the Cayman GT4 are configured for maximum driving dynamics while retaining the versatility and everyday utility that are typical of the two-seater Porsche coupe.

1950s car ads are timeless

Sat, Aug 8 2015

Usually around the Super Bowl a few great car commercials show up, but for the most part auto ads today pale in comparison to the '1950s and '60s. In an era with a truly viable magazine industry, automakers would take out gorgeous full-page spreads to get the word out about their wares. It was also a time when imports were just hitting the US, and there was a boom in sports cars. Car and Driver has gone for a dig into its advertising archives from when the book was known as Sports Cars Illustrated for a truly great viewing experience. You can imagine a young Don Draper mulling over the copy for these ads, but some of it is laughably quaint today. For example, there's a great image of a driver whipping an Austin-Healey 100 around a track. The italicized red text proudly proclaims, "From 0 to 60 MPH in 10.5 seconds." One of the beautiful parts about these advertisements is that you seldom see photos of the cars. Instead, there are often detailed drawings that slightly distort the vehicles' lines. With this approach, the Porsche 356 ends up looking far more curvaceous than in real life. Plus, the front end of the Chrysler 300 looks large enough to land a helicopter on. The whole thing is worth scrolling through. There are some fascinating glimpses into auto history like an ad for Abarth exhausts before the brand was just known for tuning Fiats. Simply add the discount at checkout. Whether you like it or not, there will come a day when most, if not all of us, will be driving electric cars. For some of us that day can't come soon enough, and in honor of Earth Day we've put together a list of our favorite car giveaways so you can save some green while being green.  Win a 2021 Porsche Taycan Turbo S and $20,000 - Enter Here If there’s one thing Porsche is good at, itÂ’s making fast, beautiful cars, and the Taycan Turbo S is no exception. Making 750 horsepower, 774 lb-ft of torque and a top speed of 161 miles per hour, punching the accelerator will surely throw you back in your seat. In fact, its 0-60 time of 2.6 seconds matches that of the quickest Porsche 911 ever made, the Turbo S. The difference between this Taycan Turbo S and that 911 Turbo S, of course, is that the only reason youÂ’ll ever need to stop off at a gas station is to fill up on snacks. That and the fact the Taycan doesn't actually have a turbo anywhere in the car. We wouldnÂ’t be reaching for a bag of FlaminÂ’ Hot Cheetos, though, because this incredibly comfortable leather interior is immaculate, and weÂ’d hope to keep it that way. Enter here for a chance to win this prize worth $220,000. Win a Himalaya Land Rover Defender 110 EV and $20,000 - Enter Here The Land Rover Defender is an icon: an intense, luxurious off-roader that turns heads and can crawl up nearly anything. The problem? For the past 20+ years it hasn't been available in the United States and it's never been what youÂ’d call environmentally friendly. But this Defender is different. ItÂ’s vintage, restored by Himalaya and itÂ’s all-electric. At 275 horsepower, you wonÂ’t be thrown back in your seat, but the 406 lb-ft of torque helps make this an incredibly capable rock crawler.
