A great car at a fair price.  The 1987-1989 911's are the last of the "true" 911 and my be the next 911's to appreciate in price while their owners appreciate the way they drive.  This is my 2nd 911, and will not be my last - a change in circumstances is forcing this sale.

I've owned this car for the last 4 years and have used it as my "daily driver" - that said, I worked from home and took it to the airport once in a while.  My kids have now outgrown the small back seats and I need to drive more often for my new job and I don't have resources for a 3rd car.  Sadly, my Porsche must go.

This 911 has been very well maintained with the assistance of a neighbor who is an MIT grad, retired surgeon and Sr. Porsche Car of America instructor who maintains his own 86 race car, an 87 Turbo a 356 with his lift and full set of mechanics tools and experience in his garage.  For work that exceeded our abilities, this 911 was exclusively serviced by Auto Associates, one of the top Porsche Garages in New England.  I have all the records from when I purchased the car, but nothing prior.  Carfax is clean.

There are just a couple of small issues with this car keeping it from perfect.

1) There is some oxidation on the front bumpers.  Typical for this car, and I have not addressed it because I was considering the backdate project.

2) I had a rust issue addressed - there were some rust spots in the bottom of the door wells.  These were professionally addressed by replacing the sheet metal from parts cars..it looks perfect.  You can tell some work was done because you can see a small seam inside the door sill.  There is no more rust on this car.

The paint is all original.  There are a couple of small nicks and scratches but less than should be expected in a car of this age.

I have upgraded to the turbo tie rods, the tires are Direzza Z1 star spec (very good condition) and I have a set of snow tires I'll include in the purchase.  I have manuals, and the tools.

Injectors were replaced May of 2012  and a leakdown was performed at that time:  1@4%, 2@6%, 3@6%, 4@8%, 5@6%, 6@6%

This is a great drivers car - ready to go to the track or to drive around town.

Please contact noahu <at> msn <dot> com for more information.  I would prefer a local sale and may terminate the auction at any time.

Jaguar F-Type coupe to cost more than convertible?

Tue, 30 Jul 2013

Jaguar may price the much-rumored F-Type Coupe above the F-Type Convertible, if a report from Australia's Drive is to be believed. What makes Jag think that such a pricing strategy would work? Porsche. Take a look at the German manufacturer's consumer site, and you'll notice that the Boxster is less expensive than the Cayman, despite being essentially the same car.
It's a fair point, and a price premium does a good job of emphasizing the sporting chops of the coupe over the open-air experience that normally entitles convertibles to higher MSRPs. It's unclear just how closely Jaguar will follow Porsche's example, though.
Both the Cayman and Cayman S boast an extra ten horsepower over a Boxster or Boxster S, and while this bump in grunt is negligible in every situation but an argument over which is "best," it isn't something to be ignored in the F-Type, particularly as cranking more power out of its supercharged engines should be a rather simple matter.

Car Club USA: Porsche Club of America Escape to Rushmore

Wed, Dec 16 2015

The Porsche Club of America, whose motto is "it's not just the cars, it's the people," plans its annual Escape in a different city every year. This year's was particularly epic, as Porsche fans headed to the Black Hills of South Dakota for their gathering. The scenery and the history are part of the attraction, but the winding roads are the real headliner. "This road right here is the reason why we chose the Black Hills of South Dakota to do the 2015 Escape," said Ron Johnson of the Nord Stern Porsche Club as he navigated the mountain range. "These Porsches really love these twisty, curvy roads." That statement neatly sums up why the sports cars have resonated so deeply with their owners and enthusiasts for so long. In addition to the guided tours and drives around the winding terrain, the club hosts a car show. This year marks the club's 60th in the United States, and the Escape drew a wide range of Porsches of all vintages. Lloyd and Donna Nelson from Valley City, ND, arrived in their 1955 Porsche Speedster, which they purchased alongside a 1951 coupe in 1964 for a grand total of $750. Needless to say, it was a good investment – although they didn't know it at the time. "We had two children, one on the way, we were both working and I really didn't see the sense in two old cars," explained Donna. "I said, 'one of them has to go,'" to which Lloyd responded, "which one of the kids?" They sold the coupe long ago, but the speedster is still gorgeous and gets more than its fair share of stares and use. Will they win best of show? "This is what us as enthusiasts dream of," Johnson said. Watch the latest episode of Car Club USA to see how it turns out and for a snapshot of life at the Escape. Each Car Club USA episode features a different car club or event from across the US, where passionate owner communities gather to share automotive experiences and embark on incredible adventures. Chris Harris condemns demonization of Porsche Carrera GT in wake of Walker death

Fri, 06 Dec 2013

When something bad happens, it's easy to resort to scapegoating. At least for some of us, that seems to be exactly what has happened following the tragic death of actor Paul Walker and racer Roger Rodas, who were killed on November 30 in a Porsche Carrera GT. Even though officials have not yet determined the cause of the crash, that isn't stopping many theories from being put for - theories that include blaming the Porsche supercar. Rather predictably, not only is the CGT's difficult nature getting examined, but indeed, the nature of all high-performance cars is being put under the public's microscope, with some wondering what the need for all the power is.
A Google search of "Porsche Carrera GT" will find no shortage of articles about the razor-sharp handling and outright speed of the CGT. Pistonheads' Chris Harris has a different, insightful take on both the Carrera GT and the nature of all fast cars. He reflects on the matter, ironically, en route to drive the successor to the car that killed Walker and Rodas, the 900-horsepower 918 Spyder hybrid supercar.
We think it's well worth a read, as it makes a number of good points about modern high-performance automobiles and the way they're used. Click over and take a look.
